Wizards fan here: this is the final nail in the coffin from Tommy Sheppard’s dull incompetence, and we just gotta move on. The return’s not great, but our new GM has been the #2 under Sam Presti with OKC and I trust him to draft well. Finally a new era and rebuild time after waiting my entire life for it.

As a Pacers fan, Ayton is one of the least wanted players for us. We absolutely DO NOT want him! He's been terrible while Myles had a career year and arguably for the first time in hjs career is playing the role he's meant to play, while the Pacers arguably has some of the best chemistry of any team. Everyone gets along, never any drama, everyone does what they're told to do and there's no ego. Ayton would throw a wrench in all of that just while also downgrading our center position. Really the only thing we'd get out of it is that he's a couple of years younger.

It’s funny how Casey comes up with so many Myles Turner trades. Pacers will never ever agree to trade Turner for Ayton (even less with McConnell included). They signed the offer sheet last offseason because they could have gotten Ayton “for free”, but that’s really it. There is no need to start a new Center project in Indy

    • @kenny-my1db

Yeah i agree with you. That's an L trade by AM Hoops. Myles Turner alone is worth more than Ayton. Better defender and he can knock down the 3. The Suns need to improve their bench. They struggle during the playoffs and had to relay on Booker and KD to score most of the points. Yes, they added Beal but like it’s literally the three top scorers, Ayton, Cam Payne and the rest of the roster is determined on who they sign. What people don't understand about the trade is that the Suns basically have known they want to trade Ayton. And they knew they could get a few depth pieces for him, Chris Paul being old now and declining, was a huge problem...they literally got rid of that problem as far as them not getting back something for him...but then tada the Beal trade. Little and Nurkic actually isn't that bad. Little is an up-and-coming 3-&-D wing currently under the radar, a perfect fit for the Suns' needs. 3-&-D wings are the hardest to find in today's league and Nas Little is a diamond in the rough. Nurkic has been expanding his range, so he could provide the spacing that Ayton doesn't. With KD and Book getting so much attention, some extra spacing could be helpful. Nurkic admittedly doesn't do much but rebound on defense, but Biyombo has been very good on D in his time with the Suns, and he could easily absorb more minutes. Also finding a different cheap free agent center who can defend, screen, and dunk off the roll might not be too difficult, if Biyombo isn't their guy.

i put data from raptor and epm into Chatgpt and asked it what type of player the suns should get : it cuts of 2021 so i jsut asked for exaple players and why:
Certainly, given the current NBA landscape (as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021), here are some examples of players who might fit the Suns' needs:
    Offensive Contributor:
Karl-Anthony Towns: Known for his offensive versatility as a center, Towns could provide scoring, shooting, and playmaking from the center position. His defensive impact has been a subject of debate, but his offensive contributions could significantly enhance the Suns' performance.
Bradley Beal: If the Suns are looking for more perimeter scoring, Beal is one of the top shooting guards in the league when it comes to offensive production. His ability to score in bunches could take some pressure off Booker and Durant.
    Defensive Big Man:
Myles Turner: Known for his shot-blocking abilities, Turner would add a solid defensive presence in the paint. In addition, he can also spread the floor on offense with his three-point shooting.
Rudy Gobert: Known as one of the best defensive players in the NBA, Gobert's presence would significantly bolster the Suns' interior defense. However, his limited offensive game might not fit the Suns' need for more scoring.
    Better Bench Performance:
Derrick Rose: Rose has had success leading the second unit with the New York Knicks, providing scoring and playmaking off the bench.
Joe Ingles: Known for his solid play on both ends of the court, Ingles could provide a boost to the Suns' bench. His playmaking, scoring ability, and solid defense could be beneficial in a bench role.

A good analysis. It would, however, been insightful also to look at the new rules on the luxury tax for salaries. If I remember correctly, it’s going to be impossible to have three large contracts on one team. That is, you can only have two players who make more than $40 million/year. If this starts in ‘24, which I think it does, than the Suns have one year to win a championship with these three players. In other words, the new rule on luxury tax means that one of the players, of the three, has to be traded at the start of the ‘24 season.

Having watched Ayton for years, he is very good, closing in on stud status with his potential among the top 5 Suns Centers, but he is mentally soft. Maybe age and a change in scenery will help, but these create major issues when the Suns needed him most. He is not small, in good shape, but gets tossed around like a doll with other bigs. The Durant trade last year did not have time to cure and you saw fluidity issues, yet they still were the most competitive against the Nuggets, and had Ayton stepped up, could have taken the Championship.

So as a Miami fan, i disagree. It is obvious after 2 lost finals that what we need is size and a dependable center that can stretch the floor. For those that were not watching the finals games, that is why we lost both vs Denver and Lakers. As much as i'd love Beal or Dame, realistically those guys will not help us get there. Meanwhile, a certain Valanciunas is a good option, Vuč (granted he did not have a great season but i believe in Miami he would have a rebirth) is a free agent, Kristaps could be an option if healthy, and there are other players that would fit us nicely at the center position and that is a much bigger need than a third star.
