- La giovane cantante americana Samara Joy - appena 21 anni - ha attirato l'attenzione della critica internazionale nel 2019, dopo aver vinto il Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition e ora annuncia l'uscita dell'omonimo album di debutto.
Prodotta dal veterano Matt Pierson, candidato ai Grammy Awards, Samara Joy è affiancata dal chitarrista jazz Pasquale Grasso e dal suo trio per un’uscita in Italia che promuove la reputazione di Joy come una delle giovani cantanti jazz più promettenti d’America.

Samara Joy è cresciuta nel Bronx in una famiglia di musicisti . La musica era una presenza pervasiva, grazie all’ispirazione dei suoi nonni paterni, Elder Goldwire e Ruth McLendon, che guidavano il gruppo gospel di Philadelphia, The Savettes.
Lo studio approfondito di cantanti come Sarah Vaughan ed Ella Fitzgerald ha costituito la base del suo primo album. Come lei stessa afferma, “l’ispirazione viene dall’assorbire quanto più possibile del loro stile. È un assaggio di ciò che ho imparato finora e un modo per me di rendere omaggio a coloro che sono venute prima, prestando la mia prospettiva a queste canzoni”.

Two of the brightest new jazz stars! Pasquale is incredible, from a small village in South Italy he went to New York and now he's such an accomplished jazz musician! And Samara Joy is a wonderful singer!
The "small village" - 23.000 inhabitants - come under one of the most artistic place worldwide, the region of Campania that since the early age of our times - 12th century - is one of the cradles of all western musical culture and mostly the vocal.
@@taf44tt8io well, Naples is 3 million inhabitants still we don't have 130 Pasquale Grasso from Naples and I am sure in Naples it is much easier to listen to live jazz music than in Ariano Irpino. And while in Italy it's true that there's so much art and culture in general, jazz music was born in the U.S.A and has its roots in the blues and spiritual music and in the black people's history. That is why I think that it is quite remarkable to become a great jazz guitarist while coming from a small city in Italy.

Do you measure the quality of art to the number of people living a place ? Yet, even in Italy we have CD and radio and any kind of device for listen music.
Music is a worldwide language, it talks from and to our soul, our inner precious place - call it with your favorite word - no matter where and when you come from.
It seems to me that you ignore that among the pioneers of jazz music, there had been some italian guys - mostly from the south of the country - that had to changed their name in an american one.

It's true that from Salvatore Massaro (Eddie Lang) to Giuseppe Passalacqua (Joe Pass) or Al Di Meola many great guitar players have Italian blood, however they all were born in the USA and are indeed Americans (they couldn't even speak Italian). Secondly even if you can learn jazz from records, true jazz music is interplay that you learn by playing a lot with other jazz musicians. My point is that to be born and raised in Italy and reach the elite of the jazz musicians in the world is not easy, quite like to become a top baseball or NBA player. If you think that this doesn't add to the greatness of Pasquale Grasso It's ok I respect your opinion. Have a nice day
