I'm actually tackling both these projects myself this week. Do you have any tips on getting the 4x4's so perfectly flush together and to the floor? And if you are off a bit, would shims work?

Sorry for the late reply, yes shims should work but you would need to secure it down some how, I used one of the brackets the same one I used to connect on the wall but on the floor and I used 1/4" screws to my laminate floor. Hope this helps.
