  • Climate change is an everyday reality in the Philippines. As an archipelago sitting on the typhoon belt and the Pacific Ring of Fire, the country is highly vulnerable to the worsening effects of global warming, causing significant disruptions in communities and affecting the lives of many Filipino people.
There are 24 local government units (LGUs) identified as susceptible to the effects of climate change in the country. To help protect these climate-vulnerable areas, the national government established the People Survival Fund (PSF) in 2012 to provide financing for climate adaptation programs and projects.
To date, 17 LGUs have been granted funding from the PSF, enabling the realization of their climate adaptation projects. Among the previously approved projects are those from Lanuza, Surigao del Sur; Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte; Gerona, Tarlac; Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte; Sarangani Province; and San Francisco, Camotes Island, Cebu.
Watch this video to see how the PSF empowered LGUs to strengthen their communities against the challenges posed by climate change.
