i lost my hand in afghanistan, a few years after i got home i got lucky and bumped into clapton in the hotel my fiances family owned, i was working maintenance for them and bumped into him while changing a lightbulb, got talking to him and he even passed me up the new bulb. after 5-10 minutes of chatting i said "i cant play guitar anymore because of the hand" he looked at me with a calm but serious face and said "so? so what if your missing a hand, jeff healey had no eyes and his guitar riffs are unforgetable, just because your missing something important to playing guitar doesnt mean you cant" so i 3d printed an attachment for my prosthetic that could hold a pick, and ive been playing blues licks every chance i get

@@johnwdaley4727 honestly, it was because of clapton i got out a rut i was in, even my fiance was getting worried i might attempt suicide from depression since guitar was my life, my literal first word spoke as a child was "guitar" but thanks to clapton pointing out that limitations dont hold you back, i came out my shell more, and even got up on stage with the wedding band during my reception and played layla

I had the privilege of seeing Eric Clapton in 1968 with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce in the band Cream. Oh, those were some heady times!

Eric Clapton, Jimmy Paige, Eddie Van Halen, Mark Knoefler, Jimmy Hendrix just to name a few of the greatest guitarists ever....in my opinion
This is why Clapton is a legend. I saw him live in 1989 and was blown away. Check out Michael Schenker with UFO on their 1978 live album Strangers in the Night. It’s regarded as one the best live albums ever and Schenker is probably one of the most underrated guitarist. The entire album is fire, but check out Lights Out, Mother Mary or Rock Bottom. You won’t be sorry.

Eric has 5 guitars that he called the Crash series. He had a street artist paint 5 guitars for him.

He's a man who just loves to play guitar with friends.
He's earned his chops and doesn't need to put together the most complex virtuoso performances. But then it never sounds forced, it fits the music and the mood, and you can really only do that if you can perform while also paying attention to what's happening around you, not just what your fingers are doing.

Got to say that this is one of Eric's longer solos. Also one that sticks with you. He is an excellent player, for sure. I love when he does solos because, as you say, it can be so "clean" and then get down and "dirty". He does a solo in the song "Old Love" that is really nice. My favorite songs are mostly on his Journeyman tour in the early 90's. He seemed to be in his prime. Of course "Crossroads" in the early days was fantastic.
Probably his best crafted solo.

React to As My Guitar Gently Weeps from the 2004 rock n roll hof concert. Prince had one of the best guitar solos ever. Billy Gibbons and Tom Petty said it was one of the best performances they had ever seen.
Princes version was an overplayed mess, with no phrasing or feel for the song.
Clapton who played the original, did the best live version during the George Harrison tribute concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

Sorry for length. Hope you stick with me. If you haven’t seen that particular guitar you should check out Eric’s “Crossroads Guitar Festival” films. I believe he played that one @ the 2004 festival. There are five festivals, each recorded over a weekend of music. Each film about four hours long. Some of the best.
I grew up listening to, and seeing live, all of the greats of the 60s and 70s and they all had distinctive styles and personalities. The only comparison possible is according to the listeners individual taste. I’ve heard the “overrated” argument before, but that usually comes from someone who’s only listened to what has made it to Pop Radio (Layla, Tears in Heaven, etc.). Saw him with Cream, Derek and the Dominos, twice by himself, and two of the festivals. In addition, I’ve listened to every recording he’s ever released over my lifetime as well as countless others. Overrated? Not a chance. The best ever? If his music and playing connect with you more than others, yes. If someone else’s does, then no. And, if you listen to just about anyone famous or not so famous that came up after he did, you will definitely hear some of his riffs sprinkled in somewhere.
The only one I never got to see was Jimi. Saw them all. Allmans (with & without Duane), SRV, Beck, Floyd, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Tedeschi Trucks, Bonamassa, Winter, Frampton, King, Guy, Buchanan, AC/DC, Santana, Metallica, etc. etc. etc. Couldn’t possibly name them all here. Saw Zappa seven times. Talk about your ‘underrated’ guitarist.

Call me a skeptic but it's hard to believe a pro guitar player, regardless of genre, has never heard Clapton, Beck etc. I'm not a country music fan but I certainly know the top players and their material. Not buying it. Does this also mean you have never heard Segovia or Julian Bream?
To me he's great at what he does but he's pretty limited. Almost everything he's done sounds alike on solos.
