    I've never seen anyone do paved roads before. I used to use black paper as a kid. Looks like a ton of work but it looks fabulous! I think your cat agrees...

    I think I have finally found the way to build my roads. I have watched allot of vids. You explain it well and maybe this rookie can do it. Thanks allot.

    Just a suggestion. You can mix white glue with water, about 1/3 glue to 2/3 water, into a spray bottle and cover large areas of dirt or grass. Just a few drops of dish washing liquid so the glue doesn't bead up when you spray it. If the Woodland Scenic's is thin enough, you might try putting it into a spray bottle. The layout is looking good!

      The Man needs some AFX slot car track for his streets and highways.Instead of non working streets.Check out some H.O videos with trains and slot cars on same track.

    I'm learning a lot from you, as I prepare to build my first HO scale layout (which will be 5 x 16 in size). I'm concerned about how you apply the glue pretty much one drop at a time. I think I'd go a bit crazy with the time it takes. So, I'm wondering if there are any other options. Also, I have a black cat. So, it's fun to see your cat in the videos.

    Great video and the way you did your street w that tape from Dollar Tree worked perfectly! Then the street after brush painting it black turned nice! I took notes of how to do my 2 streets by the way you did yours.

    Great video, but I prefer to cut 1/8" foam board for the roads. Far easier, less mess, cheap at dollar store, paintable and looks better IMHO. It's also easier to remove if ever needed. Just another option for consideration.

    I’ve found a much better product than Woodland Scenics Smooth-It for making streets and highways for model railroads: Red Devil OneTime Lightweight Spackle. It’s pre-mixed. No fuss, no mess. Just apply with a putty knife between the paving tape (though I do recommend masking tape underneath that if applying to a plywood base).
    It sands easily with much less dust, and takes paint beautifully.
    Why mix a powdery product that usually winds up in your lungs when you don’t have to!

    Nice work, I've just watched the first 5 episodes and will be checking out the others. What's the difference between "Smooth -It" and plaster of paris or spackling compound?

  • @animewithsenpai2923
    @animewithsenpai2923 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I use plaster of Paris accualy you get alot in one bag and it does the same thing as smooth it honestly i think woodland senics is just expensive plaster good job though

    I built my first layout in 1976. Love the use of foam board. Obviously much lighter and easier to affix the cork and track. Just wondering though, you have great attention to detail in your layout and in the videos so I'm curious to know if you plan on putting bumpers at the end of the lines in the freight yard sections for authenticity. I used the ones with the red lights. Adds a great finishing touch. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work!

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow you must have a lot of good knowledge on model railroading! But I do plan to get those little bumpers, except they will go on my new layout! The red light on them would be a marvelous detail

      @@TopRailroad I noticed that you were wearing a Harley Davidson t-shirt in one of your videos which begs the question, do you ride? I've been riding motorcycles, Harleys mostly for about as long as I've been in love with HO trains. When its winter and I can't ride is when I concentrate on the trains. It's a great indoor hobby. Another thing: I like how you use things from your own backyard to use in your scenery. Whenever I'm building rock formations or need a few large boulders in a scene I'll go to one of the local rail lines and scoop up a bunch of the ballast rocks and use them adding great authenticity to the scene. If you ride...keep the shiny side up and keep on 'training!'

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carlloud1187 I don’t ride any motorcycles but I have always appreciated and liked them a lot. It’s awesome that you ride though! But I do agree trains is a great hobby for indoors. Thank you for the super cool comments. The ballast idea is also one I’ll keep in mind. Same to you man!

    got a question, are we able to use any type of glue or just the glue u used

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use other glue but you want to make sure they do the same thing. Like for scenic glue, if you don’t have it, you can mix mod podge matte glue and water at a 50/50 ratio to have the same thing pretty much
