The Salzkammergut (or Salzburger Land) is a particularly attractive region to visit in Austria. So plan to do a travel walking tour in the most beautiful village in Austria, or hike the Alpine mountains, or swim in beautiful lakes during your next Austria vacation ('Österreich Urlaub' in German). There are so many things to do in Salzburg and the surrounding Salzkammergut region that you don't want to miss.
Gosau is a municipality in the district of Gmunden in Upper Austria, Austria. Gosau is situated along the Gosaubach stream in the Salzkammergut region. It is only a 30 minute drive away from Hallstatt Austria and a much more quiet option than the famous tourist village. Beautiful rolling hills, forests and walking paths invite for hiking in summer. Gosau is also not far away from Salzburg Austria and the drive to Gosau is very scenic, especially if you choose to take the Romantic Route via Bad Ischl. There's also a good bus service available from Salzburg to Bad Ischl and Gosau. The center of the town is at an elevation of 767m (2,516'). 58.9% of the municipality is forested. At the southern end of Gosau there is a road leading to the Vorderer Gosausee, a lake with a view of the Dachstein. Gosau is one of the few Lutheran communities in Austria, with about 71% of the population being Lutheran.

I once spoke to someone living in the alps. You’re getting used to it. Imagine you are immigrating to there, then you’ll get tired of it at some point. People who’ve lived in the mountains for their whole life love the flat land (because of how far you can see without mountains obstructing the view) just as much we love the mountains landscape.

Thank you so much for your vlog. We went here the other day. We went to Gosausee, it was incredible. We did a boat ride for only 16 euros ( 5 people) 30 mins. We did other things as well since we are already at Gosau. We went also to Hallstatt but we were not able to go down and take pictures because the parking was so full. We hiked at Hauser Kaibling ( Schafsinn Rundweg about 6 KM ) together with our kids ages 4, 8 and 10. We saw a lot of sheeps in the mountain.😊 I cannot recommend this trail if you have kids below 8 years old. It is not as easy as Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg trail in Switzerland that is suitable for all ages. 😊😊😊

If you come to Gosau, Hallstatt is not that far. It’s about a 30 minute drive away. You may be able to combine the two. But if you’re coming all the way from Vienna, you should ideally spend a night in the Salzburg region. There are so many nice villages and small towns in the area that are all worth seeing: St Gilgen, St Wolfgang, Bad Ischl, Gmunden, Altaussee,… check out my videos on these for more inspiration

Like your sincere truthfully video. Calm, serene and peaceful feeling through out your video. Just curious, if I stay at the village, it is easy to find food? Did not see any restaurant in your video. Believe you need to drive your own at this village.

The best starting point is the church where you can park the car. From there it’s a short walk up the hill

Hi @januslog, Nice video! Thank you for sharing. We are planning to visit Hallstatt this Sept and planning to stop by at Gosau Village. Need your advice. We will be driving, so where should we stop and have a nice short walk (30 mins) at Gosau Village? We cannot allocate much time because we have only one day to visit Hallstatt and nearby areas. We plan to visit Hallstatt, Gosau Village and Dachstein Krippenstein -5 Fingers.

Park at the church and walk up to the small chapel on the hill (the one I show in the video)
From there you can follow the path along the forest and head back down to the street which takes you back to the church. Shouldn’t take longer than 45 minutes. Don’t miss out on lake Gosau which is a short drive further up the valley though. It’s a beautiful spot too. Wishing you a great trip.

Thank you. Take bus 180 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl and bus 542 from Bas Ischl to Gosau. It will take a bit over 2 hours to get there

Thank you. Both countries are amazing and really beautiful. In terms of budget, Austria is much less expensive. I’d say you get about two weeks in Austria for the price of one week in Switzerland.
