These are the regular lives lived within large families. I am the oldest and had 4 brothers and 6 sisters. We put on shows, played sports and were extremely creative. Every dinner was like most normal families Thanksgiving. No dishwasher until i was in college. I got a scholarship because we had such a big family and good grades.

This is definitely a problem. I got told this so many times in elementary school when I would consult a teacher and the only thing they would ever do is tell me they have a crush on me. This is a problem, and made me realize that teachers will not help you in a bully situation.

I saw someone say this on tik tok and I think its true. They said stop saying that when a girl or boy is mean to you it means they like you because its normalizing domestic violence. ITS SO TRUE because if you tell a young child that when people are mean to you it means they like you they will start to interpret signs of violence as love. "Oh that boy is so mean to me it must mean that they like me" Those kids will go their entire lives believing that violence is a way to express your affection and it will take so much time to unlearn it.

I 100% feel Coleen's pain when she used to have anxiety when sleeping over at other people's houses. I remember having a great time but once the lights went out I would FREAK out. I think it's just certain ages where if we are away from our parents we can feel scared or we just don't trust the friend's parents enough.

schools seem to care more about the bully and their improvement than the well-being of the victim/victims

    • @Melon_Cloud
      @Melon_Cloud 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Yes! And when the victim (finally) stands up to the bully, the victim is punished! This happens so/too often! Which is so incredibly wrong. Do they not notice the real bullies? Especially if the victim finally stands up to them after a long time.. Do the teachers and school in general, not notice all the bullying that went on before this moment? How do they just only happen to see the moment the victim stands up for themselves and thus punish the victim? And not let the victim explain. Or let them explain and still punish. I really don’t understand. How can they not notice? I know bullies can be very sneaky, but still! And even if the bully is not sneaky, this still happens!.. Unbelievable!

In prison, belts are taken away (for obvious reasons) and men would often have to wear assigned trousers that were too big. This translated to “the streets” and rap culture, then became a trend picked up by a wider crowd (including kids), often not probably not knowing the origins of the fashion!

I *LOVE* that you brought up sibling bullying!!!
Me & my sister are 1 Y & 6M apart (she's older) and she used to bully me *a lot* when we were younger (on top of the kids at school bullying me. She & I are close but only in a "family way", not in an emotional way (if that makes any sense) but I'm okay with our relationship now even though she wishes we were closer
I was bullied all throughout school but it was @ it's worse during high school! I agree with this new age of bullying is a whole different world, especially being online. Shit is crazy! Thank you so much for brining this topic up this episode!!!!

The topic of bullying and haters hits home with so many people. Too many, IMO. It’s sad to think about people bringing others down for whatever reason. It definitely helps when you have a good, positive support system. ❤️

the friends being bullies thing is SO TRUE. i had one friend in middle school talk about how we both have such fat thighs" and i spent the next 25 years of my life thinking my thighs were fat :( unfortunately family can do the same thing - so sad that you never know the impact until much later

I've left school a couple years ago now but I was bullied through all my years at school and when I got a phone it became 10x worse. It just meant that I didnt get a break when I got home, got bullied to my face in school and then online when I got home as well as online in school, which is one reason why we weren't allowed phones in school but it wouldn't stop it from happening. Since leaving school, I just ignore people online and just try and live my best life ❤️

My bully had been my best friend for 3 years then all the sudden she decided she hated me and started spreading rumors amongst our friend group and other people at school, had random people call me and leave me really nasty voicemails, posts online, making rude faces and gestures in class, etc. Tormented me for a year and a half or so. And here’s the kicker, now she’s a high school counselor 🤣

I remember bullying growing up and all of the adults just brushed it off saying it was a part of life and boys to stand up for themselves and fight. I stood up for myself in elementary school and it stopped but you’re right, when we were growing up it was all about D.A.R.E. And the food pyramid.

I was also bullied by a teacher in Adult ED school...the teacher's main source of test taking was "Verbal", so he would call you to his desk and ask you the test questions outloud and not just quietly, but loudly and then you would answer and in the event that you got the answer wrong, he would make fun of you AND encourage your fellow classmates to assist him in making fun of you for not knowing the answer.... I remember my last time in his class-- he made me feel very stupid for not understanding something and he said to me LOUDLY "Are you kidding me? You don't know this?" And he asked a fellow classmate "You know this right?" And the classmate laughed and said yeah and the entire class and the teacher laughed at me and one classmate called me stupid....and I started crying and he then told me if I didn't like his way of test taking then I can leave and so I picked up my things and left for good his class....

Okayyyyy guys.. Only some of the eggs at McDonald's are microwaved lol I used to work there. Unless something has drastically changed in the last 7 years which is possible. The sausage egg mcmuffin and egg mcmuffin have real eggs cracked into a circle on the grill. The egg white delight is carton egg whites. The microwaved eggs are the folded eggs on the biscuit items and the mcgriddles. Long story short ask to sub round egg on every sandwhich to get fresh eggs! "Round egg" is a fresh cracked egg that is cracked into a "mold" on the grill as mentioned above😊

I think Erik could have been joking here but at 24:03 when Colleen mentions that someone who bullied her in school dumped her in a trash can once, Erik says “maybe he had a crush on you.” I think this is a very skewed way of thinking that erases/excuses toxic masculinity. We have to remove the idea that men behave rudely with women that they are interested in. This kind of thinking allows us to excuse men’s inappropriate behaviour.

I think bullying is actually far better now, in spite of the internet factor. It used to be completely normal for kids to get the absolute crap beaten out of them, all of the time. Adults would never help, other kids would never befriend the bullied kids. That just isn't the norm anymore at all. Cyber bullying definitely sucks but things are much better now than they used to be.

I think the physical bullying is probably less accepted in many places, but the fact that the bullying doesn't end when school does and follows you home day and night, on the weekends, on the school breaks etc for sure has an impact on the mental state of young people now days.

I had two friends in high school that didn’t bully me really but would make the comments about my mental issues, and how I wasn’t smart, etc. 5 years later, I’m dealing with a lot of self confidence issues and it was just pointed out to me recently that they were awful friends. Crazy to see how things were years later. I was in a toxic relationship with them and I just realized. Luckily I haven’t talked to them since we graduated and I’m a bit happier.

I had an awful science teacher. This one day he announced we would be disecting frogs. I had frogs as pets back then. So the thought of cutting this poor thing had me in tears. The thing that upset me most was that all of those frogs were still living that morning. There were 35 frogs killed that day in the name of science?? When I started to get really upset he (my teacher) told me 'if I would quit being a little baby then we could get this over with." I told him there is no way I'm cutting into that frog.
He said get out then! Go to talk to the dean's office.
I grabbed all of my stuff and left as quickly as possible.
It gets worse... My friend that stayed in class said that a few of the frogs still had beating hearts. 💔🐸💔🐸💔
