so is your business plan to discontinue all the analog OD/Dist boxes and replace them with digital ones while at the same time keeping only the respective Waza versions analog? If so, that's a lousy move towards the customers
Just found your channel, I've been wanting to order this pedal for weeks, I ordered one yesterday (18th Dec '22) and have been worrying if I've done the right thing...... then I found this video and I now know I have, thank you 👌🏻🤟🏻
This was the first demo video I clicked on! Always impressed by your tone and playing man! I’m really glad BOSS put this out. The DS1 is such a fun pedal to mess with, I really dug the custom mode! Thanks for sharing with us!
I've used a Klon clone, an Electra DIY circuit, a Bogner Ecstasy Blue, plug-in sims, multi-FX patches, and I got to say, this actually sounds like what I'm looking for. Well-done Boss.
I'd love to see you compare to the DS-2 because the turbo mode on that is just a mid boost...so a fair comparison to see if the price difference is worth it. When I used to have a DS-2 I never ever liked the standard scooped mode...always had the turbo switch on..
Sounds damn good. I've still got my metal zone and ds1. I love the metal zone for metal, but I like the ds1 for EVERYTHING. This new waza ds1 pretty much checks all the boxes. Nice demo man.
Damn! I played a lot with DS-1s in the 90's and 2000's. And none sounded so good as this. Once more: It's not (only) the pedal. Is the guitarist! This pedal is in the wishlist. Cheers!
Um. I was thinking the same thing. Gotta be the sound of the pushed amp that is the cornerstone of Paul's tone. The square wave DS-1 never sounded like this to me into something clean. Feeling like this could work first in line pushing another pedal that is overdriving as well. Great demo.
Some lesser guitarist took a swing at you? Well, with playing like yours there’s bound to be jealousy. You are a phenomenal player. Brilliant technique, yet always tasteful.
Good vid.. I’ve been using my original DS-1 for almost 3 decades now and it’s been with me on every tour, gig and studio sessions… I’m planning on buying the DS-1 Waza also as soon as it’s available over here in The Netherlands cause the sound is absolutely amazing and put it next to my original DS-1 and put it on Custum mode so I can switch between my original DS-1 and the Waza version when needed..
@@TheStudioRats, yeah… I basically use the same pedals as Mike Stern, which I found out later when after seeing him live. Lovely guy, great to hang out with and a fantastic musician of course. But back to the DS-1 Waza: I was super excited when I heard about it a few weeks ago and the Custom mode definitely fit in my style of playing.. Haven’t bought a new pedal for ages cause I’m like “if this works for you, why changing or buying anything”, but the DS-1 Waza will definitely add a new dimension which I’m pretty excited about. Found out yesterday it’s available in The Netherlands right now and immediately ordered it…
Loved the sound of the Fender with it a lot more than the Suhr tone with it. I don’t usually like higher gain distortion pedals, but that’s a good one.
Excellent review! The sound quality of your recording is amazing! I was considering getting the DS-1W and your video pretty much sold me on it. Just subscribed to your channel.
I want to know what the big difference is between the DS-1X and this Waza? I’d like to hear a comparison as well if at all possible. I have yet to find one in a store to find out for myself.
I know you do gear and tone videos but would really love a lesson on all these cool chords you have in your arsenal! At the 3 minute mark in this video, those chords!!
They're add9 chords. It's kind of a power chord shape - index finger on the root note, middle finger on the 5th, but with the pinky grabbing the 2nd four frets higher than the index finger on the root note. It's a bit of a stretch as the fingers are spread two frets apart (an Aadd9 can be played with the index on string 6 fret 5, middle on string 5 fret 7, and the pinky on string 4 fret 9). Andy Summers of The Police plays these chords famously on "Message in a Bottle."
@@mcmillanalex Cheers dude. Yeah I watched this video, went and mimicked the chord shapes myself and realised they're exactly like that exact police song that I can play, badly 😂 great stretching excersise
I’ve tried so many fuzz pedals and just can’t stand how loose they sound. Thinking about buying a ds1 to put after my ts808 and before my Bd2. I hear you can get some pretty sweet fuzz tones without being so loose like my ex
GREAT video!!! very helpful. Can you please do a vide on how you're recording? your sound is awesome and it will be great to learn how you produce it, specifically how you video yourself play and record the tracks and play it for us on youtube. good job again, great video.
What amp setup was used for this demo? I apologize if this was addressed and I missed it. If it wasn’t addressed: why not? Everything sounded great- as usual. But…the overall signal chain is important, so we know exactly what we are hearing in context. The full signal chain should always be fully detailed- if not, demos such as this are not very useful.
Hey i bought your starter pack for boss gx100 loved it! My sound on stage is just awesome. Question though, on that pack does the global settings included on that?
Excellent as always Paul thanks. A question of interest what and who’s tracks have you played on previously . As I think I’ve heard your playing before. Best wishes Kimball
I’m not a big distortion guy, but it sounds good. I generally prefer lower gain crunch OD pedals rather than distortion. So I’ll probably stay with the Protein, Hot Cake, or maybe an Ultra Phonix
I've had used a DS-1 before, that I found a bit brittle, due to the mid scoop. Then I discovered the CmatMods Brownie that is very versatile. You can get real awesome brown sound distortion tones by tweaking the controls a bit. Cheers !
killer playing! Don't know if you were given this pedal, if so you might want to mention that, so people are aware. Apologies if I missed it. I was busy listening to the killer licks!
Killer bud this… and I love how you have single handidly put the rumour to bed that a DS1 sounds shit… you know exactly how to use one and man your tones are unreal! Getting one of these simply for a fat lead tone on that custom mode!… It’s always confused me that people hate on the DS1… every time I’ve played one it sounds killer as long as you get the tone control right and normally put it into a crunchy sound or at least stacked with something to emulate a dirty amp… The tone control is crazy powerful, actually adds bass and takes away treble to the left and the opposite happens to the right??
I see you’ve still got it.😮 I think I can take you. I’m only 22 years older. But I think I can! Unless you throw some of those unconventional chords at me.
I see what you’re trying to do there Rob, unfortunately for you I’m not feeling the response your obviously sad little life wanted to evoke. Thanks for the compliment.
I long ago grew tired of comments like this on TH-cam Just be nice, if you don’t have anything positive to say just move on and watch something else maybe?
I wish Boss will offer this with some color options, I can't stand the hideous orange layout. I've got the 40th Anniv edition for that reason. It does sound good, however. nothing really like it.
The standard mode is pretty much useless. If you want the standard mode just get the the crappy regular DS-1.The custom mode is great and fixed what was crap about the old one.
It's very shrill and produces alot of unnecessary white noise that's audible. I sold it. Get a mxr superbadass distortion with 3 band EQ and you are off to the races
Nice one, Paul - excellent demo. Your sounds are second to none.
Cheers Boss!

@@scottnoricsson2023 I believe it’s still all analog circuit. Maybe I’m wrong?
Definitely a sneaky good pedal that defies a lot of expectations. That said, HOLY SMOKES that Fender with those P90s is just incredible.
The DS-1 and SD-1 are so good with Marshalls
Came for the review of a pedal, ended up trying to steal some licks 😁

I use BD2 running into DS1 they complement each other perfectly .
Hmm, what do you set your knobs to?
BD2 at 10 o'Clock and DS1 2 o'Clock
nice tip.
That sounds ace
Custom mode... Sound like DS-2. Love it.
Just discovered your channel, absolutely beautiful playing! Hoping you can do more Axe FX videos, the tones you get from it are insane.
Will do, cheers Analog.
Boss must be revving up the advertising. 3rd demo in the last 24 hrs for a pedal that came out 8 years ago.

Similar to the Keeley mod? I use the MXR Custom 78 that has the crunch setting based on that mod. I wonder!
The mxr 78 is a killer pedal. Under the radar.

Why do I not recall this pedal sounding this good?!?!?
Fresh shiner on there

Should have told us what amp its plugged into!
Sounds great Paul!
Nice lead playing
This...actually sounds...really good. Unexpected.
The DS1 was my first pedal at 14yrs old in '84. Before I even bought a proper amp (plugged into a 1960's radiogram).
Did the radiogram survive?
I thought they did the Waza for the DS; I guess not.
great playing, sounds great
Nice. Sounds really smooth
So, is that just the pedal with out any other effects? Like a raw sound? Can hear some reverb, but hoping the rest is raw?
Great video!
Can it do low drive boost like an early Jonny Buckland type of sound or Gilmour on Animals? I bet this would also do Oasis pretty well.
Hello Paul , Fab review would this pedal be effective through a Fender blues junior tube amp, played with a Gretsch G510T rat rod . Thank you .
5:57 that tone 👏👏👏

Question - what is a mid-scope?
What amp and microphone did you use to record this?
Iwas using an Axe FX 3 for this demo.
Thought I saw you at the Ariel Posen gig the other evening but it was so hot in the Boiler Room I could have been mistaken….great sounding pedal btw
Hi Andrew I was there. Damn that boy can play.
Does the standard mode on the ds1w sound exactly the same as the current ds1? Thank you.
Hey i bought your starter pack for boss gx100 loved it! My sound on stage is just awesome. Question though, on that pack does the global settings included on that?
Did you get into a fight? Lol.. nice demo
Hey Paul, just curious to know why you have removed the screws from the locking saddles? Is it a sound thing or just for convenience?
It’s just convenience, if im honest I don’t even know why they bothered putting them in there. The trem us incredibly stable.
Excellent as always Paul thanks. A question of interest what and who’s tracks have you played on previously . As I think I’ve heard your playing before.
Best wishes

Hi Kimball, Ive played on quite a few tracks but most of the work ive done is as a producer/ guitarist on tracks in Japan, Korea, and Europe.
Killer Sound
Great demo. What amp (and channel) did you use?
I used an Sxe FX 3
Another must have 😅

Dude, I need this pedal. How many watts is it? Is it Gibson compatible? Is it gig bag friendly? Asking for a friend
Its 30 doigle watts, deffo Gibbo compatibility apart from Gibson prototypes that were never released, and only gig bags over 78 years old.

Great playing, Paul! Hey did you get punched in the left eye or something?!?!?!
Cheers, no I fell over on some steps.
Can you recommend this unit with your whole of your heart mr Studio rat?
Yeah it’s great, as I said the original DS1 is not my choice of pedal as I don’t like mid scooped tones but the WAZA is great.
the ds 1 sounds the best with a tube amp already cooking the tubes. if run into a straight clean channel, it tends to sound thin.
what happened to your eye?
CUSTOM MODE
like metal zone transformed to metal core
The regular mode isn’t mid scooped. Its just doesn’t have a big mid bump.
Seems like the tone is still the biggest issue with the pedal. In your video you don't go over 50% on your tone knob.
What's it like to have every single thing you play sound like a sitcom theme song from 1986?
