I drive 12 hours to go on vacation today, 30 minutes after I parked the Beal trade dropped. I brought a mic with me and made this happen... if you can't tell already I have some THOUGHTS about this trade...
Normal schedule this week including a post draft recap Thursday night with this style... enjoy the week!

@@peewee0224the no trade clause also means Beal can build the trade. If he felt like the wizards were gonna give up too much, he could veto the trade. Maybe you could’ve held out for more, but the reality of the situation is you have a top 20-30ish player getting paid like he’s MVP candidate that you can’t trade unless he lets you on the books till 2027. It’s arguably the worst contract in the league.
In trading him, you can begin the tank and showcase other guys without no trade clauses where you actually have leverage with.
This is horrifically bad return, like the type of return you’d expect for a guy like nurkic, but that no trade clause on top of having the 2nd highest contract in the league was gonna make it very tough to get anything worthwhile.

I actually think this trade could be better for the Wizards overall. If they get a 3rd team into the trade for CP3, as has been reported being looked at, the Wizards will likely get to offload a ton of money off their roster & start to rebuild. Beal isn't a max player & they'd be really bad for a while if they had to keep him. Now, they have a chance as a front office to clean house & start anew with a healthy amount of money to get a better star. And, the new CBA may make that easier to do as teams will struggle a bit more to keep their max players. I don't think the Suns, as they stand with this trade, will be that great. This team will play horrendous defense, they'll have no true playmaker, and they'll struggle to sign good backups because of their heavy contracts on & the new CBA. Somehow, I foresee their bench being worse next season than the latter part of this past season for the Suns, which is pretty crazy. And, they aren't going to get a good trade for Aytom if they try to get rid of him because teams know they are desperate on that front. I think they'll just be a slightly worse version of the Kings. High-powered offense, bad defense.
Edit: just to add to my point on the Suns building a roster. Auton, Booker, Durant, & Beal alone put them over the luxury tax. That's without a 5th starter signed right now. So, the Sun may actually have a 5-man lineup woth a bunch of duds on the bench.

I’ve been a wiz fan since gill, Caron, and Jamison. The wiz last exciting year was 2017 vs Boston. Since wall hit that game winner it’s been down hill. Beal wasn’t the player we needed. He is a solid number #2 and a excellent 3rd option. But he isn’t a first option. In all honesty I am glad the current front office got it done. We’ve been needing a rebuild since the John Wall injury. Obviously I wish they could’ve gotten more but sadly that is the predicament the current front office was faced with. It’s easy to say they messed this up but they did the best they could. It would’ve been way worse keeping him and repeating the endless cycle. Paul will most likely be bought out of his partially guaranteed contract or traded. hopefully they allow kuz to walk because over paying for him to stay would quite literally make this whole trade for nothing. Also with the rule changes it helps out cap space. The first step is always the hardest but now that it is over the wiz are in a much better position to rebuild this team without Beal.

It just wasn't going to happen. Not from any team in the league right now.
But, I do wonder how this works from the Suns side of things. Is Booker or Beal the PG? Neither have the height or ability I think to be slotted as a SF and push Durant to PF.
So I have questions on that side.
But the Wizards got back some pick swaps and second round picks as well, so that will be determined at a later time if any of them work out.
If they can convince Chris Paul to stay, and keep KP and Kuzma, then they are a piece or two away from contending in the east. If they make smart moves. Of which unfortunately, the Wizards have rarely made.
I look at it as them if they have to go full rebuild, then this is about stocking draft picks between 1-5 for the next 3-4 years and really rebuild the roster. Giving some young players a chance to play and see what they have. Probably trade CP3 for a couple of young players as well so he has a chance at a title.
Possibly do a sign and trade with KP to stock more picks and young talent. Kuzma I just see going.
But this has a chance to be the kind of rebuild the team has needed for a long time. 5 years from now, we might be seeing the rise of an Eastern Conference powerhouse. Or yes, it could be one of the worst trades of all time and doom the Wizards for the next decade.
    We just don't know yet.
Phoenix, my only concern is how it works between Beal and Booker in the backcourt. Talent wise, I think they are as dangerous as ever. But I also think it means they will trade Ayton to get depth. He won't want to further reduce his role on offense. He wants to prove he can either be a 1st or 2nd option for a championship team. Can he? I don't know. But I can't see him wanting to stay as a 4th option when he was wanting to leave a year ago for a chance to be more.

What this guy is not getting as far as the return is how impactful Beal's no-trade clause is. He was not going to approve a trade where the team he was going to gave up most of the team to give him....the Wizards were at Beal's mercy.
On the flipside, Washington wins either way because they are off the hook with paying a guy $200+M WITH a full no-trade clause. Also, they can just waive CP3. They can start from scratch and never make a decision like they did with Beal's no-trade again. They weren't winning anything with Beal as they can't attract Free Agents.
Phoenix can be the HUGE loser in this. If Beal is injured a lot and more specifically if they don't win a title, the Suns loook foolish for going after a "big ticket item" instead of building a solid team around the 2 stars on KD and Booker.

I don't think the main point of the Beal trade was to get back some legendary haul, or even a great haul. The main point was just to offload the worst contract in the sport. Its an entirely new front office trying to clean up the mess that the last one left, and they're also reportedly taking calls on Kristaps, which spells a full-blown rebuild, something the franchise really needs. Your point about some team probably being able/wanting to offer more is valid for regular trades and literally everyone else in the league, but not Beal. Beal's NTC makes it so he can decline any trade, any time. I doubt he'd want to go somewhere he cannot contend, which is why only the Heat and Suns got real traction on a deal. It's not like the hornets could offer 3 FRPS and LaMelo and its as simple as the Wizards accepting it, because if beal doesnt want to go to Charlotte he can just say the word and the whole thing falls apart. The wizards had 2 options:
    1) Offload beal for whatever they could get and start rebuilding
    2) Continue to be in the middle of the first round of the draft (8 seed) until finally letting Beal walk in 5 years
The correct option is glaringly obvious. Thus, the wizards absolutely won the deal, even though they didn't get a whole lot back.

It appears that Phoenix and Miami were the only ones on Beals list that were actually interested in him back.
Miami were stalling, understandably holding out for Lillard.
The Wizards were probably concerned that the Suns would change their mind and/or go after Lillard too.
But quite simply even if Lillard never becomes available that either the Suns or the Heat realise there are better options out there for them to go after.
It is crazy to think that the Suns are ~$30m over the cap with just four players and only have one more under contract (Payne). They have no starting point guard and/or are going to have to play guy(s) out of position.
From the Wizards point of view it seems odd to not include another team to try and get a first. They don’t have their own 2024 pick.

I don’t think it’s very fair to criticize what Washington got in return for Beal when the trade had to be approved by Beal in order for it to go through. Why is he going to allow his new team to give up valuable assets when he doesn’t have to. What Washington really gets from this is the 2nd biggest contract in the NBA off their books, whatever they get in return for CP3 when they trade him, and a direction for their organization. I give them a B. It can’t be an A because you don’t get anything back that you’re super excited about, but a positive move for them for sure

  • @ssholla92
    @ssholla92 ปีที่แล้ว

I question whether or not you are thinking logically on this.
As far as Phx perspective, they were giving up a player that at best they hoped would re-sign at a vet min after getting waived and losing half his salary. The possibility of him just leaving and the Suns having to stretch the $15 mil over a number of yrs was high. They also wanted to get rid of Shamet. Most Suns fans wanted them to cut him during the regular season, so this was addition by subtraction. Do you actually see the Wizards finishing above the Suns in the next 4 yrs? That means the puck swaps mean nothing. The 2nd round picks are going to be late, and Ishbia will most likely try to buy some earlier ones in these yrs, so doesn’t mean anything. They also wouldn't have cap space if they waived CP3 either, so why not?
As far as the Wizards, you know they were over the barrel and basically had to get out from under that contract. You can't bottom out, and you can’t get cap space when you're ready to start competing and attracting FAs, if you're stuck in mediocrity with Beal's contract. Beal had all the power in this instance. He went where he wanted to go, and he made sure they didn’t gut their team for him, so he can compete for a title. Now, they can tank and start building correctly. They are probably targeting the '26 draft for their last bad yr and draft before their rise.the '26 draft has 3 projected studs available so far.

I think that the Suns are really going to regret these Durant and Beal trades in a couple of years. Going forward, they have no assets and no realistic ways of improving the roster outside of trading one of their core players. It's very possible they could be trading away multiple high lottery picks as a result of these trades.
