    I have both. Like em both. Got the Metal Zone 2 and Blues Driver, TS 808, MXR Classic OD and flipped the inner switch to the Zach Wylde tone and the Rat pedal then the NOTAKLON Pedal. Last one is the line 6 DM 4. Love em all. Cool demo thanks.

    This is how I would explain my DS-1X
    There are videos where people say "you're using the DS-1 wrong" and they offer suggestions on how to "use it like the pros"
    Those usually start with something like "a lot of you buy a DS-1 thinking you'll plug it into a clean amp and get a cool distorted tone, but first you need to understand what this pedal was actually designed to do and then I'll explain how the issue might be with your amp setup and pedal placement ..." ETC
    With the DS-1X, you really can just plug it straight into the front of a clean solid state amp and get all manner of useable distorted sounds from it.
    If you're a pedal/amp pro, then naturally you'll be able to do a few tricks like knowing the how and why of scooping mids or using the distortion pedal as a clean boost.
    But, if you don't know much about how pedals and amps work, this pedal does what you thought your first distortion pedal was going to do. It just wants to help you.

    D1x sounds & looks like the mt-2 metal zone. Nice compressed distortion much easier 2 play, but as a beginner I'd prefer D1 for the vintage feel; requiring more working the notes so to learn mastering the fretboard w bends, vibrato, hammer ons etc. Keeping the tone left of noon on D1 helps alot. Both sound good though.

    Just found you man. I just bought the ds1x I liked it so much and I usually don't like digital products for electric guitar being that I'm 60 years old and have always used analogue stuff all my life for the most part, but this ds1x is so clear sounding and yet great distortion it just sounds better. The regular ds1 I thought was too woofy, although still good. The newer ds1x has better harmonics, etc. 🤘♥️🤘♥️🤘

      Thanks for watching man!
      Isn’t it surprisingly a great pedal. Literally instant gratification.
      I agree with your description. DS1X is my pick.

    Thank you for this great comparison ❤
    Edit: I searched for this because I had in mind the DS-1X sounds better and I still have this opinion.

    Hey, thanks for the comparison video. I have used a normal ds1 for my driven sound for about 25 years! I think the classic unit has a somewhat spongy sound compared to the ds1x version. Ds1x sounds more defined and sharp to me. They both have their own places. 😎

    The digital is awesome my band mate uses one while all the ds1 boss pedals I’ve used never can reach that level of distortion and much better from rhythm overall

    I own a MIT DS-1 from the mid 90's, and the DS-1w and the DS-1x. The standard mode of the DS-1w sound nearly identical to the origional DS-1. The custom mode gives a nice boost to the mids while retaining the grittiness of the DS-1. I think the DS-1 and DS-1w are best suited classic songs where the grittiness of the DS-1 is more appropreiate. The DS-1x has a nice full sound the doesn't quite have the clarity of the DS-1. The tone controls are superior on the DS-1x, and I believe the this pedal is more suited to a more modern genre. All of them are great pedals, depending on your style of playing would determine the pedal you want.

    Ive been using a DS1 for 25 years and just learned about the 1x about a month ago. Was pretty convinced the 1x would be the upgrade I'm looking for with the extra EQ band, but after watching this I still prefer the DS1 tone qualities for my grunge-y playstyle. Does anyone have any recommendations for that dirty analog DS1 quality but with extra EQ band(s) other than the 1x?

      Try looking into the DS-1 Waza Craft. It has the original as well the newer “modernised” version.
      I do have a vid on that as well, but there’s obviously heaps on here. 🤘🏼

      @@DaveWebbMusic Its amazing. I think it works really well in a clean channel of a valve amp. I'm after the fuzz factory and MXR EVH flanger. Both pedals i had years ago but they broke after 15 years.

      Did you see BOSS announced the DD-1W, a new Waza Craft version! Can’t wait to get my hands on one of those.

    It's hard to judge the sound when you play different riffs each time u switch pedals. It would've been much more useful if you had played the same riff twice. Once theu each pedal.

    • @DaveWebbMusic
      @DaveWebbMusic  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s exactly I did. Same riff, once through each pedal.

    How did you make these sound bad?

    • @DaveWebbMusic
      @DaveWebbMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I can see on your channel, you use single coils. I use Humbuckers.
      These pedals are renowned for ‘preferring’ single coils.
      So I’m guessing that’s why you didn’t like the sounds I was getting.

    • @HiAxl
      @HiAxl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DaveWebbMusic I use humbuckers mainly actually. In fact the guitar in our videos had a humbucker put into it recently. I usually do HSS or HH setup. And my experience is that the DS-1 works great with both. You pretty much need to have the tone at 12 o clock though. You can’t really go more than a hair past 12 o clock and you certainly should roll it back. Maybe try rolling back your guitar’s tone knob a bit.

    • @DaveWebbMusic
      @DaveWebbMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HiAxl Well there ya go. There is definitely a sweet spot on the pedal, that's for sure.
      Rolling the tone sounds like a good idea.
      I'll give that a go.

    • @HiAxl
      @HiAxl ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DaveWebbMusic The DS1x sounded good in your vid. It was just weird how the DS1 didn’t sound right. What kind of guitar and wood are you using?

    • @DaveWebbMusic
      @DaveWebbMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a Gibson Les Paul Custom. Mahogany body, maple top, Gibson humbuckers.
      I don’t remember what amp I played into though.
      I definitely favour the DS1X, but the original of course has its place. Maybe my ‘style’ of playing doesn’t gel with it.
