Who's going to the DefiWind? if so.. see you there! ...It's been a while since I've been back on the flat water gear.. looks like I better hurry up and get myself in shape.. NOT long to go! (Thanks to Finn Noer for filming with the drone!)
Had to undergo shoulder surgery this spring. Still not feeling right, but I desperately need to get on the water again. Maybe not for defi, but getting back into shape is definitely a priority.
I'll be there Ben, first time at the Defi! I did exactly what you said, bought a second hand Isonic Slalom board. But only 91 L. Now watching you I wonder if I have gone to small?
It will be my first defi wind for me. i will go from Norway total 3000km one way i hope to be in Gruisian in about 04.29 date and have possibility to train in place. see you Ben there!!
@@RichardClaptout no that should be perfect.. the wind at the Defi can be Nuking. The only thing you need to be careful with is the chop and dirty wind from 1000 windsurfers.. you need to get a good start with the smaller gear. But the board I used in this video won't be getting used at the Defi.. too big!
I have not competed in windsurfing since 1990, but going to get back in shape and see what I can achieve in local events. One day will be a world champion 😂😂😂😂
Some of the best drone video I've seen on windsurfing, looks awesome! That match of fin & board looked great. I just put a Kashy 38 on my Tabou Rocket + 113 and it made a huge difference.
Bought some slalom gear for defi and so did my wave sailing mates. We are all loving wave-slalom. We are all as enthousiastic about racing as you are in this movie :D I'm a bit jealous about this flat water, we are always in major chop at least, waves mostly :)))
Nice one Ben. Great to give some credit to the race and freerace kit. I would only dispute your point about going for 5 yr old secondhand gear - you can go older than that. My Futura freerace is 10 yrs old and I've put a race fin in it - it's an absolute beast! If only I could come out of those gybes planing!!
I thought I did!! I said 2010 it was good... 14 years ago.. so if you go 5 years it's like new! (or something like that) The thing is 5 years old stuff is super cheap... compared to new and 10 year old stuff doesn't get that much cheaper relatively. Well that's the point I was trying to make.
Great video, thank you 😎. I enjoyed all the camera angles and on water chat. Would be awesome if you did same format again in that location but on the windfoil.
Nice vid & chat, totally agree with you (foil/fin) horses for courses and a different feeling. Anyway hope everyone has a great summer sailing whatever 🎉
I'm propably gonna be there to watch once again. Been too sick with pneumonia to participate. I guess you know the drill...10km of pain and pain. And then back an more pain. Unless it's 50 knots
Awesome video (as always :-)), for me is the same, I prefer freerace fin towards foil, except if there is not enough wind for fin at my local spot. I was two years ago participating at Defi, a really great and though experience, but unfortunately not this year. two years ago (in September) I was as well in "Viana" and in "Martinhal", very nice spots, loved and good luck in Gruissan!!
End of Defi 2023: ooh me back, ooh me back, I must try a seat harness or that Liberty harness which I will review. 11 months later.... I'm sure I had a Liberty harness somewhere in the garage, where is it??? 😂
Where I live we have a lot of days with 10 to 15 knots. I find having a windfoil board has taken away the frustration of marginal planing days. If it's too light for the fin I just take the foil. I virtually never use my 6.6m2 sail anymore. I just rig 5.6 for everything and change to fin and slalom board when it gets windier. Fin is still the most fun though. For me they compliment each other.
Loved this video Ben. Totally agree with the fin vs foil. They each have there place but man, nothing beats the feeling of being so connected to the water and flying on the fin!
Another awesome one! And yes finally someone said it, "You're just changing the parameters around." Indeed. But marketing from any windsurfing brand will strongly disagree with me. Fin for life! Good luck for your 2 weeks training, knowing full well that it takes 10-14 days for your body to see any benefit from a specific training session 😅
Sorry to ask... but you are floating on a 116? can in just ask how much you weigh? Trying to get back into surfing but i am absolutely puzzled what to get to get back into it. (Last time i surfed it was in the days of mistral screamers and F2 sunsets. the OG ones.) So is a 116 a good starting point? most likely not a slalom board i know..

"It is so comfy" just remember that an hour into defi ;)

Love the drone shots
loving this series

Ben as a Pro sailor / commentator enthusiast , if you aren’t fit enough after wave sailing all winter everyone is even more fxxxxxd!
I guess he uses all the beer money for beer indeed...and beer has lots of calories
I really need a van like that, full of beautiful toys🤩

No Defi for me this year - but you've convinced me I need a VMax 6.0 before Weymouth in October!

Nice video!!
If it’s under 15 knots I use race foil gear, and if it’s over 15 I’m on slalom gear. Best of both worlds. 😊

Makes total sense.. whatever gets you on the water and enjoying the conditions. But Full power on the fin is my favourite too :)
Love your work Ben. Looking forward to enjoying Defi vicariously through your reporting

Hallo Ben See you at the Defi. Alexander from al- boards

Awesome video was always. Which waterproof mic are you using? The sound is super clear!
I need to get to Martinhal.
And... 11 weeks to go until Pozo Training Diaries!!!
This video makes me smile, don't shut up..
See you at the defi, ben . But who is going to comment the races ?
Slalom gear, Ben?! Oh God! That's as bad as a kite! Don't go to the other side - too often.
I only use slalom gear. All the times i take wave or freeride gear i think its a slow bumpy ride 😂
Ben, get in shape for gods sake...you must be receiving lots of beer money as we can see 😂
WOW
Good luck down there! Got an S-Max?
I have a 7m SMax…
Damn, I chose 6.5...
Hi Ben, your onboard videos are brilliant, what camera do you use for them?
Greetings from a big fan of yours.
Cheers mate.. the camera is a ‘insta360 X3’ with flymount and extension arm

How do you get in the back footstrap so quickly?
You mean after the gybe?
@@WindsurfingTV in general.
Ben, the board in 106l match maybe better
yes totally.. I have 96.. but don't have a 106! Depends on the wind..last time I was on the 80!!!! haha
what board are you bringing to Defi?
not decided yet... but probably a few! :)
You be been windsurfing all winter and you re not in shape ?? 🤔🤔
Foil and Fin are different sports. For me it is simple as that. Foil is boring. Fin is always "power". I love it.
Ben, please do a jibing lesson, or even more!
Cheers
This training ist useless If there is no foam at all...😂
haha.. agreed!! But this is Day 1.. Foam in coming!! Hopefully!!
