“Lay back in the arms of someone”…Hey Richard ..Happy 2022🎉 I remember listening to Smokie, as early as the mid seventies..they were popular down here. Thanks !
Oh man, I was a big fan of the band when I was young....back in the days. A Smokie concert was even my very first big live show in a bigger vernue when I was 8 or maybe 10 years old....I should listen to them again with todays perspective on music and maybe bring on a ranking myself : ) Great video RIchard!
Brilliant band although I really don't know much after Chris Norman left. They were my favourite band in 1978. I wore the Greatest Hits out and I had Midnight Cafe & The Montreux Album on cassette
Thanks Sarah, I wasn't sure if their singles were successful in Germany or not. Come to think of it, if their albums did well, their singles would do well, doh! lol
They appeared on the German show Disco promoting 11 different singles between December 1975 and March 1980. That doesn't necessarily mean those singles sold any copies, but presumably they wouldn't have kept being booked if they hadn't. I've a feeling I've got the Pass It Around single. I might have to have a rummage.
@@shadshowadradna I was just watching Wild Wild Angels from Disco. I didnt know Chris Norman had gone blonde for a while. There's a 30 minute live set from Bratislava on youtube from 1983. It's really good and they acknwledge Don't Play Your Rock n Roll To Me is a rip off from His Latest Flame
Hi Richard I’ve always had a soft spot for smokie I’m going to a record fair today I’m sure most of their albums will be in the pound bins. You may have inspired me to buy one today if I see one . I’m always seeing The greatest hits. Thanks for sharing Richard 👍
I acquired loads of albums from a family member, all 70s stuff and there's 2 Smokie albums in there that I've never played. Your video has convinced me to give them a spin Richard. Cheers.
Good work Richard. When you were talking about the '77 album spawning big hit singles but not itself charting I was reminded of The Motors having a huge hit with 'Airport' in 1978 while the album it came from absolutely bombed. Similar with Cool for Cats. It's strange the way some artists can shift singles but not LP's. They may not be the 'coolest' band around, but interestingly I no longer see Smokie records in charity shops these days. Cheers, James
If you like that soft rock / Eagles type sound Smokie really do hit the spot. You would think Cool For Cats would be a top 5 album with 2 massive hits on it.
found a memory of smokie lurking deep down richard - i must try and find a download -thanks richard - i'm plugging my end of year vids == hope u can view
Only recently discovered Smokie, love their music
Glad you are enjoying them, Harry

Hi Richard, that was an excellent video about a often overlooked band who released some classic singles. Happy New Year. Steve
Thanks Steve and a very Happy New Year to you too!
Another good band from my childhood. I've seen videos of German chart hits from the 70s and 80s and Smokie were very successful over there.
