As we all know, nothing on You Tube is as easy as it looks. It took me about 8 hours to make one. The plan is to make four for gifts; I expect the others to take about 2 hours each. Thanks for the video!
Josh (and anyone doing this type of project with a drill press) - wooden hand screw clamps make it much easier and safer to control small parts. I cut notches in the jaws to grab round parts.
Normally I skip to the end of videos like this to see what is being made but I found this one interesting enough to watch all the way through. Good video.
😲 was my face when this was completed. Lol. Awesome creativity 👏. Great explanation on the how with the build process. Thanks for the simple but unique & thoughtful gift idea with 🎄 right around the corner, AGAIN 🤦♂️. (STILL paying for the last few) lol.
I have to admit, I couldn't figure out what you were making. Pretty clever. Nicely done. I doubt I'll ever go to this much work to give away money but it really is a next level way to do so.
This was very cool. I couldn’t tell what it was from the thumbnail. I watched out of curiosity, but I wonder if a more descriptive title or description might attract more views since it is a really interesting project.
Another cool project! ..u should make a diy drill press vise or something to hold stuff when using drill press besides ur hand ..had an accident 6 yrs ago and wasn't pretty
Love this-very clever. I’m a grandmother and don’t have any woodworking tools. Instead, I’m going to send this video to Santa’s workshop and ask if his elves can make them for me.
I wonder if there's a way to modify it so that it doesn't come out if you get part of it right and only when you have the full sequence right like a cryptex would.
There is a way, it's just harder to do. I made a video a while ago making a full size cryptex that requires the full sequence to open. This is just a more diy friendly version.
I wouldn’t use a spade bit into end-grain on the drill press especially without a vice. This would probably be best done on a lathe but would require the lathe and about $400 in accessories.
Hi, Josh, cool project. So it's not really a lock, it's a container? Because we can see the grain and line it up. Still cool. Just expected a lock and wondering if you have any ideas to turn it into one? Also, a version to store a thumb drive and keep it hidden, please?
You could maybe paint the dials to hide the grain and add numbers insted. I have another video making a bigger, more secure version of this project if it helps th-cam.com/video/nQL4Qat11Tg/w-d-xo.html It is harder to make tho
OK stupid question. I don't have a piece of round wood that thick. For me to buy it it would cost quite a boy. You have to have a around inside. I was wondering if I could do the outside square instead. I have some beautiful Especially designed for curving wood that a very kind man gave me years ago. think that would be OK right? Also I've seen videos where they attach the drill to like a makeshift drill press if you know of any videos like that could you tell me maybe Which video is the safest. That's the only thing I'm worried about it's safety
Not a stupid question, I think square stock would work too and could look pretty cool. As for safety I am not very good with safety myself so I can't give good advise on that. I would say try and use a real drill press and a drill vise to hold the work piece.
@@JoshWrightWoodworking 1st, thank you for replying. Im actually a woman and have to fend for myself. Example, the short story is my brother-in-law took the drill press i bought for my dad, RIP and keeps saying he will give it back, but its been 4 YEARS!!!! It's been impossible to drill a straight hole. Not to mention ridiculously dangerous. I've seen videos on how to Jerry-rigg a drill but also seems unsafe. It sucks.
If your gonna do this, don't be like me, use a vise clamp
Much more thoughtful and personalized than giving cash in a money holder card. A puzzle to make them work for the gift and a keepsake! Nice!

Wow, well thank you for the more realistic time estimate and good luck on the other 3 😁
@@JoshWrightWoodworking This was my first attempt to make a locking wood puzzle. Great way to spend some shop time. Thanks again.
0:53-1:20 is the most satisfying thing i've ever seen!
That is a great. I will try these for my kids. Might keep them quiet for an hour before we open presents at Christmas.

🔴I'm just blown away by your creativity. I also do carving myself, a very fascinating business. Thank you you are a super master 🤙
A cryptex that uses wood grain instead of letters. Neat!
Ahhhh yes!!! The old hammer saw!!!
Did anyone else think these were going to be Snowmen ornaments?? Ha! fooled me. This is a pretty darn imaginative and cool project.
Well done, Josh.
Now thats way better than a gift card!
Normally I skip to the end of videos like this to see what is being made but I found this one interesting enough to watch all the way through. Good video.
You are a wizard. I love this little project.
Superstar in the making (I may have said this before lol)
You sir are a genius! I don't get impressed often, but you have an amazing talent with ideas and execution. God bless you.
This was pretty cool. Might try to make these for my nephews.

Great videos and cool idea. Also i subscribed, because you DIDN’T ask me to unlike every other video I’ve ever seen on TH-cam.
Super cool Josh!
I wasn't too sure where you were going with this, but I'm so glad I watched to the end. Well done! I'm definitely
going to have to give this a go!
What an imaginative project. Your skill is amazing.
Very clever
I love your creativity.
Other than the obvious, I can't wait to get back to the shop to make some centering jigs for my most-used forstner bits. GREAT gift idea!
That is a fabulous idea - I love it1!
That is a neat idea, thanks for sharing.

Definitely earns a follow
That was actually a pretty cool little project mate!! Well done
That is a very cool idea. Nice job and it looks fun to make. Thank you for sharing.
Very cool 😎
Very cool keep up the creative and great work 👍
That is neat.
That is awesome and beautiful at the same time lol
Great idea 👍
Clever idea. Thanks.

I agree. The title is lacking, the mystery of the locking wood is not.
Great video
,a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you……
Great job!
This is a great idea
Great idea! I love seeing people actually doing things and creating! Thanks for the share!
Excellent !!!! 👍
Pretty cool idea!! 👍🏻

Hey Josh, cool video. That tip around one minute in about making a template to mark the centre of a dowel is a keeper - thanks!
Schöne Idee. Klasse 👍 😊
Diy da vinchi cryptex puzzle box! Should make a video making a more elaborate version like tye one i mentioned
Really neat bud!
Very impressive.

Excellent project. What kind of saw are you using?
Thanks, it's a Vaughan 10" pull saw
Have you ever made a frame for a window? I still like those light holder things👍.

Should title this wood cryptek...
thats cool
Josh , would a bench top drill press be sufficient enough in woodworking over the floor model ?
It took me a couple tries (kept grabbing the wrong size bit) but I got one to work. Super gratifying project
That's awesome!!
Hey i have never seen glue like that, what is it called ? And where can I buy it?
I guess it is just CA glue and accellerator.
How do you come up with this stuff? You are awesome!
Awesome! Now send it to The Lock Picking Lawyer youtube channel to pick open :)
💖💖🙏🙏👍👍
So match the grain to get the money
What size for the drill bits?
PAY ATTENTION
What he didn't tell you is the dowel can NOT be a snug fit it you will tear them apart getting them out..

I know you don't care. I know nobody cares but I'm gonna go for it now.I'll let you know how it goes🤣🤣
Oops, oops 😬 ok third times a charm 🤞

I’d have to paint it. The kids these days would match those grain patterns way too easily.
that is a pull saw. just pull to cut you will cut easier
I have tried this about 12 times and never once got it right... :(
Oh…..now I see what you’re making…. 7:37
👍✌🖖🥃
Not getting those 9 min back.
This is cool as fuck im gona make s jumbo one out of a log
