Lake County Diamonds
Formula : Sio2
Lake county Diamonds are not true diamonds , they are a unique semi-precious gemstone,
A type of quartz - composed of silicon dioxide and some other trace elements , Found only in the Lake county region of California .
these tiny gems grow differently than other common forms of quartz, their growth occurs according to the temperatures deep within the earth. They have formed at a very specific high temperature of 1,112 degrees Fahrenheit in actual lava flows. This creation process results in making this one of a kind mineral.
They can only be found in this region. They have a rating of 7.8 - 8 on the Moh’s scale of hardness. Compared to other quartz which is usually a 7.
They have an intense clarity and brightness, and are prized for how well they cut by the lapidary world. They are usually small in size but occasionally the rare large specimen can be found.
“ The name Moon Tears “
There is an ancient local legend , that the Moon fell in love with Indian chieftain. They spent much time together, entwining their hearts, but the moon could not stay with the chieftain because she had to return to the sky and light the night, She was so sad to leave her lover that she wept and wept , and her tears fell to the earth and turned solid becoming "Moon Tears”.

Talking to yourself or singing to yourself is so important to give critters a chance to avoid you. Although whip snakes will not care one bit, those cheeky buggers. Your videos are always so nice and calming. Thank you for sharing!
thank you for watching, I really enjoy your adventures ! always a very relaxing wander and some awesome finds !
Hello Nate. So good to be able to go on this hunt for the Lake County Diamonds with you! You sure found some beauties! I just loved seeing them in their host rock. The huge beaut of a specimen you found made the search all the more rewarding. You got the💎💎💎💎💎fever!!!!🤒😉☺️
😀yay!!! My very favorite treasure of all 💖💗💕 everything in this video was satisfying in so many ways..... thank you, thank you, for taking us on this fabulous treasure hunt! They are spectacular
Nice Finds! I would love to show you something incredible i have found near by that location. Thanks for sharing!
sounds cool, ... there are other things for sure.. got me wondering !
Thank you for an amazingly beautiful video! I went hunting for these with my husband over ten years ago; he wasn't able to get out and walk at the time so we kind of stuck to the roads. So all we found was little chips. I had no idea they could be this large! How I wish I could go back again and see the meadow and wildflowers.
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: I really appreciate your attitude of respect for the land, nature, and ownership boundaries. My 6th grade civics teacher reminded us daily.... in the USA we all have rights...but my rights end where another's begins. I always pictured it like this....we don't co-exist as free-floating spheres of rights...but...rather like kernals of corn fitting together on the cob. Like you said in a previous video....life is a balance between personal liberties and rules/laws. This is what builds strong societies. In a time of so much societal division....I wish more people understood my 6th grade teacher's teaching! Enough for my soap box philosophy.
NOW to the rocks...as a child my first diamond collection was pop bottle glass pieces that I kept in a cigabox. I upgraded to feldspars from the Arkansas river sand at age 5. By age 6 I discovered Mt. Ida quartz crystals from Arkansas...and I've never been the same! This video excites me so much I'm going to watch it twice now and save it in my library! Happy trails to you!!!
My grandparents had a summer house on Clear Lake; I never knew that these crystals were there. I'm past my hiking days, but I would love to purchase some of those.
That was wonderful. Everyone of them are beautiful. The music was good the surroundings you didn’t talk a lot about nothing. Five stars. Thank you very much. I am now a subscriber.
Hiya Nathan, dude! Those were some really big ones you found this time. Awesome video and I loved it, I really like longer videos especially when you go looking for those beauties.
I hope you and yours, have a awesome blessed weekend. Cya!
😺🐟 out!
Beta quartz. High temp and quick cooling. Diamond Flat and the upper Perini Road is loaded with them.
Nice finds. Years ago, Chapman's Gem museum had a bunch faceted. Good, clear ones facet nicely.
Love those Lake County Diamonds !
Thanks
That looks like fun!
You are a good man to remind everyone to take themselves and all that they bring, back out with them! All garbage, light footprints, and be respectful.❤
Salute! to the Alice's Restaurant lyric! big smile.
raised on the good stuff ,....... seeds planted, grown , and planting their own. : )
Just happen to be up...
I so have to plan a trip.
Very enjoyable watch.
It’s hard to find a spot like this in Lake County!!! I put in a week of nonstop hunting and only found little guys the entire time!!!!
I wish I knew where this was 🥺
Nice job gathering all those Lake County Diamonds/Quartz up Nate, they look great!
Awesome crystals
Congratulations on a great day!
Beautiful video. nice narration. thnx for your earth friendly reminders. happy hunting
Thank you for the lovely hunt and hike through your memories it was really fun and those beautiful moon tears, or lake co diamonds. They are really fabulous stones! And your ring proves how well they facet and the beautiful play of light as it passes through the stone and hits those facets. Quartz has such a high transparency and is so beautifully faceted. The example of that huge piece, still in the rock, is a fabulous look at where and how these particular stones come from. The whole day was relaxing, well it was for the viewer because you did all the work! Thank you so much for taking us along on this meander through your memories. The stones were so amazing and some really huge ones! And the pet wood piece that you found is really special. When youve only found two of them out there, they are truly special! Thanks for sharing this!
Love your respect for our earth. It is contagious. This was a new learning for me. Thanks
I love that ring, I want one now😆 Going to have to Google to see where to get one
they can be a little hard to find, I have a family friend about to open shop, they have a large collection, if you are still looking then I will be glad to introduce you, should be in the next few weeks.
@@QuestForDetails I would be very much interested. Thank you
@@QuestForDetails Do they have any public information for their shop now?
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: have to add second comment: this video just keeps getting better as it goes. Love the wild flower details. These crystals are likee "angel tears".... heavenly!
I made this comment before hearing the moon tears story...I like it better! Heavenly! Love the crystals in situ specimen. The earth has a finite number of mineral specimens in the crust as we know it. The ones it's making now are for a future millenia. Each one is a special momento of history gifted to us from our mother, Earth. Also, thank you for sharing your memories...I too started as a pebble pup...now I'm a fossil on my way to opalization.
So beautiful in their natural form but amazing when faceted. Looks like California ice. Epic adventure. Thank you so much for sharing.
These remind me of obsidian. A clear verity because of the way they Cleave. Love them.
FYI it’s not Quartz at all in actuality it’s the purest form of silicate known and not a Crystal either to wit as you said only Occurs here in LAKE COUNTY due to the volcanic nature of this area. These were made around 300,000 Y. A. DURING THE ERUPTIONS OF Mount Konocti and what is now clear Lake and is the result of caldera collapsing event and now you have the facts about LAKE COUNTY DIAMONDS 🤔🫵🏻👀🥸
Awesome nate
Well done! Great video. I wonder if a fire can start if the sun hits one juuuuust right.....? Very impressive stones, i want to come play.
Its wonderful to see the area re birthed. Here's hoping there are no fires this year.
I love the moment where you scooped them up over and over -love that ASMR noise
Hi Nate, just catching up on some videos, I am a bit behind with some of my subscribed rockhounds.
What a captivating video, so many great pieces from that location. I was just starting to wonder how they would look if they were faceted when you showed us the ring with the cut stone. It looks to have shine from all of those faces. Yes it was a longer video but I watched it through and enjoyed it all. Thanks Nate. Keep Safe & Keep Rockin
I luckily had enough free time to watch all of this video. I love how clear and clean they are, and the big one was unreal. Thanks for the video.
Hi Nate! Incredible! Will you show us what you've done with the beauties? Thank you for taking us with you. I enjoyed the meadow of your memories.
I lo e your video , âmzing.
Amazing cristals! Beautiful nature and landscape to...
I made it all the way thru. I love it I can sit and look thru my rocks for ever. Thanks
Thanks Nate ! Wow! Lake Counry might be my next destination. I've made it to the Sunstone Mine! I've been waiting to travel from your first video. Health and life got together and now I'm here. Thank you for giving me positive motivation. Oh yeah, you made me laugh and jump! 😆
Email me for spots in the area, it gets really hot, really 🔥 🥵, and lots of private land, but creeks rivers are jasper chert land and diamonds are here to. Glad your seeing the world! Happy trails to you!
i just saw two or three videos about proffesional jewelers creating fancy cuts/facets on gem stones. I think these are good stone candidates for cuts/ facets like that!
Bless your heart...I loved this long and detailed video...esp. your family experiences. My husband and I used to go rocking at Jawbone Canyon out of Mojave (in Calif.) wonderful memories! Please keep em comin'. Meg
I notice a HUGE improvement in the camera work!! Much more steady, better framing, good job!
So exciting to find treasure !
First time I've heard about them. I'll have to check my gem trails books of California to see if if they are mentioned in them.
awesome...!!!
Bom dia querido amigo! Tudo bem? Gosto de seus videos e de seu trabalho. Ai e um lugar abençoado!
