The amount of games he won Liverpool that they had no business winning was insane. I remember watching him in Istanbul. That was a man that was only leaving the pitch in two ways: with a winners medal around his neck, or in a coffin from dying trying to win.
In an era of insane, all time central midfield players like Zidane, Seedorf, Pirlo, Xavi, Iniesta, Modric, Ballack, Kroos, Scholes, Lampard, et cetera Stevie was always near the top of the bunch. I won't say he is better than anyone aforementioned but he is certainly not worse. Zizou even called him the best in the world several times. Comparisons are futile. Watch the video. Gerrard's technical ability and touch are often overshadowed by his physical attributes & athleticism, passing, aggression, engine and long range shooting, however this video displays his technical ability well. This man was a true competitor. A warrior with the heart of a lion. He would make an occasional large profile mistake, but that is because he ALWAYS wanted the ball. Elite winners mentality. One of the most clutch players in the history of the game. Late minute goals were drawn to HIM. An unparalled captain and leader. Thank you Stevie to your loyalty to the club you loved and the people of Liverpool. You'll Never, ever, ever Walk Alone
That man stepped onto the field with fierce determination, leaving the pitch with either glory around his neck or on a stretcher, always fighting valiantly until his last breath
The best compliment you could give him was that he made impossible things look easy. Our Captain could have played for any team in the world and he stayed with us until the end! Legend of all time.
And some idiots were calling Szobumzlai Steven Gerrard last season 😂 ...? That guy can't even finish a 5 yard pass accurately , has the first touch of a Catholic Priest ....His best attribute is running backwards to his goalie
I wouldn't say he made football look easy. Wasn't really that type of graceful player. Zidane, Scholes, and Pirlo were easier on the eyes. Gerrard had rugged and robust looking play, but he was a technician. Good dribbler, decent in 1v1s and hard to get the ball off. Could play short or long with either foot, inside or outside trivela. Players like him and Milner rarely get the baller creds, because theyre not as easy on the eye. But both are actually very technical players. People call me high for saying this all the time. But if I'm a coach that wants to win, I'm taking Gerrard over Zidane, Scholes, Pirlo and the rest. Gerrard had it all.
@@greatteacherhugo I would agree with this take. Stevie was not the most elegant player ever. Damn was he effective though, as you said. Few players could influence the game like Gerrard. Honestly I think in terms of the complete midfielder from the same era, I think Clarence Seedorf is the most akin to Gerrard and vice versa. Both super strong defensively, crazy passing range, technical in tight spaces, controlled the tempo of the match and could unleash a long distance thundercunt better than 99.9% of footballers in history. Both all time greats. Seedord won an insane amount of trophies. Gerrard's had a special significance. Gerrard was a hometown hero. But Seedorf was never going to stay at Ajax. Amazing that he won the CL with Ajax, in the relatively modern era, granted it was an all time squad stacked with talent. Gerrard's & Liverpool's Miracle in Istanbul is of course one of the greatest European/CL trophies in the history of the game.
My favourite Liverpool player of all time. Technique, vision, tackling, brawn, inspiration, leadership, set pieces…Remembered he started in midfield in the 2005 final and ended up as right back. One of the bright lights in Liverpool’s darkest times .. he carried the team for years. He could do everything
As a liverpool fan we wouldn't swap him for anyone, not even Zidane, kaka, Ronaldinho or iniesta. He was our hero and simply the greatest ever liverpool player
Liverpool soul He was the only reason why Liverpool stood at a so high level in Champions league for so many years. The rest of that team was not so special, execpt Torres and Alonso...
What makes him unique is that he was Mr Liverpool. Until the arrival of Torres and Suarez he was the only superstar in the team who was able to carry the team on his shoulders after the departure of Owen and Fowler. One man show
Lets not forget Messi, Ronaldo, Pele and Maradona played in easy leagues. Steven Gerrard on the other hand played in the hardest, most contested league in the world and still comes out on top.
Yo fam, I know I shouldn't feed the trolls, but let me try and answer this one in an objective, impartial way. Zinedine Zidane called Gerrard the best player in the world in 2009. Paul Scholes in a recent interview said that "he couldn't do what Gerrard did at Liverpool." Fernando Torres is adamant that Stevie is the best player he ever played with, and his favorite. Jose Mourinho tried to sign Gerrard at 3 different clubs: Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid. He even wrote Gerrard a letter saying how much he admired him and wanted to coach him. Alex Ferguson, despite telling the press a different story, also tried to sign Gerrard as a replacement for Roy Keane. But I am sure you have more ball knowledge than these legends whatever your username is.

Beautiful articulate word, i first started support Liverpool because of stevie g.
Ya true most videos on TH-cam doesn't show his technical ability & skills. This video is better on that aspect.
Steve's partnership with torres was unbelievable but the we got suarez🎉
His pace and strength is so underrated. He was a hell of a player in his prime
anyone who watched football back then knows how much of a physical monster he was
I'm from the Dalglish and/then rush era.... but Steven Gerrard is the best all rounder. It was a pleasure to watch him play.

@@samiyi4896modric was controller gerrard played everywhere and dragged players to win

Steven8 ♥️🌏♥️
Before KDB, there was Gerrard although Gerrard could defend as well.
Shame the guy never left Liverpool. All the top clubs wanted him.
Most complete midfielder in history
most complete midfielder I've ever seen.
World Class in every outfield position. Could do it all. How many players can you say that about?
Manitoooo vuelve a subir las atajadas de iker casillas porfa
Seriously anyone thinks scholes lampard etc are close 😂😂😂
you look at the players being paid 300k per week nowadays and they can't even do 50% of the things Stevie can do
lol by falling over the ball and nearly breaking his ankles. Most overrated footballer of all time.
Zero knowledge. Gerrard in 13/14 was the best 6 in the world.
That’s because he wasn’t very good.
