  • *UPDATE (Sept 2021): One of these vintage escalators has been preserved! The rest of the escalators have all been replaced into Schindler 9300 when the building was renovated.
    Amazing vintage 1960's Hitachi escalators that have stood the test of time. These are just so damn EPIC and VERY RARE! It's amazing to see these escalators are still in good condition for over fifty years, and have miraculously survived from the 1984 fire. These are said to be the FIRST escalators installed in Indonesia. Also look at that very old looking Hitachi logo; that is just awesome and rare!
    An interesting thing I read from one online source, is that the store is now preserving these escalators for historical reasons. That explains why they haven't been replaced which is really good, and I really hope that they will not replace them with boring modern escalators that definitely won't last for long. The only thing that is not original here is the addition of energy saving feature which slows down the escalators when no one is using them.
    This video includes a ride of all the vintage escalators, from the ground floor up to 4th floor and back down again. Didn't even bother to film the newer OTIS units on the 4th-5th floor as they are so boring as f•••!
    Yes I know that I've uploaded a video of these escalators before which was recorded by TG97Elevators, but I decided to film these by my own (for the first time) to show you a better look of the escalators. For me, it was worth enough filming these historic escalators, as you would never know what will happen to them in the future. Who knows that they would still be here until 2064!
    • Brand: Hitachi
    • Installed by: PT. Sarang Teknik
    • Runs from-to (floors): G-UG, UG-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and vice versa
    • Year installed: 1964*
    • Layout: Criss cross
    • History: Original, except for minor modifications like the addition of energy saving feature
    *54 years old at time of filming! Probably the OLDEST escalators I've ever filmed so far.

    Expecting these escalators to live until 2064.. But it is too late, since one of them has removed.
    I hope AT LEAST one escalator will be museumized somewhere in Indonesia (or even in "Sarinah museum" itself.)

      Indeed, they've managed to preserve one of the narrow width units in the podium which is very good. The management must be very aware of the building's historic stuffs.

    Is this escalator on sarinah the oldest escalator in Indonesia?

  • @cjermia1

    It seems that the 1984 fire either didn't burn the escalator or somehow these escalators are fire-resistant, so that the escalator have no fire marks until now.
    I am curious if the former elevators are Hitachi, or 60s OTIS just like the typical Soekarno's project. What's clear now is they are now d*** Lousers :(
    but, wasn't these escalators being installed in 1964? The video that you uploaded from TG97 says it in the description.

    • @idl3k_elev
      @idl3k_elev  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Based on old pictures I found on Google, it seems that the 1984 fire only damaged the top floors of the tower, leaving the store's lower floors unaffected. That might explains why the escalators are still in good condition without any traces of fire damage. Not sure about the elevators before the 1990s OTIS though; they could've been OTIS or even Hitachi since those two companies have been around the country since the 1960s. At least the Louser mods aren't really disappointing. All the passenger elevators now have touch sensitive buttons, and the tower's passenger elevators now talks.
      I was wrong about the escalators were installed in 1964. It's actually 1966 according to the store's website. The construction of the building began in 1962 but was halted by the crisis until four years later.

      Well it turns out that these escalators were indeed from 1964. An undisclosed technician told me these were installed in 1964 based on the specification plaque inside the escalators. I've updated the title and the thumbnail.

      The OTIS ones upstairs are pure rubbish from PRC that definitely won't last for long compared to these priceless vintages which were built to last long.

    Damn, this is much older than O&K escalators in former King Plaza Bandung

      I think those O&K escalators were from the 1980s. Very shame that they got perished by the 2014 fire.

    • @youcanpunchmeintheface
      @youcanpunchmeintheface 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jonny Doman it is said that there are some surviving O&K escalators, one is in Surabaya but I'm not sure.

    • @idl3k_elev
      @idl3k_elev  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is one O&K unit still remains in GoSkate Building, Surabaya which was installed in 1979 (it is said to be the first escalator in the city). That's the only one I know still left in Indonesia. There used to be another two units in Pasar Atum Surabaya (from 1986) but they have been horribly replaced with stupid OTIS XO-508 units.

    • @jonnydoman1338

    Gile itu eskalator udah jadul tapi masih bagus kondisinya.

    • @idl3k_elev
      @idl3k_elev  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Meski kelihatan jadul, kualitasnya lebih bagus dan tahan lama daripada eskalator jaman sekarang yang kebanyakan pada dibuat di China. Sama halnya dengan lift tua vs lift baru.

    • @jonnydoman1338
      @jonnydoman1338 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm benar juga ya. Kualitas jaman sekarang kayak menurun gitu dibandingin jaman dulu.

    • @idl3k_elev
      @idl3k_elev  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Betul banget itu. Inilah kenapa kebanyakan pecinta lift lebih suka dengan lift tua/jadul (sebelum era 1990an) soalnya selain dianggap lebih bagus kualitasnya dan lebih tahan lama, lift jadul dianggap lebih berkarakter dibandingkan dengan lift modern jaman sekarang. Orang-orang di komunitas pecinta lift merasa lift jaman sekarang itu sama aja dengan lift serupa dan lebih membosankan dibandingkan lift jadul. Selain itu, lift jadul juga terkadang mempunyai nilai sejarah, apalagi jika lift itu berada di gedung bersejarah.
      Btw kok gw jadi bicara soal lift ya padahal ini sebenarnya video eskalator wkwkwk....

      @Orisa: Gw nggak tau yang GoldStar itu apakah tambahan atau penggantian dari eskalator yang sebelumnya, tapi yang jelas itu eskalator dipasang di awal 1990an ketika lift penumpangnya diganti jadi OTIS dan lift barangnya diganti jadi GoldStar (menurut project list nya Jaya Kencana). Oh, di luar sama di restoran Chilis juga ada eskalator Hyundai tahun 1990an loh.

      Gw juga sebenarnya penasaran sama dua eskalator OTIS yang ada di lantai 4-5 itu, apakah tambahan atau penggantian dari eskalator Hitachi jadul. Itu eskalator katanya TG agak lebih berisik dari yang Hitachi.
