    For anybody with the Q2 i highly reccomend not putting everything to max because it does make it look much better, but it also makes it quite choppy. I would reccomend 75hz refresh rate and 2048 textures, this is what i have mine set to and it still looks as smooth as if you have it on default

      What about CPU/GPU level? Do you leave that on default?

    • @fffrrraannkk
      @fffrrraannkk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Tubularm8 You can ramp that up too if you want. If the game is choppy all you gotta do is turn the screen off then back on for the new settings to kick in. How smooth it runs depends on the game. All these settings works best for games that were made before the Quest 2 or games that aren't optimized for it. So keep that in mind if you made changes in the Home area. If Home runs terrible it doesn't necessarily mean the game you wanna play will too.
      Edit: Also increasing CPU/GPU levels will drain the battery faster than default levels.

Then you can wear out the extension cable female port instead of the female usb-c port on the quest/quest2. Strain reliefs are factory installed on high end equipment.

    • @randomname4726
      @randomname4726 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that would be using your PC to render everything and your Q2 just becomes a VR display like a Rift.
      This video is only talking about increasing the frame rate and texture quality on the standalone Q2.
      If a game is too large you can try bumping up the CPU and GPU power on the Q2 but it will drain battery faster and will not make a massive difference, so you will need to find the right balance of quality that still gets you a high enough frame rate and acceptable battery life.
      If you hook it up to your PC then this is all irrelevant and how good things look will purely depend on how good your PC setup is.

      @@a-bootiful-mind6648 Yeah you need really good wifi. I'm using WiFi 6, 5ghz Asus AX-3000 router and a different brand AX-3000 pci wifi card in my desktop.
      It's only an old series 3 i7 but the GPU is a 3070ti 8GB. I know you are supposed to use a land cable to your gaming PC from your wifi router but it runs mint with no lag using wifi 6 in both directions.
      An Rx580 is probably a bit underpowered but should be able to run simpler stuff and at lower resolution etc. Even the 3070ti struggles and that's over 3x more tflops than an RX580 and ridiculously faster memory speed.

      Dont wipe the fog, just lift the headset off a bit and give a quick blow up towards lenses like you would an eyelash, just a blast...not a long hot breath.
      May also help from adjusting headset or silicone face cover as it can direct hot nasal air towards lenses.

    All I changed, was what you showed in the video. I changed to 2048. It put weird boxes around my vision. I switched to "default" which added black pixels in a pattern across my FoV. Then I tried 2048 again and the screen was almost entirely black. I reset the headset, because people said that the settings revert when it is turned off. Now my guardian is really buggy. While standing in the middle of it, it tells me to return to the guardian, and then it asks me to redraw it. I haven't had a single problem, since October.... I followed this video and now it is basically unplayable. I would strongly recommend NOT doing what is in this video.

    • @jtjones4727
      @jtjones4727 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A lot of it is just there so developers can decide how to prioritize quality versus performance. It takes a pretty beefy system to take a 2880 x 1440 image, composite it into 2 separate video streams (1 for each eye), and also to push a framerate of 80 or 90 fps/hz for each video stream. For example if you have a scene where there is very little motion, they could probably decide to crank up the resolution and detail, and if there was a drop in fps to say 75, without a lot of motion, then you would probably not notice as much, and the possibility of motion sickness is also probably less. Now if you have an action scene lets say, where you are surrounded by enemies and you yourself are also moving a lot, well they would probably prefer to lower resolution and detail, and try to keep the framerate locked at say 80 or 90 hz, not only for fluidity of gameplay but also to prevent motion sickness. For example, if you look into how Half Life Alyx works, the game engine automatically switches between 7 different performance/resolution/detail levels based on realtime gameplay data and feedback.

  • @Avengedsevenfoldxfan
    @Avengedsevenfoldxfan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    what games do you recommend for Steam that works for this? I tried it for Half Life Alyx and it did not work sadly, I tried it in pavlov, but didn't do a full test with all of the others, so I don't know if it was a placebo effect or not, but it does look incredible when you sit and look at everything!!

      It wouldn't work in steam games, because the PC is doing the rendering, while with standalone games, the headset is rendering. With steamvr games it only really depends on your PC hardware. If you have a really good pc, go into steamvr settings and it should say resolution or something like that, and just bump it up to the max.

      look, if you've got the money then I would buy that. Otherwise, I think the better option is to buy a long cable A to C (comes with an adapter) that is a lot cheaper and does the same thing. People have said that cheaper cables like these compared to the $89 "official" one work just as well.
