I had a friend who started the game as rifle warrior. Played through PvE, PvP and even WvW with various rifle based builds. I think the older GW2 community is too desensitized to concepts such as fun and self-expression. People will also be very judgemental towards such builds that differ wildly from meta even if the content we're clearing is trivial and the build is performing viable. Thats a second problem, the gap between viable and competitive is far, far too large.
@rain7458, You said “the gap between viable and competitive is far too large”, which is exactly what I’ve been saying for years. Why can’t Anet simply adjust the DPS numbers for every single weapon in the game, so that at least they are within 5% of each other? Each weapon will still have variations on what they do and what roles they are best suited for, support boons, healing, power DPS, or condi DPS, but at the minimum, balancing the DPS numbers will make every weapon viable for use in at least one build configuration, or more. Currently there are many weapons that are never considered viable for any serious end game group content, on each profession. As for your statement about “fun and self expression”, it isn’t fun for the rest of a squad to have to carry a player who isn’t contributing to completing a event (Raid or Strike), when their available time to play GW2 is limited. Unless the whole squad is okay with carrying a substandard player and is aware of the situation, or the whole squad is playing weird builds and doesn’t care about completing the Raid or Strike. If the unusual build is performing close to the rest of the other players, then no one should care what build it is.
The statement about that Gap is true across PVE, WVW, and PVP. SPVP was originally envisioned with bunkers and brawlers. Today, they have balanced that out of the game, and consequently the play is unbalanced overall.
You know the funny thing is I really don't think the older players give a shit at all. If someone joined a run (or any of 'good players' runs) on rifle warrior I don't think anyone would care. The biggest meta enforcers are always players who think they know the game but are actually clueless, similar to how silver/gold is the most toxic part of pvp. So don't get me wrong, I agree people are funny about the meta, but I don't really like throwing the raid vets under the bus on this one, it's actually the noobs who do it the most lmao.
Since Roy joined the WvW team things have become a mess, they really don't know what to do and the proof is that they have destroyed every concept of specialization design making all the beautiful work of the game designers useless, nerfing things without a clear goal and every patch has just been a series of trials and errors where they had to cancel almost everything or weaken something else to try to "balance" the previous mess and so on. At the end of the day they never really balanced the game but added nerf after nerf creating a complete "hellzapoppin". I sincerely hope that in the near future Arenanet will hire someone truly skilled in WvW (in the broadest sense of the term) to fix a game mode that for too long has been the victim of a catastrophic "vision" based on an eternal beta testing
They are just trying to undo the mess the balance has been since PoF, with overloaded kits and random boons/conditions attached to everything for a good measure.
People who play a lot of WvW won't be able to fix WvW. If you look at professional LoL players for example, they usually have provably (from a logical perspective) incorrect takes about balance and why things are how they are, informed by their understanding of how the game should play and their very ground level only overview of the game. WvW players will be the same. The primary concerns are how to keep new players coming into WvW and staying, and how to improve group play in WvW. That entrenched player might not be willing to gut thief or break zergs, because they might like and think fight guilds are the correct way to play, or roaming on thief and spreading c is the intended design of the game. Far better to have someone sensible and good at evaluating objectively who then perhaps consults WvW PvPers for feedback about the numbers, in order to bring the mode into a state more in line with a better vision. Basically, objectivity, capability and a good vision are what's called for, not a love of the mode. Players usually know the problem, but misdiagnose the solution. Roy plays WvW.
@ yeah, can't be at the ground level playing the mode and have a top down view of how to fix it. Too easy to carry biases over based on what you experience from it, not what the mode's ideal form looks like. It might be tricky to do anything to radically progress WvW towards a more ideal state this late in the piece, though.
I understand nerfing classes for WVW and PVP but come the fuck on it's PVE. I really wish they would not take the joy out of 90% of the classes to play with every balance patch.
The fact that this is the first change to the Spellbreaker heal since release shows you how antiquated most utilities really are among all classes. They need to be updated for the modern game across the board. So many useless skills. To say nothing of DPS classes who STILL cannot slot meaningful group utility vs DPS who can.
I'm excited to play some more Heal Specter. I've been enjoying it a lot since they changed the scepter #2 skill to be ground targeted and these upcoming PvE changes sound like it will be a lot less of a pain in the ass to properly support your allies.
The warrior Dual Wielding change sounds like it'll be funny (though probably not all that good) combined with Might Makes Right and Sun and Moon Style with an offhand dagger. Throw in Relic of Zakiros on top of that for even more lifesteal.
funnily enough the alac bladesworn wvw build was probably going to become meta if not for the alac removal, kinda like mech before it got its alacrity on barrier removed
Very nice, always some changes, Commanders will have to break their brains with numbers again, I would like to see some kind of implants in the future or growth of statistics based on the time or age spent in the game, to make some kind of difference, you know what you say, ok, I'm 5 years old and these statistics have increased for me, that would be nice :)
Oh yeah my ultra glass cannon untamed sniper is gettiing three damage modifiers this patch ! Now i should be able to do around 16-17k damage from a single arrow.
I'm most excited for the fact that now necro will have a heal on it's mainhand using that taste for blood buff. If it works like I think it does, it SHOULD trigger on hit of any dagger skill, including autos, which would make skill 2 give more stacks since it hits more. either way, It means that there MIGHT be a universe in which heal quick harbinger is ok! It will not be as defensive as a scourge, since it won't have barrier, but it could be interesting!
They keep nerfing my favorite roamers. So I go out of my way to make Minstrel armor to switch to support So they nerf support too I think I might be finally done with this game mode. The devs clearly hate WvW players.
WvW balance is a mess...but i understand their direction Alac is too much for the game mode They should give all former alac supports quickness in my opinion and cut down the quick durations everywhere so it is a situational tool for quick bursts instead of perma boons PVE can live with (and requires in modern times) perma boons but for the competitive gamemodes its pure cancer But now at least heal tempest can now finally take the heal with aura trait without worries 😅😂😂
Both spec will still be good... Condi virt will most likely not be affected much and condi temp is unchanged Power virt will look not so bad after the patch, FA temp most likely will be bit dumpstered...we will see. Just a bit above 40k is really not so good anymore. Even if its bursty (if numbers remain unchanged) But lets wait a bit... I really hope they will change at least the dmg GM trait of temp instead if overload air or they will really kill the adps power version... But then its back to condi with pistol again (& thats a build i do not enjoy as much as the FA version) At least condi druid will be better now 😉
Just as I started understanding how to play Harbringer in sPvP, they nerf him so hard fml. Spear 2 wasn’t even that strong, it was hard af to land it, most of the times the enemy dodged, blocks, teleports away or similar while the animation is being cast
I find the FA tempest nerfs a bit harsh too... Yeah ofc it needed an adaptation to bring it more in line with other builds, but it it only comes out barely above 40k thats a really bitter one to swallow 😅 I mean condi dps firebrand (dps not the qpds) is doing 42,9 right now. Versatility is no issue there ^^ I am also completely fine if pure dps builds are between 42-43k But at least they should bring all builds in line. Not leave a willbender with 45-46k alone... Or a qdps deadeye which does 42k 😂 But i really hope that they will not kill apdps tempest... Because right now they will 🙈
Its not "weak" - its just much more difficult to play in comparison But the devs stated ages ago that no difficult to play build should do more dmg than an f.e. LI build Some are just easier than others. But what the devs want to incorporate is the versatility of the build (which is fine - as long as the difference is not too horrendous) If f.e. weaver should be the highest dps class (because it can do literally nothing else), then it ofc should be the heaviest hitter But the role of a pure dps is to do dps. If a pure dps cannot pump enough its not worth bringing. Same is going on with power dps herald. The build can bring anything the quick version can, but its bench is only like 38/39 k? Its versatility is not worth much if there are builds out there blasting with 43-45k Nobody plays it and thats exactly what happened in the past. Its a narrow path the devs decided to take here A build "existing" is not the same as "working well" All of us are "existing", but are not "doing well" 😂😂

Why they don't just keep Push in pvp matchmaker in addition to the stuff we already have is beyond me. It's like feeding a starving person and then taking their food away after they take 3 bights. PvP is dead and they just can't stand the idea of giving it life support for too long lol.

Okay but we have to PERFECTLY play a fucking church organ with pedals and all in order to make elementalist work tho. And that's to just do average dmg, compared to classes doing 40k and 1v3 while afk, this is the stupidest nerf anet did by far, and they did some really stupid nerfs in the past...
@MightyTeapot truth be told FA tempest requires not many buttons, but its still quite spammy Its not a LI build as other classes have (for people with handicaps) but its the closest ele has 😅
GW2 pvp is entirely designed and balanced around kiting and terrain usage and has been since day 1 and it’s an incredibly fun and skill expressive part of the game. Without terrain usage the entire gw2 PvP experience would dissolve into mush and who can press their buttons hardest wins ( and we’re already too close to that right now lol)
@@MightyTeapot We can agree on kiting and I can imagine there should be some ability to kite the teleport. for example, if there was a short timer before the player appeared, or if they got a self-immo due to them being disoriented. Then it would still be on the player rather than them, completely cancelling out the opponent merely by standing in a certain spot. Using the terrain is different from abusing pathing to avoid something. You used to be able to do something similar in WoW back in the day and it was removed for a reason. There are plenty of ways to kite something while still staying within the confines of the code, all it requires is imagination and creative problem-solving. All teleports could easily get the fade-in as they can be quite oppressive if they can only be avoided by terrain abuse.
@@nielsjensen4185 I'm gonna be real I don't think willbender is that oppressive, it's just that people don't know how to play against it because most people don't use terrain. Willbender is just similar to thief in that if you don't know the basics of gw2 pvp it is going to farm you really hard. I think the hammer build (like a lot of hammer guard builds) is actually very unfair for new players (because of the mighty blow -> port precast), but not the greatsword builds as those are reasonable to play around if you learn how it works imo. I think the way GW2 pvp works is fine as of now from a technical perspective, however I would 100% say that kiting spots should be better telegraphed, communicated to the player better, and be more consistent too, it's not always obvious where you are safe and that is a big problem. any weird knowledge check is not good for new players, but the mechanic itself is fine. I think coliseum is a good example of where it's pretty obvious where you are safe because of how the map is built, and I think visual adjustments to other maps could do something similar to help players understand how to play against builds that use teleports.
@@MightyTeapot If you can abuse terrain no. If this was intended then this would be able to stop non-targeted teleports as well. You also end up at a stand-still if both are melee-only and have no ranged weapons. The WB is unable to teleport to you and you have effectively removed yourself from the fight. I can see this being effective in a 1v1 situation and sometimes you get groups and then it's counter-productive. It's also extremely oppressive at lower ranks, similar to the Juggernaut Engineer build that was bad at a high rating and nearly unstoppable at a low rating because people had no chance to learn how to counter it. Reaper as well, same story due to the ablative health bar. At high ratings, people know that when Reaper enters Shroud they only have five skills, that those skills hit extremely hard to compensate, and that if you can avoid those skills then the Reaper Shroud is nothing. No LoS requirement for Teleports is a massive balance issue as well. I had a PvP match where I was in a 1v1 situation and nearly downed a Dragonhunter, except they ported away, to get to them I had to go around and they could then just jump down if needed, which there was no need of as it gave them a second burst window where they could wreck me. From my PoV that was less "clever use of game mechanics" and more of a "Yeah, gonna add this to my reasons to never play PvP again." That's extremely unhealthy for the mode. There are several ways that things could be made better and ANet always chooses the 'hammer' that solves little and just makes the problem less obvious and still a problem. For example, Stealth. The issue with Stealth is the Stealth mechanic itself rather than the CD of when people can go into Stealth. All ANet does by adding 10s to Stealth timers is that the problem arises every 40 seconds rather than every 30. What would solve the problem once and for all if there was a Grace period where after you used Stealth were unable to be affected by another Stealth effect for X time.
@@nielsjensen4185 It does stop non targeted teleports though, and it's not a standstill, it means the willbender has to do the same kiting puzzle too and take that risk. I don't disagree with stealth being problematic in it's fundamental design in PvP, it's very hard to balance and you can see that with how brutal some of the nerfs to thief are lol. And on the DH example, yeah they outplayed you, you need to know when to not chase and get baited by opponents, if you forced them away from the node you still won the engagement, you actually threw the engagement by following there.

@MightyTeapot what u mean tempest is ez? A puddle of pee from a moa can quite literally shut down the whole spec main mechanic, it's so dumb imo
@@manmataya overload air then press a few skills, swap to f1 or f2 and press 2 skills, and then back f3 and just repeating is pretty damn easy lmao
what ele mains actually believe
@MightyTeapot truth be told FA tempest requires not many buttons, but its still quite spammy
Its not a LI build as other classes have (for people with handicaps) but its the closest ele has 😅
Or, hear me out, how about doing something about the oppressiveness instead of having to rely on wonky terrain coding?
