Answering “why are you leaving academia” questions in interviews

Workshop description:
For many doctoral students and postdocs, making a jump from a possible faculty career path to a role in industry, business, non-profit, or government fields can sometimes feel challenging from both an experiential and emotional perspective. Your research or teaching narratives that you have centered your professional identity around as a doctoral student or postdoc may need to be adapted to fit the diversity of new careers you might want or need to explore. In an interview setting, being ready to answer questions about the changing directions of your career path in a positive and confident manner is important. In this mini-workshop, advisors from Penn Career Services will share advice on ways to make sure you are answering these types of interview questions as effectively as possible.
