    I have to say, your approach to sharing musical knowledge is second to none. What caught my attention and instantly gave me some "ah ha" moments is your approach to sharing your personal perception of music theory. Its just very enjoyable and refreshing.

    I've been practicing the bass unplugged in the corner of my house for years, in order not to disturb the family. Your tone makes me want to plug in...

      same here, it improves your tone and range of dynamic!!! I've learned to also pick really hard and be clean that way. But watch you damping :-)

      Get the Vox plug in. It’s like 30 bucks and you can play onto headphone with no amp

    There are tons of good teachers on TH-cam, covering virtually every bit of musical information one can imagine.
    Having said that, your channel is probably my favorite - top 5 at least - and I find it impressing how clear and useful your lessons are.
    I think it has something to do with the fact that, even when talking about a specific subject - technique, harmony, melody, soloing etc. - all the other topics are also there. Just like playing in real life, which always involves everything (posture, tone, proper technique, note choices etc) at the same time.
    Thank you for putting your time and effort to produce such great content

      Thanks for the kind words and support man! That's honestly one of the things I try to focus on with my lessons. Everything gets intertwined ultimately and there's no need to isolate one from the other, which is precisely I'm not a big advocate of modes for example. Anyway, thanks again :) Cheers and see you in the shed ;)

    This is something I always struggled to do on my own. Watching you break it down makes it pretty obvious. Thanks.

    Awesome stuff, clear concept and easy to understand but we can really build a lot on that. After getting comfortable with these exercises on a tune I was thinking about trying other triads over chords (ex. over Cmaj7 : Emin, Gmaj, Amin triads etc. / over C7: Edim, Gdim, Gmin, Gbmaj triads and so on) to get out of always thinking 'root and then up' and to try various extensions and possible substitutions while keeping triad structures. Thoughts on that? I'm pretty sure you've already shed this stuff ;) thanks for the lessons man!

    I've only been playing a little more than 2 years, and I have been working on this exercise. I'm doing well, but I get stuck on the A-7b5. Can you help?

    Hi Antony, I like the bass and I like the way you do the arpeggios, and my concern is to be at your level, so my request is that you start doing a little slowly to allow us

    Anthony so I started applying your advice about creating my own exercises using triads on a standard. The only thing is is that is seems more and more like walking bass lines rather than a melodic structure. Am I doing something wrong?

    • @AnthonyMuthurajah
      @AnthonyMuthurajah  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arnaldo Menchaca well, what I would recommend is for you to stick to one standard and play pure triads in different rhythm values. Quarter notes naturally is a walking bassline so you can’t avoid that “sound”. But once you feel comfortable with a standard in one key, move it across all 12 keys and THEN do 7th chords/arpeggios. Same process and THEN add scale tones. This will help with structuring your ideas with good control. Sit down with a new standard and it won’t require that much work. Do it more and More till it becomes a reflex in your body. Hope that clears up any confusion.

      Thanks Richard. Unfortunately I'm completely against tabs and don't write them out for any reason whatsoever. You can slow down the video and watch my fingers. Isn't that better than numbers on a sheet of music? Cheers
