When people think New York they think of NYC but the state is full of beautiful places just like Lake Placid. I live in the Finger Lakes region and my family loves it here.
We have had the great fortune of coming to Lake Placid twice a year to the condo on Lake Placid. A breathing setting that turns one’s life into serenity. A place of varying attractions and activities shared with delightful people. A friendly town with a variety of stores and exceptional store staff and owners. I suppose I am saying it is a small town proving activities, shopping, restaurants b not to mention wonder, welcoming people. We love our visits and been getting to the condo for over 15 years! Next visit January 28th!!!!
We get up there about once a year. Just got back from renting a beautiful house in Wilmington and having a great time with extended family at the Flaming Leaf Festival. Can't wait to plan our next trip back 🍁🍂🍃
I've been vacationing in the Tri-Lakes area and on Lake Placid for 30 years and owned a lakefront cottage for a number of those years. The truth is LP used to be a great place, it was my favorite place to be in fact. But honestly, over the last decade or so it has changed, and not in a good way. Yes, Lake Placid Lake and the Adirondack High Peaks are still awe inspiring but there is a snobby elitist nouveau riche element that has over taken this small Adirondack hamlet and though they may possess wealth, their overall lack of class has kind of killed the great Adirondack and Olympic spirit that once existed here. Yes, there has always been a wealthy gentry in LP, but they had standards and grace. I'd probably be considered wealthy by most people, so this is no "eat the rich" rant. But modesty and class have apparently gone out of style in LP. It's probably still okay for a vacation to enjoy the mountains and the Lake, but avoid the town unless you like hanging out with douchey tourists and and uptight social climbers. If you've been to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard or East Hampton lately, you'll understand what I'm talking about. It pains me very much to post these observations because I still love the town and the Adirondacks.
@digdablooz I can fully understand what you're talking about. Beautiful areas (and especially famously beautiful areas) seem to develop that elitist, snobby way about it. Kennebunkport, Maine is becoming that way, largely due to President G H W Bush having the family compound there. There is something to be said for capturing beauty and innocence, because when the innocence is lost, it is often when the "beautiful people" invade and the place becomes a place for people to be seen, then that's when you know you've hit a point of no return, unfortunately.
I was there this past October and I absolutely love it there. I’m looking to move there but the housing is so expensive. What I find in my price range is a major fixer upper or it’s already pending. I can’t even find something to rent. Even Saranac Lake is expensive.
Lake placid is loaded with Douchey tourists and left wingers. But there are also a ton of nice locals there. I just like hiking and only go to lake placid for the stores/food/hotels.
Hi Michael. We are so happy to hear you are looking to move to the Adirondacks. Here is a great resource for finding current job postings: www.workadk.com/. If you need any further assistance please contact us at info@lakeplacid.com and we can help make the right connections.
Lake Placid is a lovely town in a spectacular natural setting....but i read somewhere that the crime rate is 88% higher than the entire state of New York....if that's true it's scary!!!!
That must be complete bs. There aren't many places I feel safer in NY state than in the Adirondacks. You probably read some activist who was butthurt when actual crime stats are presented that go against the left wing narrative. They want soo bad for rural NY to be this white supremacist epicenter. It's just not true and they can't cope with the fact it's not white rural communities destroying society.

I’d give anything to move myself and my family up there!
I love Lake Placid. I use to live in Saranac Lake. If I was to move back there it’d be to Lake Placid

My girlfriend and I are thinking about buying a house/moving to the Adirondacks. Is it hard to get a job there? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
