Wow. I was stressing so hard about figuring this stuff out. Funny how a few sharpies and a good guy can clarify these things! Thanks Kennis!
Honestly, you're the first person I've seen that explains so clear.
This is incredible. I came looking at these PM50s boxes as an a live in-ear solution for a seven piece band with a 4-aux out board. Please continue to make perfectly personal and pertinent videos solely for my life and experiences. Thank you!
One other thing to note is that the PM50s and the PM351 use 9 to 17 volts DC, but the PS16 uses 12 volts AC, and the correct way to hook the PS16 is to first make all the connections and connect the AC adapter last or you could fry the sound source when connecting the stereo cables to power your PM50s and PM351. When breaking down you have to unplug the power to the PS16 first and then the rest of the cables, just to be safe.
I looked into the PS16 and It is an excellent product 4-Sure, however I discovered that you need a box ($299 Each) for each musician and then you may also need a P16D, P16i, and if going wireless you will also need additional Receivers & Transmitters. Ouch! Great for Drummers because you can run all of the individual drums & cymbals, etc., into the 16 channels to get the best mix yet but it is going to be expensive, even if just going wired. I wish I could afford it because i would get this if I could.
Brother please help us in doing more stuff like this. We definitely support you by liking them and sharing them to the relevant groups.
You are awesome. Your videos are highly recommended for mid range churches especially in india we need people like you in our churches 😉 I am so greatful to have a friend like you bro.
Thanks for clarifying this stuff out! Was totally under water about how to set this up , but now im understanding
Thanks Kennis! Great video once again, and thanks for the shout out. Keep the videos coming, looking forward to what you have next.
Many Thanks for taking the time to explain this process. It really helped me to set my system and to get everything I needed to be successful. Again Many Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! I've been looking for an affordable IEM system for my church for a while now. being the worship leader/sound guy is tough when you have to run back and forth to adjust the monitor mix because someone can't hear them self. now everyone can adjust their own mix, and I can get rid of those awful wedges. I think I finally found the solution! Thank you!
Cristian Martinez Amen to that brother. Cheers!👍
Got it! Good thing I re-watched the video. I knew you referenced the stereo/mono feature. It was a little tricky getting that clip out. Not much room there. But it worked like a charm. Thank you. And my hair thanks you too!
About time someone took to time to draw this out. Thanks!
This video was so helpful, thank you! Exactly what I was looking for.
Excellent video! Thank you.
Great Video!
One of the Best inexpensive but effective in-ears solution, well explained in Laymen's terms. I'm trying out a bunch of different wired products like ART (MyMonitor Personal Monitor Mixer, Behringer, Rolls PM50S, PM351, PM55P, PreSonus HP2, POSSE Audio and more. I personally prefer the POSSEE Audio the most because it has the most features like built-in ambient mics, Stereo, Instrument Condenser microphone, Line of sight chromatic tuner, Belt Box, Record your performances, Peak Limiter, Built-in direct box (DI), Phantom Power for Condenser mics, Play your own break music with mp3 player, AC adapter or battery, made in USA and more. All of these product and many others out there do work. Some better than others but they all work. I prefer wireless, however that solution is financially out of reach for many folks and thank goodness that there are more affordable solution like some mention here and in this video. Drummers, Check out a Butt Kicker that attaches to your drum throne. Keep On Jamin!
Kennis - your videos are great. I want to get one of these PM systems, but our board only has 1 Aux output. We currently run 2 powered stage monitors on this Aux output. Would I be able to just add this to the output of one of the monitors essentially just creating a 3rd monitor? Or do these systems need to be plugged into an Aux out?
I found your IEM videos and thought they were very interesting - thanks for taking the time and effort to put them out. I've got a small question about sending your Aux out signals over a 50-100ft snake as you describe. If the signals are from a 1/4 inch un-balanced jack you may have noise / distortion problems sending those over a snake to the stage. Ideally you want balanced signals from XLR outputs and most analogue desks don't provide this. If it works in your set up - great. If not, you may need to use a DI box to take the unbalanced Aux outputs using jack-jack patch lead and provide balanced signals (also provide the signals on XLR to match your snake). Behringer do a 2 channel stand alone unit and rack mounting 4 and 8 channel devices with 8 channel price being around $150. Behringer isn't the best build quality in the world, but I've used the 8 channel unit for a fixed installation and on the road mounted in a rack case for over 10 years - and they're still going strong - and we're talking about budget solutions here. Hope this helps if noise is a problem.
Awesomeee, save my life. thanks kennis, really appreciate what you're doing
Hello, Kennis. Very good video. I have one little doubt, I was hoping maybe you could assist me.
So the PM351 accepts to be powered through a TRS cable, to be plugged into the main mix 1/4 inch jack. This means that this jack expects sleeve = Ground, ring = 12v and tip = signal.
however, should I wish to receive from my board a stereo signal, is this feasible? despite the fact that I will have to use a external power supply, does the PM351 understand a stereo signal into the main mix input, keeping in mind the ring will no longer be 12v?
Last but not least, suppose I only have a mono cable for this main mix input. there will be no more a dedicated contct for the ring, as it will be short circuited to the sleeve (which is ground). once I connect the power supply to the PM351, is there any chance that the board or the device can be damaged?
sorry for taking your time. thank you very much!
Thanks for this upload! Helped a lot.
Awesome video , just wish there was unit like the 351 that has pan features ?
Well we purchased some of these for worship. Question: what does it take to run a stereo mix into these? I mean if we pan things in our monitor mixes do we just use TRS leads into the mix in on the rolls Or would we need like some scifi stereo snake?
Thank you for your great ideas, keep it up!!
So I I'm a electric guitar player and a singer always at thesame time , I got taken out the church mixer and I now play straight out my my pedal boar and speaker, can u pls help me by guiding me on how to have IEM in ears monitors seat up with this 351 unit what tells will i deed to still enjoy stereo sound , keep in mind that I cant go back to the church mixer , what ever i do it will need to be for me only if that's the way to put it
Thank again keep up the good work
And God Bless You !!!!!!!!
I use the M6 Pros as well, such great IEMs for the price
Awesome vid man. Thank you very much.
Hi, does the Rolls PM50S PASS THRU phantom from the board or usb audio interface to the mic?
Is there any type of limiter needed for ear protection??
Man! You make some pretty cool videos. Subscribed!
Thank you for your video. Still trying to work this out - If you are playing guitar with a pedal effects board, what order should you use with the 351? Our band usually has the amps miked and sound returning via stage wedges (plus the amps) but I am exploring the world of IEM's and this seems a nice solution. I am confused however as to how I would incorporate my pedals into the system, as I run a wet/dry situation using two amps so I have two outputs from my pedal board taking different pedals to either amp. The amps are then miked as discussed above. How would you recommend setting this up using the PSM 351?
Thanks in advance
thanks for the video!
i have a question, with the aux sends do they send a stereo signal to the rolls? i have tried panning a click for all musicians on one ear but no matter what it pans to both ears
Hey man great video! One quick question instead of using a rolls pm50, could i use instead a behringer powerplay p1? And plug that into the ps 16? Or does it have to strictly be a pm50? I appreciate it man!
Hey awesome video! Really helpfull! Thanks a lot men!
So I play alto sax and have a shure beta98h/c wireless mic...How would I set this up if I also wanted to include a reverb pedal?
At 21:40 in the video you say it's the rolls boxes has to go back in the snake to send inputs to the board. But where is the outputs on the rolls boxes for that? Or am I just missing something?
Hey man, this was so helpful! Quick question though- Im singing and playing acoustic guitar through a fishman DI/EQ. The DI is XLR out. How do I run the xlr from the acoustic DI through the PM351? Should I just use an adapter to convert the XLR to 1/4 so I can run it though the inst in?
Noob question here. So, we started a band and I'm playing the guitar through pedal fx board connected to a dedicated guitar amp. The most common set up I've seen in amateur live bands is that they mic up their amps, mic through the mixer, then connect the aux out 1 of the mixer to a headphone amp then to the IEM(based on how i understood it, might be wrong), and aux out 2,3,4... to PAs in case amps arent strong enough. Is there a better way to set it up, like maybe without mic-ing the amp? Is the setup I described right? Havent tried the setup yet but Im considering IEMs just to hear and maybe equalize volume outputs of each amp.
We are using an older Peavey board with 2 monitor outs. We have 3 singers, and 4 musicians. How do I get full monitor mix back to IEM?
If a PA only has 1 monitor mix and only one output of this mix can I daisy chain this rolls unit from the monitor wedge OUT? so I would be plugging the rolls MONITOR IN from the drummers wedge OUT
Hey bro thanks for the video. Just a question.. if we have a band director or click could we run them in all the in ear also?
God bless you brother kennis!! Your video has inspired me to put “IEM” for my worship group also!! There’s something I Wanted to ask! if I want to mic up a drum set do I have to get the rolls pm351? NEED HELP. 😱😓😥
All of the mics on the drum connect directly to your snake like normal
You are using the rolls pm50 as the “‘monitor” to hear everything
I am a harmonica player/vocalist. I'm always having trouble hearing my harp trough the monitors and dealing with feedback. Would this help? i'm going straight into board or through my amp. Also have effect pedals.
The rolls are great, I am using this set up at my church. I do have a frustrating issue with some of them only outputting the mix out of 1 side... unless I pull out the headphone ext slightly to get the stereo image. I have tried a slew of different extension cables to no avail. its weird and I can't find anything to help me out with the issue. Do you have any thoughts or ideas for me? Thanks!
@@kennisrussell thanks for your reply. The headphones do not have a microphone.
That answers lots of questions though ... thank you! Just to clear, on pm351, does the instrument volume affects the main stage volume or just on my end? Thanks!
Thank you Kennis! it is very well described~! BTW, I'm bit confused about when to use Stereo 1/4 jack, or rather use can Mono all the time??
WILL KANG I am stuck here as well at the moment. Is even this a legit doubt? Is using stereo 1/4 cables better and will it give stereo monitoring over headphones from the PMs?
sorry noob question here.....so you connect the Mic to the ps351 or 50 then to the ps16.......since its an xlr I need to convert it to a..........that pointy thing like the earphone aux? right?
this unit is great but the only problem i find is that if i put my guitar on instrument in, and my mic on mic input i have independent controls of those two thing but it will comeback to my ears on the general mix line input, so there is no way to just monitor my sound away from my guitar coming back into my ears the other way around, that becomes a problem when you play with a band and everyone is sharing the same monitor mix. so if you have your own aux out no problem there but if you sharing the same over all mix it will comeback and you will hear it double.
Real useful, thx a lot!
Hello Keniss
So yesterday I installed the rolls pm351 for me at church, I ran the monitor mix, the electric guitar and the mic and let me tell you that it felt very awkward I kinda felt a little disoriented while singing and playing. So a the end I could never t sing at all I just could not perceive my voice the right way so it was a horrible first experience.
It was all mono the mon mix the mic and the guitar. And the mica and guitar signal not treated so I didn't like the sound if I just listened to the mon mix it was fine but the more me. yuck
I know it's the first time and I'm not used to the new way of listening and all.
Keniss will you please give me some advice as to how to move forward with the rolls system? For this is the trial run in order to try and get the worship team into in ears.
Nor the church or the team has the budget to go next level up like behringer p16 system witch can give you a stereo sound image and eq.
What's you're experience with this issue? What can you tell me?
how diferent floor to in ear mix?
can you elaborate in this please?
IEMs are always both ears in or not at all. You'll do a lot of damage to your hearing with only having 1 ear peace in. When you have only one bud in the perception of volume is halved and thus you'll turn the volume up to over compensate - which will quite quickly damage your hearing. Take it from some one with hearing damage - do yourself a favour look after your hearing.
With IEMs you also meant to have a room mic set up as well which is used to make the sound in the IEMs feel less dry.
IEM Noob question here. Which of these Rolls units would easiect to include a click for use by a drummer?
Kennis Russell adding onto his question..how do you set up the metronome to each unit, the 50 and the 351? thanks
I am a drummer and I need a box to monitor myself though my trigger modular device and mix it with my metronome
Can you help me with this ? as i need 2 line in and one line out to send my triggers to the mixing board
Thank you
silly question but is it possible to plug a 4 channel mixer mixer into the rolls and send it back to the main mixer?
If I have a speaker sim guitar modeling rig can I just use the XLR in on the PM50 or is it different signal typology???
can you please do a super basic tutorial on how to connect a talkback if your mixer doesn't have a talkback button. thnx
Thank you so much.. this helped me a lot..
I have an older behringer board (ub1832fx) I've had some issues with. When I connect a 1/4" stereo cable to the aux out on the board and then the other end which is also a 1/4" into the rolls unit (pm50), I only have sound in the left ear. I'm using a Hosa headphone extension cable from the rolls unit into a pair of Shure se215s. I followed this set up from a vid from someone else. Am I doing something incorrect? Or could it possibly be my failing board?
Giovanni Cerva I have the same problem as you. Were you able to get it to work correctly?
can a wireless IEM be used with the 351? If so how?
QUESTION! For the PM50's, I noticed that there are 2 inputs for the phones; so In theory, could I have 2 people plug into the 2 phone inputs and hear through there?
Yes. They would get the same mix.
@@kennisrussell Thanks a ton!
For reference I have a hot road 50 what tube amp and a hd500x pedal board and a wireless guitar setup shure one
can you explain where to plug in the monitor input to the mixer to hear the click track? sorry noob here and thnx
so in reality if you only had 1 mix to workwith you can have 8 guys share it with two PS16s and they can just add more me with the PM50?
THANK YOU!!!
Hi thanks for the information... I have a question... Can I connect a guitar in mic plug in in the PM50s?
Yes
If I use direct box for backing track with drum does it work
Ken Im sure this is a stupid ?. The electric guitar cannot just go into the pm351 can it. does it need a pedal or pre amp to boost the signal. Darn di boxes mess with my head and they are so simple. also I have a 16 input snake with 4 sends so I could just use the sends and the to the pm351 and pm50. thanks for the great video and help thanks rws
Where do you connect the earphones?
Our sound guy was using these and a power amp to power the headphones. is that bad?
good knowlegde
On the electric guitar, where does the pedal connect? After the Rolls or before?
From the mixer to the snake,
From the snake to Rolls,
From rolls to pedalboard,
From pedalboard to guitar
Great !!
I'd like to see how would you do with the drummer's lines. Let's say for example you have a drummer with 8 channels
Would just use an extra mixer and then send it to the Rolls box the signal?
can you daisy chain the PS16s???
Can you plug your headphones straight into the PS16?
No,
PS16 is just to power each pm model using the same bus
How would I connect a pm50 to a bass that is connected to its own bass amp?
You wouldn’t need the bass amp anymore since it’s connected to the snake through the pm50. And bass player will hear themselves through the in ear system
can you connect a wireless mic to this?
what do you mean?
Alright, this is good information, but I do have a thought. I get that it is beneficial that the musicians can mix their own levels, but isn't that point made moot by the fact that the board can send a personalized mix anyway (assuming each musician has their own mix channel). I know that it's more work for the sound guy, but at the moment the way I see it is you don't need the PM351 with both the XLR and instrument inputs if you just get your sound guy to take a minute to tweak your head. With the PM50 you can still mix the entire signal and at least one instrument/mic, and if you're playing and singing just get the sound guy to turn up your other instrument. Am I on track here? Is it really worth it to spend the extra $37 (right now) to get the model with the instrument input?
Ahhh okay. I understand why you stressed it then. Thanks!
Sorry to burst the ballon but I have a problem with this system. The downside of this system is that if someone plugs in a 1/4" TS cable Into a hole that requires a 1/4" TRS cable, or the Mono switch on a Rolls 50, (or whatever) is set to Stereo when it should be set on Mono, the entire system will be down and in need of replacement. I know that sooner or later someone will make one of these mistakes.
Why?
what about talkback??
At the end of the video I'm not quite understanding the getting back to the board .....
I was confused at first till the last 2 minutes of the video
It seems like he is using 2 snakes
One for the aux inputs and another for the regular Channels going to the mixer
Can I use Rolls 50 as DI too ?
Yes it’s both are used for that purpose
The pm50 is only for one instrument while the pm351 can be used for 2. Vocals and for an instrument as well
I'm not following your explanation at all. Shouldn't the snake be collecting each instrument/vox input and routing it back to the mixing board via the channel INPUTS (NOT Aux outs as you indicated)? Then the Aux outs return the signal to the monitors so you can have a blend of band and "more of me" in your headphones? What am I missing?
5:25 the acoustic guitar player thinks he’s a protest singer 😄
try to whatch this while you are high..
Sorry, but In ears in mono are a waste of time and money, no one will ever be happy with them so why even start the journey when you know the destination is no good?
