this choke is illegal because you could easily hurt someone with this. The pressure to the left of the neck, right at the spinal cord. effective? yes? Easily you could hurt a training partner.
These are the videos I love to watch. Watching high level black belts problem solve, and watching them work through something that is exciting for them.
I may be late to the party and you guys post discussion and problem solving vids like this all of the time, but this is my first time seeing one. Seeing this type of thinking modeled is as important as technique tutorials. Thanks!!!
Cheers Keenan and the other black belt who’s name I don’t know. Really enjoyed that bottom side submission and the reversal/Americana option too - I watched this video a ton of times yesterday afternoon then went in to open mat last night and hit the reversal on everyone - even higher belts. The sub worked on a coupe of less experienced guys so will try to tighten up the set up tonight and hopefully add it to my arsenal. Thanks for the content - love the informal, relaxed approach you have with these instructionals.
Also, Kennan is a growin' boy. We're gonna have to get him an adult sized gi soon. Also also: that arm bar/choke from bottom is amazing and it's really cool seeing you all work through applying it under different scenarios.
Ooohhh.... My buddy is brown belt and former D1 wrestler and ALWAYS ends up passing my guard to 100kilos (sie control). That reach-through figure-four attack from bottom is getting utilized next time we roll!!! So sneaky!!
Very cool, especially the rear naked on the triceps. The choke the purple belt was showing is called the “Buggy” or “Bunny” choke, but I wonder how much strain that puts on your own knees
It's called flytrap and I use it all the time. You need somewhat long legs but you don't need to be very flexible. I can't do the lotus position but the flytrap is easy for me.
6.4.9 When an athlete grabs the inside of the opponent’s gi top or pants, when he steps inside the Gi jacket and and when an athlete passes a hand through the inside of the opponent’s gi to grip the external part of the gi. However, this says nothing about passing the arm through the gi to grip something other than an external part of the gi. Example, passing through back of jacked to cup the head, or to gable grip for a shoulder lock.
Gonna try to catch some higher belts from bottom side control this week lol. I feel it's even more scummy than an ezequiel from inside their closed guard.
all positions in the video are illegal????? first and second position are AWESOME im gonna use it for sure! the one the purple belt set up i usually use it, but some training partners said that is not a 100% choking position but its very effective though
I'm a filthy no-gi for life sweatboi, can someone explain what's illegal with these particular pyjama moves? How are these collar chokes not allowed, but others are?
I'm pretty sure that is clickbait. I've trained to for 10 years (brown belt) and see nothing illegal, except perhaps when Keenan shifted his elbow and made it more of a neck crank. And even that is questionable.

Keenan was talking about him tapping to the first choke... ¿does someone know where and when it took place? wow I´ve never seen that choke being used in competition... it´s soooo gonna get added to my arsenal now that everyone is defending my papercutter choke.. buajajajaja
There is a video of Pedro Sauer showing that choke from top. He is doing a bread cutter choke. When the person has the arm close to defending, you take your non choking arm under his then over your choking arm. It makes the choke a lot tighter.
@@fritzdagger Woodmansee taught you the force choke but not that reverse grip papercutter choke? I learned that from him a year ago at a seminar. He's holding out on you!
So are the Jiu-Jitsu moves in this video illegal? And if YES in which organisations and where around the world if knowlegable by anyone? Thank You God, was it so difficult. Peace Out!!!!!!!
The figure four choke from side control bottom at about 4.30 (and again at 10.20) is actually not a functional choke. If Keenan had simply stepped to north south position the choke would have disappeared completely. It looks cool, and feels awful (it also becomes like a bicep slicer depending upon where the bottom guy locks it) when you just stay in the position on top, but it really doesn't work.

There is a legal way to do the force choke if you use the bottom of the lapel on the same side and go around the back of his neck before you grab it.
