    A video on using an autotransformer for load balancing a small generator (5kVa) for maximum efficiency would be cool. 240V in with split phase 120V out and using the autotransformer to create the neutral.

    Excellent presentation. I have a variable autotransformer, cheap Chinese "Variac" but Variac is a brand. Thinking about the common leg currents is important not to exceed the current rating of the windings.

    The series of videos you have posted about autotransformers is really appreciated. I have an autotransformer to wire for a small drilling machine, I need in the Primary : 480VAC and in the Secondary : 220
    Having an autotransformer 3 PHASE 15KVA with the name plate as follows :
    HV: 600Y/346V (60HZ) 14.4A AND 480Y/277V (50/60HZ) 14.4A
    LV: 480Y/277V (60HZ) 18.0A AND 380Y/219V (50/60HZ) 18.A
    Can I possible get 219VAC ?
    I did a test : Connected 3 PHASE 480VAC on the Primary and on the secondary I got 375VAC, how do I get the 219VAC 3 PHASE ?
    There's a NEUTRAL wire in the transformer
    Any input would be also appreciated

    Hello Zack, enjoyed your video. I think it is important to review transformer polarity when connecting a "mutual induction transformer" as an autotransformer. Obviously, that will determine whether you have a voltage increase or decrease relative to the source. Maybe you covered this in another video?

    Helped me a lot, the only thing I don't understand here is conversion of a mutual transformer to an auto transformer. Do you mean an 1:1 isolation transformer? Since using any standard step down transformer may mean that the primary and secondary may have different current ratings, not only that, the reduced secondary voltage common on most transformers may only allow for a small change in the auto transformers voltage. did you mean a 1:1 transformer. I'm new to all this, could you please explain. Also, how could I tap of midway on the secondary side?

    I really enjoy your videos. I don't understand why the views are not yet in the thousands yet. Maybe key words?... I have an unrelated question. Let's assume I do the same exercise of having a regular 2KVA transformer 480:120V. Even if there might not be a use for this, but if I like to calculate the Apparent Power connecting it as an autotransformer but with the same ratio; 480:120. My S Transformed will be 16.67Ax120V, but what would be my S Conducted?, thus my Total S? This exercise is driving me crazy. Hope you could assist. Thanks Zack

    Hi Zack, my understanding of Auto Xfmrs is that the 5kVA is the rating of the primary and the secondary. As such the VA of each will be equal, the Source and Load will be equal to each other also, but much bigger than the 5kVA of the Xfrmr pri or sec. Comment?

    • @ZackHartle
      @ZackHartle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya that sounds about right. It's different depending on if you buy an autotransformer or if you're just using a mutual induction transformer and wiring it like an autotransformer.

    • @samueljohnson2141
      @samueljohnson2141 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZackHartle at the 15 min, you multiply the 480V x 16.7A. My understanding is that the 2kVA of the secondary would be the 120V x 16.7A, I don't see how you can use the 480V rating across the winding that has 120V across it. That portion of the isolation transformer can not supply 8kVA, it's rating is 2kVA. Primary and Secondary VA have to both equal and are 2kVA, Source and Load have to be equal and are approximately 10kVA. Just trying to understand why you are using this higher voltage, have I been doing these calculations incorrectly?? Thanks.

    Hello, it's impossible, I found out the answer, but I am still wondering what the /277 or /219 are intended for, what good is it to know that Neutral and a Phase would result on /277 or /219 as an example, what's the need of those measurements in the industry ?

    The ignition coil in my old truck has a classic autotransformer design, stepping up voltage from 12V DC to 17,000V. For some reason I assumed the shared neutral pole (that ties the chassis ground to both arms of the transformer) was in the middle, in which case there would be no common winding that carries the sum of current from both sides. I assume the gauge of wire is different on the two sides, since higher gauge wire is only needed for the few turns of low voltage wire. Is there advantage to having the common chassis ground connection tied to one end of the coil, so the current going through the common end is subtractive?

    • @ZackHartle
      @ZackHartle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would think it would be something different. Transformers don't work with DC as there isn't the induction happening without the constant relative motion between conductor and magnetic field.
      I don't know much about ignition coils, but could be something like using the inductive kick off of inductor or something.

    • @halidehelux5221
      @halidehelux5221 ปีที่แล้ว

      The coil on a vehicle works in direct current,so that cannot have the transformer effect, what causes the huge voltage spike is the sudden collapsing field from the spinning rotor in the distributor.

    HOW TO BE SAVED:
    Repent, put faith in Jesus’ blood, put faith in the Gospel, call upon The Lord Jesus Christ and ask Him to save you:
    Acts 20:21
    Authorized (King James) Version
    “testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”
    2 Corinthians 7:9
    "Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing." KJV.
    2 Corinthians 7:10
    "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death." KJV.
    Understand YOU ARE A SINNER and only The Lord Jesus Christ can save you:
    Romans 3:20-26
    Authorized (King James) Version
    “20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”
    Romans 3:10
    "as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" KJV.
    Put your faith in the Gospel:
    1 Corinthians 15:1-4
    "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" KJV
    For added assurance of salvation, call upon the name of The Lord (The Lord Jesus Christ) for salvation:
    Romans 10:8-13
    "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." KJV.
    Believe in the FINISHED work of THE LORD Jesus Christ on the cross. No sacraments or works can save you; only Jesus can save you.
    John 19:30
    Authorized (King James) Version
    “30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”

    Ecclesiastes 7:20
    Authorized (King James) Version
    “20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.”
    Romans 3:10
    Authorized (King James) Version
    “10 as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
    Matthew 10:28
    Authorized (King James) Version
    "28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
    Mark 9:44
    Authorized (King James) Version
    “44 where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”
    Our sins lead us to hell, however, God doesn't want you to go to hell.
    2 Peter 3:9
    Authorized (King James) Version
    "9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
    Mark 2:17
    Authorized (King James) Version
    “17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
    1 John 4:10
    Authorized (King James) Version
