God I LOVE The Allman Brothers!! Best Southern Rock Band ever!!! I am a new subscriber, my friend! This is an early 1970s band from Florida. I believe this song dates from 1971. I was 14 years old at the time. I attended the same High School they did (not at the same time) Seabreeze Senior High, Daytona Beach, Florida.
Can't believe you haven't heard of them before. definitely listen to the Filmore East album, absolutely brilliant and then some of the live jams actually carry over to Eat A Peach. You've heard Duane Allman before even if you didn't know it. He worked on the Layla album with Clapton and provided all the slide guitar parts. These guys have been around for ages but sadly both Gregg and Duane Allman have died along with Berry Oakley the bass player. But they left an awesome musical legacy
My favorite Allman Brothers song. Just fantastic. A long time ago, a co-worker and I were singing to it, karaoke-style, at the top of our lungs in an apartment, and a neighbor called the police. You gotta sing it like that.
This is southern rock...they are the father and mother of Southern Rock!!! They gave birth to the genre!!! Southern Rock is a combination of blues/rock/country!!! Heavenly leaning (in the case of the Brothers) blues!! 👍 so much great music from the 60's and 70's. Great to see it from someone just discovering it. Now you know how us long haired kids felt back in the day!!!
My favorite band! I was fortunate at 16 y/o to catch them live at the Spectrum in Philly about a month or two after they cut their masterpiece in NY at the Fillmore East. As folks below mentioned, the live album is, "At Fillmore East" and many consider it the finest live Blues/Rock ever recorded. Be aware, most songs are WELL over 3/4 minutes long but not a wasted note. Also, this concert spills over to their next album, "Eat A Peach", a mix of live and studio. Well worth it, especially "Mountain Jam", a 33 minute plus song that has Duane doing some brilliant slide work after the drum solo, which by the way he's credited for inventing electric lead slide when his brother Gregg sent him some Coricidin pills for a cold and he emptied the bottle, put it on his finger and the rest is history.
Thank you! Enjoy your ride through their music. )) Late 1971 is a transitional point as you likely know now. RIP Duane. "Dreams" is one of my favorite.
That was 1971. "The Allman Brothers Band" first record. Live at The Fillmore is required listening. The last song "Mountain Jam" starts then gets cut off. You can hear that on the "Eat A Peach" album. I hate that you finally iget to hear them after most of them are dead. Jaimoe Johnson (drums) and Dickie Betts (guitar) are the only original surviving members. You should get all of the Wet Wille records as well as The Marshall Tucker Band and Ginderswitch. Sea Level was break off group when The ABB split up. Chuck Leavell plays keys with The Rolling Stones now. Sea Level was his killer band!!!!! Enjoy and Greetings From Macon, Georgia, USA....
Couldn't agree more ! My cousin was Red Dog, so I know of what you speak !! Glad you mentioned Chuck Leavell, he really brought a great sound to the band and was always in demand.
Great video!!! Welcome to Southern rock!!! Yes, the live version is absolutely insane, over 10 minutes!!! You can try Lynerd Skynerd next, maybe "Freebird."
So good watching young people being blown away with the music I grew up listening to. Glad I was able to grow up in such a great generation of the best music.
A little more Southern Rock. This is definitely 70’s. True story: there was a man from my hometown (which I still currently reside) who was a stage hand for the Allman Brothers for many many years. In the early 80’s he came back home. Well...... old guy had partied way to hard with them back then. Our community never knew what we may see from day to day from him. U see, he purchased a home right on the main drag(Main Street). One morning before school, my uncle carried my 2 cousins and myself to a local fast food restaurant to get a breakfast biscuit and when we passed by the guys house, he was sitting on the porch butt naked. My uncle couldn’t get to the nearest pay phone fast enough. Lol. I can’t help but think of him every time I hear the Allman Brorhers. He passed away several years ago.
Some good'old Southern Rock out of Macon, Georgia. Two stunning guitarist, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, with brother Greg Allman primary vocals. At Fillmore East is considered by many to be the greatest live album ever. You've heard Duane on Eric Clapton's Layla. Duane was killed by a motorcycle accident in 1971 and was replaced by another legendary musician Warren Hayes. Greg Allman died just last year. Songs: Jessica, Soulshine, Midnight Rider, Melissa, Statesboro Blues, It's Not My Cross to Bear, One Way Out, and list goes on and on. This is a band that is best listened to on one of their live albums because they will break out into 5, 10, 15, sometimes longer jams in the middle of their songs.
For me Ramblin' man was the introduction to the Allmans since it was all over the radio back in the day. Then other songs came along like Melissa and Midnight Rider that were all great to discover. Then I saw them live and reached the 'changed forerver' point and have loved them ever since. Play em on the ol' jukebox mate!
That was by far the most fun I’ve had today! They were incredible live. Off the hook. Amazing guitarists playing off each other from the original band thru the final line-up. I heard that for the first time live. I heard pretty much all ABB songs first at their shows. Off the hook. Other Deadheads got me into em. Crazy. Late ‘80s in NC -a whole section of the parking lot roped off for bikers. And a crazy 5 night run at the Warfield in SanFrancisco in 94. To the Peachfest in PA from first til their last. They’re amazing live!
They have leagues of fans of all ages. Again a great Southern Rock band straight out of the 70s. I'm 62 and have never tired of them. So sad death has stolen another great artist.
Love this song...my band plays this all the time. I'm a bassist and it's so much fun to play! When that 11/8 rhythm of the intro settles into the 12/8 of the verse you can just feel the release. It's like a weight being lifted off your shoulders.
who knows? The date you did this might be your next tatoo! :) Glad you liked....have the feeling will not be your last listen ! You truly sure check out the history, pretty amazing, was special time
Listen to "Dreams" or the slide monsters "One Way Out", "Don't Keep Me Wonderin' ", "Done Somebody Wrong", "Trouble No More" ( all from the Fillmore East) and "Stand Back" off 'Eat A Peach' for mind blowing !!!

Live at the Fillmore East is "the" Album!!! Enjoy
OMG!! I love this song!! You are going to be in Allman Brothers heaven!! I loved them in the 70’s & now! Duane & Dicky Betz. Great guitarists!
This is one of my favorite Allman Brothers songs! FABULOUS!
back for my 3rdor 4th viewing. saw it on day one. love your reaction.
You’re really diggin on it, that’s so cool. I’m 63 and still get chills
Great starting song. Try Midnight Rider....definitely along the same lines as this one.
I appreciate you listening to the WHOLE song before commenting. Your reaction was great too! *subscribed*
Melissa is a must. 😊👍🏻
Finally, you have to listen to Not my cross to bare!
Creation of southern rock. Yeah, Live from Filmore East is one of the best live albums ever. One Way Out is a favorite.
Thank you!
Enjoy your ride through their music. )) Late 1971 is a transitional point as you likely know now. RIP Duane.
"Dreams" is one of my favorite.
Experienced a Alman Brothers live concert "back when..."
My favorite American band of all time
That was 1971.
Pamela Scott did he go by the name “jimmy jam”?
Christian Brooks I am thinking that I did hear that his name was Jimmy. I can ask my mama & let u know.
Christian Brooks Mama said that she couldn’t remember but she knew his actual last name was Odom
I love this. It’s unapologetic, but a graphic depiction of Southern experience
yes they do it live.. they are amazing.. they are like the ultimate jam band :) Have never heard a song by them that I didn't like,,... enjoy them. :)
Yeah!!! Allman Brothers. Yes! Saw them live performing Whipping Post in Atl. One of their best songs
Yes. Definitely check out Live at the Fillmore.
Oh my...greetings from across the pond!
Gregg Allman R.I.P.
You truly sure check out the history, pretty amazing, was special time
Midnight Rider is one of my favorites. Everything I've heard from Allman Brothers was good.
Greg Allman keyboard and lead vocal was only 20 yrs old when this came out! Sounds older. I love driving on a trip with this album! 💞✌
