the chorus sounds too much like Centuries by Fall Out Boy, and the whole song seems like it's trying too hard to be that "experimental" song, much like Violence was. But on the bright side, the bridge of this song is probably the best part on the whole album.
I wish the album went in this direction!! Such an interesting gritty synth sound during the verse.. fucking incredible bridge!! ahhh, this song has it allll
It was very, very sad! When they started playing Dammit I knew the show was over and was like noooooo! I have a feeling they're playing it tonight though because so many people from the Friday show were bent out of shape over not being the first date after all haha
Oh yeah, I know Friday was meant to be the official first date. I was waiting on Ticketmaster when the Friday show went on sale and couldn't get tickets, and was so bummed. When they added another date I was super happy (I was going to go regardless, I was going to have to buy crazy expensive scalper tickets). I'd be bummed too if I thought I was going to the show I thought was first, but some people were being kinda jerky about it. I saw a ton of people saying not to play San Diego for the Thursday date and save it for Friday, which I didn't think was super cool of them.
this is a big departure of Blink-182. They're better than before (i think). Maybe, we miss Tom too, but Matt do something good and different than Tom. Blink-182 for life!!!
Yeah I was bummed they didn't play it Thursday. I thought they would Friday. Maybe they need to rehearse it more or something. Or maybe it's too technical with set things playing for specific songs on all the screens around them, who knows..
It's weird cause I feel the same way. Very seldom did he sing songs in key. I will always love Tom and what's he done musically, support his crazy direction whatever it may be, and look to him for inspiration. However, the new Blink is pretty good.
man 4 days ago i must have been fucked up or something i don't remember writing that at all. Listen to Los Angeles here and then tell me you'd rather have the new line up.
Yes as a musician and a songwriter, matt for Tom works. However, I think that deep down, blink has always been special because of the to-fro between polar opposites mark (the sane, solid, 'punk' singer) and tom (3 degrees from crazy, head in the clouds, emo). Like, they defs sound more cohesive, but they're missing that spark that made them special. And I'm NOT calling tom the spark, I'm calling the to-fro between mark and Tom the spark. PH yeah their banter sucks now too
San Diego is about Tom and Mark being best friends when they were teenagers and growing up apart from eachother. Its a very touchy subject for him especially because Tom left the band so he probably wont play it live.

I don't understand why people say this song kicks ass live? It sounds very bad, the studio version is 10x better, imo, I feel these compliments and approval are kinda hypocritical or not really thought through? Just like, "Hey, this guy said is awesome, I will say it's awesome too although i'm not sure i like it" or "I will say it's awesome just because it's blink"
Have to agree with you. Personally I think California is a better studio album than a live one, the songs just aren't that energetic live compared to the older stuff. That's just my opinion of course.
ArunSG1910 Yeah, exactly. Blink, to me, has always been a band of monstruosly talented songwriters and musicians, but the only live show i've seen that they're as good as their music is in the Mark, Tom and Travis show, and a few others. I'm not saying i'm better than them, I'm obviously not. But I feel the acceptation of the public to the live shows is too positive to be real/genuine, this is all my opinion. Oldschool Tom (90s) kicks Matt in the balls very, very hard.
Thats why I like the reddit, people their actual critique rather than praise everything which I think is a better thing to do as a fan. Some stuff obviously doesn't work live, Bored to Death in the high key for one. I just don't think the new songs have a good energy live at all. In studio they are great but live, eh. The amount of backing tracks is also a bit weird too. Im sure Matt could do something interesting to make sure they only had his live guitar playing
I don't understand the hate for this song. One of my favourites from California!

Same. I love it.
The best part on the whole album is "San Diego" chorus imo
***** that too, also Cynical

This song actually really grew on me. I like it a lot now.
Just so energetic ! Matt you rock!
i love the part:
wake me when this war is over
meet me where the skylight end
I love went that kick I'm the chorus with the guitar
Meant to say I love it wen they kick in the chorus with the slashing guitar
Sick part!
Best they have sound live since early 2000s. Excited to see them in Nashville.
5 yrs late to the party but have you been living under a rock this whole time?
@@magalidereu3982You're clearly delusional
I don't get it why people hate this song. This song kicks ass.
They were in San Diego, but they didn't play San Diego
It was very, very sad! When they started playing Dammit I knew the show was over and was like noooooo! I have a feeling they're playing it tonight though because so many people from the Friday show were bent out of shape over not being the first date after all haha
maybe because san diego was about tom? lol
+Nathan Hollow Cynical is about Tom too
+Sydney Wilkinson They were the first show of the official US tour though. As well as being the first show to receive new California material

@@theanswergaOk, now let's try to get an answer from someone who's not a complete retard.
This is an incredible performance. Wow.
Best song ever in the world
I was from Santa Monica, CA and love living here in California
Mark and Matt are playing identical body guitars (of course marks playing a bass)
So good!!!!
Skiba for life. He is the god of pop punk.
lol marks face 2:20 "don't ruin the best bit of the song matt "
Dudeee that's so true, Skiba was singing like a fucking goat in the best part of the song. Let Mark do his job
this is a big departure of Blink-182. They're better than before (i think). Maybe, we miss Tom too, but Matt do something good and different than Tom. Blink-182 for life!!!
I actually thought Matt was too good to join Blink, but I'm glad he's having some influence.
California is great but lost guitar riff.if this album had guitar riff it's fucking awesome. sorry for my bad eng
that matching guitar color
tom and mark used to do that :(
that's right. maybe mark still missing tom
I just moved to LA 5 months ago. It's not in my plan to move back "home" as LA is home now and I don't want to go back to the Midwest.
best song on the album :-)
Ste Rice Yes :)
OMFG
Matt is way better than tom at singing. But. Tom is just original member. But Matt was a great replacement. He's doing fantastic.
sigh... I guess I'm just too used to Tom singing it...
you win 😅!
😂😂😂😂
same here
it's funny because Tom never sang this..
I went on Friday and they didn't perform San Diego either wtf
Yeah I was bummed they didn't play it Thursday. I thought they would Friday. Maybe they need to rehearse it more or something. Or maybe it's too technical with set things playing for specific songs on all the screens around them, who knows..
+Sydney Wilkinson Or maybe because the lyrics say "Can't go back to San Diego"?
Haha
Matt Skiba rules !
Matt sings too much better than Tom.
Fact.
But Tom... Tom is our Tom...
and our Tom is off chasing aliens and writing books about how 20 aliens chanted outside of his tent in Area 51.
You can have him.
+Sprite but he's still our tom 😢

Unpopular opinion: California is significantly better than Neighborhoods & One More Time

Matt is using a pink Jaguar guitar?
It looked like it to me!! I loved how they had matching pink bass and guitar haha
+Sydney Wilkinson Tom never used a pink strato or gibson while Mark was using the pink jazz bass. Matt is so cool ❤
+Julian C. He really is!
around 2000 tom used his surf green strat while mark used his surf green jazz bass
LETSSSS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
cool
YES FUCKING YES!
Best song ever ❤
2:01 - 3:14
i would preffer The only thing that matters than this... anyway... it sounds awesome
I was really hoping to hear that one. One of my tops on the new album!
guys seriously scrap this and play san diego wtf

he is 1000% saying "skyline" but the official lyrics say "skylight". weird, but i like skyline better so this is fine with me.
Yeah, I like the idea of releasing lyric videos instead of just the album cover and the song, but some of those videos are train wrecks.
they should have played compton
0:10 Matt snot rocket :O
LOL that was funny! thanks for pointing it out!
marks bass is so sexy
Take the flashing lights and fire away and let's see how they would play. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

But Matt has also an incredible studio voice, very energetic, don't know why he can't do it live, maybe it's to protect his voice

Yeah i don't really like him athat much xD

It annoys me how they're a bit off key

Matt Skiba was terrible live xd
Blink 182 has always been known for being terrible live
