a lot of 1.8 pvpers who say they are moving to 1.20 overestimate how much pvp content there is to make over there >w<
but after they have made that jump it's easier for them to go to broader modern mc content.
I wouldn't be surprised if he gets millions of subscribers soon lol - but if he sticks to just 1.20 pvp specifically there's a chance he fell off :/

I really hope Hypixel does this to bedwars and all the other games. A server called Cube craft has it's own version "Egg wars" which is in 1.20.

I do agree that new content is really important for growth - I myself remember watching all the new hypixel videos as a kid getting into the game for the first time.
I know the idea of 1.20 bedwars has been thrown around a lot but I agree that a revamped system as you suggested would be a really great way to do it rather than just a 1.20 port.
also for the past 2 weeks I've been working on a hoplite bedwars concept with tons of unique ideas, really glad to see someone else who has this idea too

i have idea too! we should implement a ranked system into bedwars, so basically make ranked bedwars into the game rather than a discord server, so players can play against people their skill level and less experienced players wont have to play against sweats

That beginner trying to play bedwars is so true, when i start playing bedwars thats the exact situation i was put in but i kept pushing and watched a ton of youtube on bedwars and pvp some of which where urs and know i love bedwars. I really do wish that new players could have an easy entrance. idk just some mumble jumble

Honestly I don't know how I feel about custom items a lot of the charm that Hypixel give off is there is no 3d models and wired color full huds, I personally really like the vanilla look and feel Hypixel give off that a lot of newer server are leaving behind which is becoming a turn off for me. I also think 1.20 has enough new items that you could make a full gamemode around these new items without having to add any custom ones like the trident will have some cool play because if you threw it, at an opponent the opponent could through it back. My biggest concern would be making sure the combat is still face paced enough because the newer combat can often times be a little slow but I'm sure with the right care and love this could be done
Yeah there is definetly enough new items that they wouldn't need to add weird custom models. The vanilla feel is definitely more friendly to most players

These points are very good! I have another idea. The idea is that Hypixel adds a cap between good and bad players when queuing games, for instance, if a new player starts out, Hypixel can queue them up with a player who is slightly better as them (so they still learn, but don't get destroyed) and also queue them up with players that performs similar (to the player queuing), so it adds fair competition. And as the player gets better at the game, the new players they get queued with, will become more competitive. Lastly, if the player keeps on beating their opponents, then they can get queued with opponents that start to increasingly have a larger skill gap, slowly becoming harder and harder for the player to beat, but if the player starts to struggle against these hard opponents, the skill gap starts to go down and the player will have easier opponents. This provides comfort and the feeling of enjoyment when playing bedwars, so at the same time, the player can improve, but also not keep getting destroyed by literal Dewiers feeling de-motivated lol

Great video, fantastic that you're adressing the issue.
I do not believe that this fixes the issue however. For one, making a seperate bedwars version like this would divide the community into the two modes. I also think the new mode as described would be so different that it's basically a whole new game - in which case why not actually make a new game? I also don't think the issue of 1.20+ pvp being different from 1.8.9 is that big of a deal. It wasn't a problem during covid, even though 1.8.9 had been "outdated" for like 4-5 years at that point.
I have another suggestion that I wrote on the forums a while ago that I think could work. One problem bedwars has is that it gets stale (although personally I'm fine playing it as is). This leads to players dropping it after playing for a while when they've learnt the tactics and skills required. To combat this, I'm suggesting adding seasons to bedwars. I've not played fortnite, but I'm envisioning something like that - each season mess with some mechanics in some ways, and each season lasts maybe 1-2 months. I don't mean big changes necessarily, but some things that could be changed are: items, item prices, dia upgrades, dia upgrade prices, game time, event times, gen speeds (base, dias, and ems). I also suggest removing rotational items as it's own thing and integrating them into the seasons, but making sure the items are actually balanced and not game breaking stuff like machine gun bows.
One season could for example be tool oriented, where tnt's are more expensive and tools are cheaper, and another one it could be flipped. Some seasons could have ems spawn really quickly, so going mid is a much bigger advantage. Making gens really slow could be another one, which would make forge upgrades more viable. The reason I believe this would work is that it would not mess with the core mechanics, but it would force different strategies to be more viable depending on season. TNT rushing would always be viable, but if you don't adapt to blocking in and using tools, you would be at a disadvantage during tool-oriented seasons.
As for beginner's experience, I also have a way of somewhat helping with that. I don't think the reason they're being destroyed is that they're used to a different kind of pvp, I think the main reason is that they're bad (naturally). That involves pvp of course, but casual bedwars is arguable more to do with game sense and not pvp in itself. The problem is that noobs are put up against pros, so it's very hard for new players to do anything in those games. My suggestion for this is to add a form of match making. I don't want a full on ranked style match making, but something that prevents the best to be put up against the worst. One way of doing this is to have for example 10 "skill levels". By playing well (winning, getting finals and beds) you get to a higher level, and by playing bad (losing, maybe final dying and losing bed) you can lose points. My idea is to just make sure each queue only has a "skill width" of maybe 6 or 7. So most players get to play against most other players, but someone with skill level 1 would never play anyone of skill level 10.
Another big problem that bedwars has is the cheating problem. It's not worth trying to go for a win streak even if you're good, because it will guaranteed be sniped. And even if you're able to dodge most snipers, that's still a really bad mechanics. Why should "good stats" be indicative of how good you are at doding and not how good you are at the game?
Imo, bedwars needs to fix some things to make retention of players higher. I believe the slumber hotel was an ok update, but overall useless since all it realisticly did was make a temporary bump in the amount of players - like a new toy, but when you're done with it there's no point of keeping it. If they had done something to keep the player retention first however, I think the slumber hotel would have been much more effective.
Ideas:
Add an ice ball (variant of fireball) which could freeze a player when it hits them to slow them down,
Add a shop to buy enchantments like fire aspect or projectile protection,
Add a grappling hook which u can use once to help clutch,
Add a rope or smth to hook onto players and pull them into void or towards u (like fishing rod but stronger),
Add the mace (idk I’m out of ideas 😂)

This is a really good video. I personally think hypixel should add 1.20 bedwars. They could also make it so you can play nether and the end maps with some of those mobs.

I have an idea how to improve Bedwars for new players: If you're new and play Bedwars for the first time and you're always rushed because the game is too fast for you and you're a beginner, you'll quickly lose interest. If you wait longer for a game to start than the game time. Sometimes I only have 3 - 5 minutes of playing time per game and that's no fun, even though you win. You could add a new temporary mode (doubles and 4s) where you have a timer so that you can only destroy the beds after about 5 or 10 minutes, so everyone has more playing time and you can build up a good defense and base, like back then.
It would be really nice so that the game mode doesn't die out.
Honestly I think what you are proposing is a very good idea, although it would probably mean less people on bedwars 1.8. I also think another thing that should be added to bedwars is a good and easy accessible tutorial, for rhe new 1.20+ players. Also great video, I really like your content !

Dario, I think there are two possibilities in this matter. The actual reason I think Bedwars is dying is because of better server, like Minemen club, and those kind of servers. Another possibility is that Bedwars comes back, but it has to be for a concrete reason, such as another pandemic, or such. Honestly, I think that the content creators like you could make a huge change. If you stay active in Hypixel Bedwars, people would go to it to see you there. Hypixel Tournaments and events could also help.
This is a very good idea although reviving bedwars has been tried many times and I think this might work but might take a while. I also know a lot of people who have quit becuase of the hypixel lag problem. Someone with low ping (like 10-45) and decent skill wins by default even if u have 50-60 ping. I hope this idea works and this video also was a very good analysis.

YES very good idea, I think 1.20 should be a separate gamemode with it's own NPC in the same bedwars lobby as 1.8.9 But it could have its own stats and leaderboard in a different place of the lobby, perhaps the opposite side of where the current leaderbored is?
I'm the owner of a small server and I've tried something like this back in the server's early days. However most people didn't like it. Back then I thought it was because the cooldown just doesn't allow for bedwars style combat. So eventually I just removed the gamemode and focussed on other things like 1.20 skywars. This video is making me seriously consider giving bedwars another try. Your ideas sound really cool.
I think this is spot on, its not so much that 1.20 bedwars wouldnt work, its that 1.8 style bedwars wouldnt work with 1.20 pvp. For it to work it would need to be re imagined and tested but its surely possible
@@TrainerDario Yeah back when I tried this I still had very limited understanding of 1.20 pvp. Another problem was and still is that I've never really played bedwars actively, I was always more of a skywars guy. The people that played the gamemode were also mostly 1.20 duels players and only few bedwars players that could tell me how to make bedwars fun and interesting. But if people are getting bored of 1.8 bedwars this will soon change.
