Motley Crue Weren't That Bad, Or Were They?!

  • The Stadium Tour is in full swing! What a line up it is featuring Joan Jett, Poison, Def Leppard and of course...Motley Crue! Today I'll be reacting to some footage of Motley Crue to see how they're getting on. There was some scepticism prior to this tour that they and in particular Vince Neil weren't up to it. After watching this...what do you think? Is the show worth attending?

    Dude, i suffer from the same disease as Mick Mars, Ankylosing Spondylitis. I'm only 52 and it kicks the shit out of me on a daily basis. The fact that he's 71 and is up there with a guitar strapped on playing for hours every night is amazing. He's a tough old man, no doubt about it!

      When Mick is gone, he will be hard to replace. He is the Crue sound. It would be like replacing Angus. Mick is incredible, like the walking dead but he still puts out some serious sound. A very good player.

    Best commentary on music out there. I laughed out loud when Justin did his impression of someone watching Mick Mars tread water on guitar before taking off with his next flurry of notes up higher on the neck. Brilliant.

    Vince hasn't been "perfect" or "near perfect" since 1987 and I don't expect that from him anymore. It is what it is. He's going to sing every third word of most songs and allow the audience to sing the rest. The rest of the band will usually sound really tight, so you're not missing out on much.
    Go for the spectacle and keep your expectations at ground level when it comes to Vince's performance.

    I personally think Vince did great, he was using that football pitch of a stage to run from one end to the other to interact as best he could with the crowd. And I'm in your camp when it comes to not expecting perfection in live gig's, after all we are just human and he's up there singing his little hart out. I think all the bands did really well, and for me 80% was just nostalgic watching them do what they love.

    Hey Justin, would be great to hear your views on Def Leppard. How the first 4 albums were the best. Rick Allen’s car accident, the death of Steve Clark and how their sound changed after Vivian Campbell joined the band (His time in Dio, Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy) Maybe how they’re currently doing playing LIVE and how Phil Collen can’t keep his shirt on, although I guess he’s copying you!🤘😀🤘

    • @rugdnit911
      @rugdnit911 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Viv has very little to do with their sound since Steve left us. He’s a hired hand- He’s not going to rock the boat. Definitely a massive talent who is underutilized in that band. I’ve been to many live shows where he occasionally runs off the leash with some of his solos which are incredibly true to the mood of the song, but in recent years has stayed extremely true to the original. The truth is much of Def Leppard’s signature sound died with Steve. That’s not Vivian’s fault.

    I was so impressed by the Citi Field show, all of the bands were fully on their game. The Crüe set was astounding loud and so bass heavy that even with ear plugs in I had trouble making anything else out (we were on Nicki’s side about twenty rows back.) But due credit to Vince and the rest of ‘em, they really kicked ass and the crowd was going nuts. That’s what it’s about.

    The issue is, are the punters getting value for money? People paid $300/400/500 plus for their tickets and Vince has had over two years to get into shape. I used to be the biggest Crue fan, but they really are mercenary when it comes to taking the money and running (the only running Vince does, clearly).

    • @JoeBaermann
      @JoeBaermann 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Age shows it's wear, you have to remember that some musicians live style in the past affects their performance of today too.
      The price is for a 4 band show, right?
      Apart from that, Vince wasn't on pair with some of the really good vocalists singing live in the 80's either.

    • @simonc1uk
      @simonc1uk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoeBaermann Personally, and it's just my opinion, but I don't think it matters how many big acts are on the bill. Many fans originally bought the tickets because they thought it was a Crue headlining tour, not a co-headline tour. Regardless, they are (co) top billing and Vince should IMO, show more professionalism or at least, more respect to the punters. Having said that, many American Crue fans lap up this shit anyway, so what the hell do I know. Lol.

    I use to give Vince all kinds of hell. When you're not even singing half the words and half of the words you are singing sound like a secret language children would use, you're being lazy and are taking peoples hard earned money. Now I just find Vince endearing. You can't help but root for the guy. He's a 61 year old that put his body through hell. It is really tough losing weight at that age and the endurance it takes to get around that stage night after night is not an easy task. He is singing better and singing more words than he has in the past 25 years and in the original key. The dude is a legend and I think most of these haters are more pissed that he hasn't crashed and burned as they hoped he would. What a sad existence for such a person to be having a rough go to bring you pleasure. On a side note Justine, I just watched an older video of The Darkness on TH-cam. It was the one where some tool threw a beer at you as you were strapping on the white Les Paul Custom. Oh how I wanted to jump through this screen and save my dream guitar from hitting the floor. 😭 You handled that situation with great class my man.

    I remember being a teenager being into metal more than like 80's glam bands. Though I did like Van Halen. My bands were: Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, AC/DC(hard rock I know). Also love bands such as Judas Priest, Black Sabbath. Saw Iron Maiden twice and was lucky enough to see Metallica. AC/DC live was something else though, just amps turned to 11 and got on with it. Simplified it so well and that's what I love most of all. And how fucking great is the rhythm between cliff Williams and Phil Rudd?

    The ticket prices for this were crazy. The first 5 rows were in the $5,000 range. Most of the floor behind that was $2,500. This show looks preposterously expensive. Imagine the electricity bill for all those lights alone. They have to pay the Nasty Habits a livable wage and provide good health insurance to their team of gaffers, etc, etc, etc. So much security and logistics to manage. And that's just for one of the four major acts. So I get it.
    However, $350 is probably the most I've ever spent on a single ticket for myself for a concert. A 3-day Coachella ticket is $500. I was excited when the stadium tour was announced but I couldn't justify paying that to sit in the very back row of a huge baseball stadium. I might have paid $500 to get in the first 20 rows but they were selling for 6 figures. It blows my mind that they were able to sell it out. There's a lot of rich people out there. And they fucking love Mötley Crüe.

    The beauty of the stadium tour is that def Leppard rocks hard, and then everyone is completely shitfaced by the time Crue comes out and it's a great time. Awesome show!

    Hello Justin.
    I'm a fan of alternative music ( can't stand limp commercial music)
    I'll confess I never listened to the Darkness.....BUT...
    I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!
    You are extremely talented in the way you dissect tunes, talk about music , and opnions on 🎶 music . Thus far I've totally agreed with you.
    Your channel is refreshing. Keep it up!! 😏 marvellous Justin...x

    I'm just about familiar with the darkness from the song a thing called love and I think it's a great song. Just recently stumbled on this channel and the first thing that hit me was. This guy must have the same DNA as Freddie Mercury and should be in queen now instead of that other guy. Even the intro to the show is so much like Freddie singing.

    I saw Motley Crue on the Carnival Of Sins Tour, when they came through Ontario, right after they released Red, White, And Crue album. Everyone was shitting on them back then and it seems nothing has changed. From then to now, Vince looks good, and he sounds about the same, which especially for a 61-year-old currently if freaking awesome. And a couple of more things, Vince was flat in parts when he recorded Kick Start My Heart back on The Dr. Feel Good album, listen to it again if you don't believe me, as for the sound at the venue, maybe don't record or sit under the goddam amp, you will always have the sound go over you unless you're by the wall on the floor to get that reverb. The Crue are still killing it

    Was at the show in Denver last night…Vince sounded good…a lot better than he has in years. It’s probably due to the background singers and production, but I only remember him struggling on Kickstart at the end of the show. Kicking ass for 60yrs old for sure!

    Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs... A great friend to me when trying to impress girls at college. Looks like a really fun concert, even if Vince is struggling to get up there a bit. Many thanks for the upload... "What's wrong with being sexy?".

    I am so sick of all the Negative crap being said obout Vince.. The Guy looks like he has lost 70lbs.. Hes moving around good, gettiing the crowd going and singing better than he has in 20 years.. Its not like he just sat around and did nothing.. You can tell that he has been working hard to get to this point.. You can tell that he cares.. Everyone that has been going to the shows have been having a complete blast and enjoying it.. The hate needs to stop.. You don't kick a guy when he is down and you especially don't when that Guy has been doing alot to correct himself.. Vince is an Icon and to actually work on getting your shit together after years of neglect is impressive in my opinion.. He did not give up and continues to fight to get better

    The guitar commercial that popped up is hilarious. Dude suggesting you can be good at guitar without practicing. Lol.
    I do perceive something not quite so "on" about this performance. The xl stage definitely adds a bit of awkward.
    Much love to you Mr. Hawkins ♡!
