    We grew four different varieties, Pocket Melon, Minnesota Midget, De Charentais and Watermelons. This video also shows how we prune them.

    We are growing Melons this year. Your pruning advice is off the charts GOOD! I hope to have a decent harvest this year. I'm growing 12 to 15 varieties on a 5x30 ft trellis system in grow pots with a solar drip system and monthly feeding cycle. Why so many? Its for the show. We'll cut back when we find our favorites that have less difficulty for 2025.

    Hi Dan. Loved watching your video and seeing your success. I’ve been growing Emir in my polytunnel for the past few years, a lovely melon but I’m lucky if I get one good size melon per plant, always very low on the plant. I’m not sure whether it’s a feeding or watering issue, spacing or maybe something else as I would have thought at least 3 fruits per plant is feasible

    • @freedomforestlife
      @freedomforestlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nick, we don’t give ours any additional food other than just a very basic compost and the woodchip layer… so I would guess at either water or spacing … the woodchip we use obviously helps to retain the moisture too, which they will like, interestingly though, this year we’ve planting watermelons in 2 tunnels… in one tunnel we planted single planet per space … a good 2m apart at least and they are growing very strongly and forming well already … in the other tunnel … same spacing overall but plants doubled up in planting hole …. Not happy strong watermelons in this tunnel … hope that helps and really glad that you enjoyed the vid - thanks for letting us know 🙏✌️🌿

    Do you believe the success of these melons was because they were grown in a poly tunnel, much warmer environment? I'm asking because, I am Kent UK & no tunnel.....have you tried growing them outdoors?
    Congratulations on your successful harvest, they looked so juicie and flavoursome.

    • @freedomforestlife
      @freedomforestlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alison, Yes i do think its because of the tunnel we got these results, i do think an early variety like Minisota midget or pocket melon would fruit and ripen outdoors in kent but you wouldnt get so many, we are going to try a a russian type this year which is meant to be good outside here!

      Glad our video has helped - thats awesome! We don't support ours ... but you could if you wanted to/don't have many... We had a few fall off the vines last year, but mainly when they were actually ripe, so we just took them and ate those ones straight away ... usually the sweetest most ripest ones 😋 Thanks for watching & Please share the video anywhere you think it will be useful to ours too - this really helps us too 🙏✌️🌿

      HI, we just use a very standard soil for ours - but the woodchip mulch is defo loved by all plants in this family ! We tried single stem pruning this year and whilst it may be down to the seasonal conditions, we have definitely had LESS fruit than normal this year, we've not pruned off flowers in other years (nature will terminate naturally) and we have had very good crops 💚 Hope that helps ✌️🌿
