That was absolutely mindblowing Ben, and probably just the impetus I needed to get back into macro photography again. I haven't done any for ages if I'm honest, but your video makes me wonder why!😊
Excellent video as usual Ben. I am impressed by the details of the photos taken in X10. Simply beautiful and the work of a scientific artist:) Thank you
Hey Ben, I have the Aurogon set and I had the exact same problem with movement and vibrations. My home photo setup was upstairs and I found that I couldn't set an automatic macro rail and walk away so it could do its thing. Even having the laptop on the same desk as the macro rail caused problems because the fan would come on and that was enough to cause some vibrations with the 20x and up. I had to move the entire setup downstairs. I found a very heavy cabinet at a junk store, leveled it on a piece of thick carpet, put anti-vibration pads on it, and then put a heavy piece of granite countertop on top. The computer to run the rail is on a separate desk next to it with all the cables bundled together going between. It works very well - there are no vibration issues and I can walk all the way around it to set lights etc., but it's a permanent solution that takes up a lot of space. Thanks for all the ideas on this channel! A lot of macro channels are "all insects all the time" and it's great to see something unique.
Really great advice, I think we will need to create some things more stable at the Adaptalux HQ where there's a concrete floor and heavy tables. Glad you're enjoying the videos, we try to do different subjects to keep the inspiration flowing for everyone. Insects are cool, but there's so much more out there that looks interesting in macro!
Hi Ben. Great video. I have one of those Laowa lens kits and have found that putting your camera and subject at the same level close to your table/bench height, and have the barrel of the lens resting on one of those cheap heat packs (the ones with the wheat in them - folded to desired shape) to take up the weight and stop the sagging issues. I assume that one of those lens support kits might also solve this.
Great Idea! I initially tried mounting using the lens slip rings provided but it still has balance issues. I'll certainly be going for a different setup next time so might have to get some beanbags to rest the longer lenses on. Thanks for the great tip!
I would like to see comparison on 90 mm olympus lens with x2.0 tc and auto focus bracket. Could be fun and wesome, also could be bad and hazy. You might test and show us! :)
Hi Ben. Great video. Amd some really cool shots. Vibration is the #1 enemy. I do not have the Aurogon, only the 2,5-5x from Laowa. A automated rail, very solid and stable setup, preferably with some support of the lens, and no air movement will help a lot. You can check out the reviews that Allan Walls Photography has done with this lens kit. (And other high magnification setups). It's fascinating, but laborious. Looking forward to your next videos.😊 Cheers Nils in Norway
Couldn't agree more Nils, It's why I can't test anything closer with my current setup. I'll need to devise something new to try out the rest of the Aurogon lenses.
I've just got a camera that will give me the use of electronic shutter, so ideal for this. (maybe banding?) . To help chose (LED vs Flash) I'd like to know your exposures with LED in this video ie ISO Aperture and shutter speed at whatever magnification you can recall. I think I'd rather use LED but the lumens levels shown on the website aren't helping me get to real world values. I'm sure they will help me and others gauge what to look for when buying. Or you prefer me deal straight with the manufacturer's web?
There was quite a range of shutter speeds used, but most of the shots were taken around 1/80 f8 and ISO100-500. This might be a helpful video for you - th-cam.com/video/P8zPb7hDAr4/w-d-xo.html
@@Adaptalux That was a very useful video. Seems I might have a problem, but not with power output of Adaptalux. Is the light AC or is there electronics and whatnot that makes the light constant under DC (if even possible)? I'm reading now the banding from AC lights cannot be dealt with, with electronic shutter. I'd have thought there may be a way if exposures were X times longer than the Hz of the light so maybe averged down over the range giving homogenity. 🤷 I've not even unboxed the camera yet (GFX100s) but want to get ahead of this. I was thinking about the Aurogon but tiny DOF would mean an awful lot of mechanical actuations per (stacked) shot . Pity the flash don't have modelling.
@@killpop8255 I think you're over worrying about banding. It can occur but only when the shutter speed specifically matches the refresh rate of the LEDs, which can also be changed with the birghtness settings and Boost mode.
@@Adaptalux To me it's worth the worry if it could NOT be used without banding. I'm really liking what I see so don't want to drop £600 and then go "Oooh!" ☹. Fair comment? OK so you are sure banding can definately be dialled out with the kit? I can't see these frequencies mentioned on the adaptalux website anywhere so far , even in Support Specs, so what is the range of frequencies available? It would be in Control Pod 3 yes? FYI currently I'm getting a 404 on: /the-control-pod-3-0-next-generation page. (Can't post links on here )
@@Adaptalux I now have about shy of £400 of your gear delivered today. Time to read all the manuals. None came with the kit, which was a shame, not even a very basic guide. And I always read the guides and manuals. I've found your Online Manuals Section.
Pollen like this is definitely in the category of “Oh WOW!” which is what my macro/close-up business is called.

Glad you found some inspiration Ash, im happy to remind you every now and again that there are some really cool things to discover with a macro lens!
This is incredible! I've never seen Pollen in true color light like this. Only ever get to see the electron microscope photos, this is SO cool!
wow - just seen the results - amazing
Very pleasant video as usual - thankyou
Very interesting! I did not even know of a 50× lens ... amazing
It's a very specialist set, but quite challenging after 10x. I'll be delving into it in more detail in future videos.
Excellent video as usual Ben.

I was really pleased to see the spikes on the pollen at 10x, Thanks for stopping by Patrick!
That was certainly a eye opener for me, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Awesome result! I have always wanted to go further than my 1 to 1 macro lens. Great job!
Thanks! I highly recommend exploring some high magnification macro at some point, it really is another world and comes with new challenges!
WOW! They’re not smooth!! The detail here is amazing!
Were you also using remote shutter control?
Looking forward to seeing more with this lens 😊
I just used a basic shutter release cable I was really happy to see the little spikes!

We don't have any olympus equipment but perhaps it will be something we can try in the future.
@@Adaptalux Sure, as a brand you can cooperate with other brands, that's your plus!

Use a Manfrotto 410 and a focus rail in order to adjust the camera and the lens. It is much easier.
Do you mean this is easier than the ballhead and rail setup I have, or easier than adjusting the subject?
@@Adaptalux Definetly. I use a rail made by Novoflex. The combination with the Manfrotto 410 head is invincible. 👍

It's a big no. I'm allergic
Me too, chronic hay-fever. I just tried my best to not sniff it.
