Ursula and Triton were supposed siblings in the original movie too actually, they even have a scrapped song which explains that king Triton had "a witch of a sister".
They've done this whole "Evil Auntie Ursula" thing several times now....I hope in this movie they explain why Ursula is a different species to her merperson family

I think the brother/sister relationship was an added detail in the musical. I can't remember if it was a possibility in the animation that they cut out, but definitely know it was in the musical. Based on what I already know behind the scenes of the animation and details of the musical, the live action movie encompasses both the animation and the Broadway musical along with some of its own originality.

There _is_ still a remnant of the Ursula/Triton siblings plotline in the 1989 film. Ursula's first scene. "In _my_ day, we had fantastical feasts when _I_ lived in the palace." It was also in the novelization. Without giving too much away, Ursula plays to Ariel's lack of a mother figure to manipulate her (the scene here where she speaks through Flotsam and Jetsam's bubble being the best evidence so far for this). Though I'm not certain if the plotline will appear in the final cut of the movie, the script told the story of what happened to her mother....and the role another character may or may not have had in it. _Wink, Wink_

I thought she was losing weight? She looks the same as she did before her last weight loss phase. Looks like she gained it all back. How sad; I thought she was really going to do it this time. In her People magazine interview recently she was saying stuff like, 'Own who you are...accept yourself...it would be weird if we all looked the same', all those self-soothing mantras that overweight people say to feel better about themselves.

Ursula is Triton’s sister in the Broadway musical as well…which came out it like 2008.
