Really good review +THE K.O GAMES SHOW!, the upload is most appreciated man! I've just got myself a flat of my own and I've been looking at proper TVs to replace my little 22". I've yet to hear or see anything that would stop me buying this Sony. I don't know what camera you used, but the picture really looks top quality even on TH-cam. I get what you say about the interface and remote, but I can live with that. You're spot-on about the deep blacks & contrast on a TV, it makes a lot of difference. You're also dead right about the buying/testing experience when going to a shop; the best home cinema/hifi audio dealers will take their time to please YOU. The best will sit you down, offer you tea or coffee, then let you totally call the shots as to what stuff you want to test, and what movies/music/games you want to play through it. You're paying a lot of your hard-earned money, you should be given the conditions to make the best decision for you.
Great video, sounds/looks like a sensational TV. But is there now, in 2015, a newer (maybe better) version of this model that i should buy? Or should I just buy this one?
Thanks a lot for posting this video man. I found it very useful. The 2015 lineup is going to be released on April and I will look for the 2015 version of this model (W800C). I will definitely buy one.
Thanks for the in depth review, no other review show picture quality which is the main point.... I was a TV engineer 30 years and most TVs are crap at the moment, worst of all the sales people know f all.... 😎
Hey mate great review I've been looking at this TV to buy and your review as helped a lot they have the TV in 55 inch now I was gonna pick up the 55 have you any idea if the quality is the same in the 55 cos as you sead the specs change slightly I know the 55 is 800 htz
Yes mate I think the 55 inch and 50 are the top ones. But remember it's your right as a customer to try these tvs out. Go with your console or something and tell them you want to see the performance of the TV. But Yeh 55 and 50 are the top ones. 42 wasn't great
leeJCBjones yeah u dont need to change the settings that much to be honest. when gaming put the scene onto game mode, in advanced settings turn off black tone and dynamic contrast. from there u dont really need to change much. I keep the edge and detail enhancer on medium and thats about it!!!
Good review mate helpful and it looks real smooth even through youtube, I'm considering it but was a little concerned about the odd faulty unit but I suppose that risk is there with any product you buy.
I have tried to look it up and it seems as if the w828 is a european model or outside of the UK model as I have not seen it on sale in any UK stores. It looks very much the same as the w829 but I am still researching the TV. I will let you know as soon as i find out. But it looks exactly the same as my TV.
Thank you!!In italy sony sells 55w829 and 55w828. Assuming that could be just a slight difference in the color of the tv, i am wondering if the bigger size of 55w829 could affect the quality that you talked about in your review. Thanks again
yeh sure for what u are seeing there on screen i am on animation mode backlight 8 contrast 85 brightness 49 everything else pretty much is standard, adv contrast off black level low and thats all the changes i made. now for gaming, with ps3 id use gaming standard and adjust to ur own personal preference same with wii u. BUT for PS4! i have played with the settings for a long while and found that the best visuals for PS4 on this TV is gaming original and at first it seems dimmer and less more grabbing than the other picture modes but once u play for a good hour or so u will notice a big difference compared to the other modes.
What's the HRZ of your TV Cause mine is a 60hrz with True Motionflow XR 240hrz Im getting a Sony Bravia kdl48w600b 48" 1080p LED SMART TV Color, clarity and detail at their best with X-Reality™ PRO Lifelike movement with Motionflow™ XR 240 Loud, clear surround sound and dialogue with Clear Audio+ technology Stream HD entertainment wirelessly with built-in Wi-Fi®1 Customize shortcuts for quick access to online videos2
Our sorry forget to mention you cant install for this tv swivel bracket straight forward. You need to buy special adapters for 70euros.Also i saw Hd channels doesn't look nice for some reason.
Yeah those are good but I actually went into TV stores with my PS4 to see how good each could handle blu ray movies and gaming and you can do that too, but what youd find is, is that generally Samsung TV's are the best if you watch TV and Movies, for gaming its not good. And that's how you should make your choice, if you are a gamer and you watch Tv and Movies then I personally think the W829 is the best choice for the price. If you dont really play games or into games and just watch TV and Movies etc then definitely a Samsung.
I'm not a Sony fan I'll make that quite clear and I would personally prefer to buy Samsung since they've always done me so well and are well built, but this Sony is a stunning set for gaming. The input lag beats all previous records for LCD tech, plus the CMR and motion flow is very high quality.
***** Yes, Gaming mode and it's an incredible pictre if you use Reality creation: Resolution set to max and Detail enhancer set to High, keep sharpness around 25, Gamma -2 and the image is fantastic. Best TV I've owned by far, very low latency in gaming mode, feels like CRT. Just a shame the impulse setting in gaming mode is a bit too dark for general use but for some games it's ok and in a dark room.
This TV has to be one of the best out there. I purchased one the other day and it's fantastic, the only problem for me is the start up time can take quite a while. I also think the sound could be better, i can't seem to wire my Logitech Z623 2.1 speaker system up to it :(
***** Just got the tv was wondering if u could advise me on any changes i could make to the settlings to improve game mode ? Awsome tv glad i went with the 50 think 55 might been tad to big
leeJCBjones Yes make sure you have it on game mode, to get minimal input lag. Take off black tone and dynamic contrast before you start changing the brightness and contrast but to be honest once you change it to game mode and take black tone and dynamic contrast off you wont need to change much. Also here is a great test you can do. Goto scene select and choose game mode, play a game for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes change it to animation mode and you will see a major difference. The smoothness and crispness of the game in animation mode will increase tenfold. However you will see the terrible input lag this mode has, and most TV's are as smooth as crisp but havent got an option of a great game mode to reduce the input lag. But this TV does.
ACID TITAN for games i put it on game mode and i use game original but change the colour temp to neutral take the brightness down a little bit edge and detail enhancer off smooth gradiation on low and i am absolutely fine with those settings its great stuff and u ask me cormier vs jones i will make a video on it stay tuned buddy!
Billy Rogers can you assure me this tv is good for gaming? I am also getting it next week from Thurgo... but your comment was 4 months ago, so I'm assuming you have got it? So any good for gaming??
Billy Rogers Thanks for sharing your experience. I was torn between the Samsung UE48H6400 and this one. Going through reviews, these are the best 2 TV's in the market for the size and price. I'm surprised about the input lag you mention on Sony. Looking through forums and test results on reviews, the Sony should be around 20ms, whilst Samsung is 33ms. Maybe settings needs to be adjusted to achieve this? The only issue I see mentioned with the Samsung is lip syncing when using Freeview. You can adjust the audio delay to fix this, but it's slightly different for each channel, so you would have to adjust each time. Apart from that, everyone says the Samsung is amazing. If you're saying that Sony's input lag is a problem, and Samsung cannot lip sync, then I still don't know which to get :-s
Thanks for the video but I would not have kept that TV, it has a massive clouding spot right above the Sony logo. ... I own a 55 829B and mine only has very mild clouding on the left which is only barely visible in a dark room.
hi getting one in few days , just sold kd55x8509c 4k which you can't really watch night movies due to horrible light bleed , all kinda gray milky , star wars was just not watchable to me . Read a lot of review and this one or w905a are two choices only now for me. of course oled maybe but just not in my price range.

It's a 1080p panel. You'd have to be an idiot to buy a 4k set if you're a gamer anyway, just when home consoles have caught up to TV tech then run out and go and buy a TV a generation ahead with mismatched native res leaving you to upscale all of your content once again with high input lag. People are stupid and don't know what's good, that is why the superior Plasma technology was faded out in 2014. 4k is just another way for struggling electronic manufactufers to rinse these gullible fools for as much cash as they can.
42'' of this Tv is a piece of shit. It is not true 100hz like 50'' one, it is 50hz. And it is passive 3D, 50'' one is Active 3D. Don't let made up Hz numbers fool you. Software accelerated Hz numbers are not true.
Finally someone who really shows the TV and its performance and talks about both it up- and downsides.

Good point about 50" image quality being better as compared to a 42". I am thinking of getting the same 50" model also.

I agree, it's hard to find a review that talks about picture quality, and actually shows video of the this TV's picture quality.
that sluggish part really kills me xDDD this review was alright but i think you shouldve did it over but great job bro :) sony ftw

Luca Manca the 55 and 50 are there better higher end versions of the TV so you wont be losing anything getting the 55!
I found you creepy at first but as I watched it is actually the best review of this TV. Just beware of copyright issues
Your tv has satellite and aerial tuners. How the hell to set 28.2E and scan it?
thanks for putting the effort in. good simple review.

Hello, What is the difference between this tv and the Sony : KDL-50 W815
hey. from my research it seems as if the only difference is the HZ. where w815 is 600 hz and the w829 is 800 hz
the W815 has a silver frame instead of black that's the only difference
I think it's just the colour - silver or black
hi getting one in few days , just sold kd55x8509c 4k which you can't really watch night movies due to horrible light bleed , all kinda gray milky , star wars was just not watchable to me .
