  • Join House Mother Jocelyn Milan of the House of Milan, and some very special guests, including RR Chanel, Alyssa Ebony, and Luna Khan, for a dynamic discussion on the history of Ballroom culture in New York City. Panelists will be showing clips they’ve selected from Jennie Livingston’s 1990 documentary film, Paris Is Burning, and discussing the role that ballroom houses play in the upbringing of marginalized queer youth through the formation of chosen families.
Presented in partnership with New Pride Agenda and BAAD! [The Bronx Academy of Arts & Dance].

SO GOOD to see Luna again!!!! It's been YEARS since I've seen him!!!!!! He is iconic! I used to go to balls back in the 80's. I had no idea that I was witnessing history being made!!!! I look back on those memories fondly now. (ALSO, the piers!!! I remember seeing people with boom boxes voguing for the first time and being like, "What is that???" Then went to a ball and was like Alice in the looking glass!

I think it’s messed up that there are so much hate coming from the community itself from the comments I’m seeing. How can we expect the rest of the world to accept us if we can’t accept each other. I never been a part of the ballroom but I appreciated the culture. Whether we like it or not, ballroom is the gateway why the LGBTQ community gets more awareness and through that awareness the world is slowly trying to understand and realize that we exist and we matter. And I understand there are other gateways for that but we can’t deny that they were a huge chunk of it.
Also, I’ve learned so much from the panels. If you haven’t learned anything then you’re just not listening nor even interested in learning anything.
Alyssa Ebony, this is the first time knowing and hearing you and I became a huge fan. So graceful and smart.

Gays say that but then will be like “no fems” and refuse to date another flamboyant queen like themselves. Every gay dude I know wants to be the effeminate counterpart to a masculine man who never comes so they stay single get high and drunk.

I am the "L" in the LGBTQ community. This community has come a very long long long way and apparently from the comments i have read, we still have a long way to go. I celebrate every color in the rainbow all year round. I have love and respect for every single letter in the LGBTQ community. We have enough problems with the rest of the "world" not accepting us, now, we no longer have to ask to be accepted, we are here. I can't understand why there is hatred among us when we are all in this community together. Our Trans have it worse because they are being murdered like they are nothing. Without the past, there would be no future. They fought to be seen and heard, paved the way for every one of US in this Community. It's a shame to be disrespectful just like the the ones "outside" of our community who have no understanding of what any of US have gone through or are going to go through because the fight isnt over until the killings stop and total acceptance begins all over the entire world.

I am gay and want nothing to do with alphabet city which like most groups are rarely created by the actual group but by a pureblood group who promotes diversity in every other culture but doesn't practice it themselves and they have also been kicked out of every country for their usury practices. Being gay is nothing to be proud of. Most are damaged souls suffering from trauma and living dead end hedonist and narcissist lifestyles of drugs and debauchery!

I think it's obviously more of a case of you not comprehending (voluntarily or due to ignorance) what they are saying. Always respect your elders. Always respect those who came before you. Stop playing in the shallow end and learn to go deep. Learn to listen, and if you're lucky, your community will respect you further down the road.

How about changing the definition of “being on Point”. The pettiness of RR is ridiculous and there’s much bigger things to be concerned with. Talking about not walking because someone’s skin isn’t perfect, child please!!! If you look closely at the people’s skin in original ballroom, they didn’t have perfect skin and they all had flaws. Like we all do. We ALL have flaws, let’s accept it and celebrate our natural selves instead of glamorizing an unrealistic standard of beauty that only hurts people, causes eating disorders, people to get botched plastic surgery and to have low self esteem. RR, you’ve been chopped! BYE!

Really. The past, really not grow the future. This is like shady pines is not accepting it's demize. Vogue and all of Paris is burning is crumbling. This is almost a big waste of time. Good luck.
