Did a tube shock conversion on my '46 Business Coupe. Had a similar issue with the dog bones and spring. Had to use the weight of the car to push the spring so it could line up. The kits have a longer bolt through the shackle to attach the shock. Creative idea with the weld on mount. Hope you got good penetration on the weld, because that will be a stress point and fold under lateral load in a turn. Go RAC, keep moving forward!
Kelly..encouragement..you are getting better and better..strength and balance will progress in time. I am sure there are perhaps many a young guy between 14-20 that could not do any better....some will never be better. To work with your hands well is a talent and a gift. 😊
Travis..when giving Kelley any instructions on driving or any other important matters, it will be better to not be 10 or 15 feet away shouting out instructions. Much better to walk up and face her with information. This will normally apply to any person and situation. Believe me, this is a good point to remember, but it must be practiced time and time again to become just doing it without having to think about it. 😊 I had to learn this too.
I think I would keep an eye on lower mount to make sure it is taking the stress after a few miles ... if it moves front to rear at all it could fatigue the weld ... should make a difference ...
I would have welded a bolt to the wishbone not the shackle that way if something fails it wont leave you looking for a tow. As a rule of thumb when installing nuts and bolts "nuts to the pilot" so in the rear the bolt points forward and on the front the bolt points to the rear. "nuts to the pilot.
Travis, what did you ever do with the ‘51??? Are you going to fix it up and sell it or have you gotten rid of it yet? Just curious…I love the ‘49 to ‘51 fords.

Kelly, very funny with your reaction when Travis went to get the hammer. 😊😊😊
Kudos for trying but that "just effing do it already!" while struggling with the radiator was surprisingly entertaining...
A lot of those kits use along bolt to the top bolt at the shackle
Shock the forty, shock the forty sung to "Shock the Monkey" is a song by the English rock musician Peter Gabriel. It was released in September 1982

At 2:28, is the frame rail cracked (vertical) a couple of inches in front of the brake line tab mount??
No just a drip from brake fluid or something not a crack but I’ll double check it. No reason why it would crack there
