The one thing that I love about this game IS the graphics. It looks really nice, and I think the graphics really add to the atmosphere and fit in just right. Plus, it runs beautifully on my older hardware, a 9800 XT from 2002, maxed out. Talk about optimized.
I like Torchlight 2 more than Diablo 3 Not to say Diablo 3 is bad, I had great fun, but Torchlight seems to have a tighter focus and IMO a better artstyle
No, it's not. It's a simplified Diablo 3. Made by a group of ex blizzard developers and ported to consoles by a porting Studio. I'm not sure why they keep saying runic games. This was ported to consoles by panic button games.
I bought this a while back for £4 in the Steam sales and have just got around to playing it and I am loving it. I have only hit the tip of the iceberg for want of a better term and the tip of the iceberg in this game is a solid 30 hours. My character isn't anywhere near powered up yet and I am loving it. I can't believe I am getting all this gameplay out of £4 lol. Money well spent I have never played any games like this before so cannot comment on how it fares against other games in the same genre but I am loving it and it got lots of high scores
i have 24 hours im less than halfway through i bought it for a low price based on so much gameplay i normally dont like these types of games but im living it so far
NeptunexX PoseidonxX Yes I found it to be lots of fun, I have played for 40 hours but only scratched the surface as it's a massive game of levelling up and getting new gear.
@Craig Wortham THIS game however has a boring lore, is actually slow and lacks in depth. Like, there really isn't much to it. Feels like a half assed game. If it weren't for mods I wouldn't even make it half way through the game.
Gonna start it this weekend. Thanks for the tip. Is there something in between normal and veteran? Or is veteran just a perfect difficulty setting to play on.
Bought this at 2015 Steam Summer Sale. I had such a great time with this game. So great that i'm still playing it, making builds, testing combinations and stuff. It might be one of.the best games i've ever played!
Also worth noting are some little details that show the devs paid attention to gameplay and even player reviews of similar games in the past. For example, having portals pop up right near where you finish a quest reduces backtracking and is a welcome update.
Well I foolishly began normal mode, and you're right. I'm like 3 hours in and it's really easy. I don't mind starting a new playthrough on Veteran or maybe even Elite. Thanks alot for the response! Oh and this game is probably the best 10 bucks I've ever spent lol.
There were a few problems I had with this game all be it, it is a great game 1. The controls can be a bi*ch I died a few times on elite simply because even though I was clicking in an empty spot completely away from the fight the game decided I was actually clicking an enemy this meant instead of backing away and healing my character kept attacking like a moron 2. if your a ranger/mage and an enemy is behind a rock instead of just attacking the rock or not attacking because the LOS is blocked your character will run straight into the enemies face just so its got a clear shot meaning you sometimes accidentally run into a horde meaning sometimes if your trying to attack an enemy and you accidentally click an enemy that isn't in your LOS you'll run towards it, not a pain at lower difficulties but when enemies can 2-3hit you its a pain in the ass 3. lots of the loot is worthless, you'll find yourself pretty much never picking up white gear, green you might pick up if you need some cash but mostly never, you'll collect blue mostly but at higher lvls you might even leave this and just hunt for orange gear, and enjoy grinding 10's of hours for a legendary item, they really shoulda made a grinder or something like 10 whites = green so on 4. The respec only allows the last 3 skills, I thought this was a pain in the ass, a strategy that sucks for the first 20 lvls because your mana/defence etc is to low might be awesome above lvl 20 but you'd need to recreate your character lots of times to test different builds (luckily mods solved that) you can argue well you have to plan ahead but sometimes a skills description sounds completely different than it is. 5.Repetition, dunno about anyone else but I used 3 skills the entire game using the same attack over and over, summons were a pain in the ass I mean you summon something and it'll last 30 seconds now personally I can't be assed to summon something every 30 seconds over and over, they couldn't have made it 2 minutes or something? Other than the above points the game is defiantly good if you play a melee user you wont need to worry as much the bosses are quite fun and unique the story is well... meh -.- but in a game like this story isn't much of an issue.
w0rd, for 20$ this game is way SICK!! Close server support is on the horizon as well from what I've been able to follow on the runic forums due to the huge support this game has received. Something that seemed out of the budget is now within reach. It would be amazing to see this followed through for those who enjoy a closed type system for the vanilla game.
My tips to new players (but old hands) would be to start on veteran mode, and transmute unwanted gems, as you can pick up a lot of mana and health regeneration really easily this way.
There's gear that adds stats to your character, for example I have 213 dex 139 strength 194 focus and 39 vitality on my outlander because of all the stats my gear gives
That's weird because the original torchlight sold really well. In fact it was meant to be a stop gap between making it into a sort of MMO. It was so popular though that they just decided on a sequel with multiplayer support. A game only has to sell D3 numbers if it had that sot of hyper massive budget. Besides last time I looked it was about the 4th most played game on steam, it's selling really well.
Just grabbed Torchlight, and I fully agree, that something special about D2 gameplay is in torchlight, I dont know if its the much faster speed of the game or just the gameplay in general, but it rules.
well, the second one only had 2 of the original diablo creators and of the original 4 or 5 that made Torchlight and one of those was the music composer and you can really tell, the soundtrack is haunting and brilliant.
Torchlight 2 is a must-buy. You will not regret it. The effort they put into this game is incredible. The Multiplayer is very fun; Difficulty increases as more players join, making Teamwork a complete necessity. Also you won't get bored with this game, as you can Re-roll worlds, which means the layout of the entire map will be different, giving you a complete new experience. New Game+ is excellent as well. Honestly, there is no reason not to buy this game. Definitely one of the best games.
Hmm I'll probably get this game at some point. I played through D3 once and I'll probably comeback for another at some point but I have a lot of games on my list of things I want to play.
Normal mode is kinda the easy mode. I found that I barely had to buy potions because the enemies weren't too challenging - I just sell them. In veteran I keep running out of potions because the encounters are more dangerous. Another thing that was missing from normal mode is the gratification of loot drops; I felt like I really needed every upgrade I could get for the tougher challenges ahead. Also, veteran mode is gonna take you longer to complete - which means more hours of gametime!
It makes the game harder. I don't entirely see why you should get some amazing super loot because that would make the game easier... The point of difficulty settings is to make things more or less challenging. It also appeals to a broader audience that way. Casual gamers - lower difficulty. hardcore gamers - Higher difficulty. Also a ton of other games don't give you anything special on harder difficulties. Personally what I usually do is I go through on the mid difficulty then go back on harder
Diablo 3 did nothing but piss me off. This game on the other hand is so much fun, and a simple respec potion you can download from the internet gets rid of my only gripe. I am 50 hours in on veteran mode, and after some experimentation to find the right class for me, I am loving it. Oh, and it's cheap!!!!
Agreed, though I keep on telling myself I should check the game since they've made some big updates to it, but with releases like Guild Wars 2, Borderlands 2 and Torchlight 2 to take up my time I have other games to play lol.
it really feels like the diablo 2 of torchlight. well.. that's probably because of the devs who were working on torchlight were to some part the same guys who made diablo 2... but one way or another, this just seems like the best diablo-style dungeon-crawler/action-rpg thingie to this point for i think the genre needs to make some sort of a big step forward for its next generation of games, but let's see what happens:)
Torchlight 2 isn't even smaller than D3,there's a tonne of maps to do after the main quest line, plus pvp and the rest.I'm having alot more fun playing TL2 than i ever did D3.Great game.
If you're wondering between this and Diablo 3. Just remember, if you're Internet drops, you can keep playing Torchlight 2. Or you can play it through LAN. It has mod support, it's a lot cheaper. It's more of a Diablo sequel than D3.
I bought both games and liked them both. Only problem is 60dollars was expensive and inferno is ridiculous and based around rmah. TL2 on the other hand has a very smooth playability that grows on you.
It is a shame that people continue to cream about comparing Diablo 2 with Diablo 3.Third is just different,it doesnt mean its bad.If you played both d3 and t2,I bet you saw that lots off things in t2 were copied from d3.This is what I'm talking about.
"Few action-RPG's out there achieve such a sublime balance of threat and incentive of making the path through greater and greater power so consistently satisfying. It's one of the best loot-driven action-RPG's out there, and there's plenty of content to keep you hacking and slashing for a very long time" That sounds like a 9/10 game to me. Not saying that's what it deserves, but the score makes perfect sense when you consider what he said in the review.
The developers of it were amongst those who made Diablo2, so it is a lot like Diablo. (more so the earlier ones and no D3) Still a really fun game and not that much money (especially if you pick it up on a steam sale)
I agree on this. Looking into D3 itself by its own merits, is a decent game. But it wasn't able to live up to the Diablo frachise name, mainly because it was developed by people who worked on WoW, and not surprising, alot of WoW influences in the D3. TL2 on the other hand was developed by D1/D2 developers, so it bears alot of similarities in terms of its gameplay.
I totally agree, but Diablo 3 was still fun for me. The graphics, impact and phisics all just felt better and more awesome to me. Especially Act 1 of D3. Voice acting and characters were better in D3 as well. But that's just my opinion. Even though I still think T2 is better than D3.
I WOULD. Those times when your heart GENUINELY skips a beat on dangerous situations is priceless. I play on hardcore because I LOVE THE CHALLENGE, simple as that. Casual players like you would never understand. It's a gamer thing.
This game is great not having to log on and deal with lag. Im a big fan of offline games no one is around to ruin my mood after coming home from work. Just load up the game and play away
The single player is fun as well. It does get a lot harder (I play on Veteran)around act ii without friends but it's still good. I plan on beating the game on SP and doing NG+ online.
I'm not forcing you to. I never said you should buy a 60 dollar game if you don't want to. It's just that it seemed like you looked down upon it because of the price. It is obviously going to be 60$, it's a game that you can just go to the store and buy. Torchlight 2 is a digital only indie game, indie games are almost never 60$.
Torchlight 2 has very high ratings. Games like these are all about preference though. If you like action and playing with friends (which I highly suggest because it's fun to compare loot and have a great time kill stuff) and going through random dungeons with tons of monsters.. this game can give you that. Diablo is similar if not the same as torchlight's game style so you might want to compare the two. Like I said it's all preference. :)
“We're not currently planning a console release. We haven't ruled it out but to do a port like we did last time, would probably not be on the cards, because of the limitations of Xbox Live Arcade, and the fact that we would have to downsample all our artwork this time." - Taken from "Torchlight II Faces Giant Rival Diablo III" article on IGN What were you saying about it being exactly the same?
Well, it's honest of you to admit it.. I definitely think difficulty level is very important and that's the only point I tried to make in this whole thread. That's why games like demon's souls made so much noise, because finally one company decided to return to the basics of difficulty: unforgiving, clear rules, rewarding difficulty level differences..
Yes I paid full price.. never complained, enjoy the game. played it for like 180h and enjoyed the full way but looking back and seeing what I actually got for my money in comparison to other games, and how the game lacks certain stuff and the loot screws you over.. the repairs.. the insane difficultie to get the good items.. is frustrating..
No.What he wanted to say is that it is normal that it owns Diablo 3 becouse it was made by the guys that made Diablo 1 and 2, the best Diablos up to date...
I like Torchlight II as much as the next guy. But I haven't given up hope that one day, there will be a similar action RPG with an actual story and meaningful characters. (I'm talking about Mass Effect and BioShock quality story here.)
Yup. D3 in itself is actually a decent game, but one cannot look past that it carries the title of Diablo, meaning it is the 3rd game in the series, and everyone expects it to be a great improvements over D2. I played D3 and by judging it without seeing its history and the title name, it's a very decent game, but when I look at it from a D2 player's point of view, it's dissapointing.
the game can be fully moderated by the players themselves. buffing characters to a godly level, adding skills to the game, new classes etc makes the game unbalanced, so pvp will probably never be organized by runic games. you can still flag yourself for pvp-combat by typing in /pvp while playing online, but killing other players rewards absolutely nothing.
As someone that plays both games I gotta ask, why can't we enjoy both D3 and TL2? I mean they're both great games that offer something different. I really like D3's way of not locking you into a certain set of skills, which allows for some cool experimentation with your build, while also enjoying TL2's skill tree which make's your build feel unique.
D3 while has it's flaws each patch they are making it better and better. Down the road I can see it being one of the if not the dungeon crawl game out there. It has a ways to go but I am a Diablo loyalist. This game looks great and all and I'm sure it is fun but from reports I've heard from various sources is that people been modding the shit out of this game causing for all types of hacked gear making the game just flat out stupid. Right now I'm sticking with D3, the next patch looks great!
This is one of the best reviews made by IGN so far, the score is totally fair and the reviewer makes accurate assumptions about the entire game. Maybe my opinion won't matter so much as a comment, but I recommend everyone to buy this game. no man alive deserves waking up each morning without knowing what it feels like to play Torchlight II. Runic games outdid themselves this time, and if there was a compelling story to go along with Torchlight II, this game would have been a masterpiece.
See Diablo 3 was the first Diablo game I ever played, and to me it's a very fun game. Mostly cause I enjoy difficult games and inferno is always a challenge. I picked up the D2 battle chest set afterwards and while I did have fun I went back to D3 Not to say D2 was bad, I really enjoyed it. I just prefer the challenge of D3's inferno difficulty.
I love the look of this game... but I often feel like I can't play a game for a long time without a nugget of story as a reward. The multiplayer might make it worthwhile though, as I'm happy to play storyless online shooters and stuff... what to do?
Diablo 3 is much better now since 1.05, they changed the drop rate so that legendary/sets drop every 1-2 hours with max mf instead of 2-3 weeks. You now actually have a chance to get a good legendary item. Its still not perfect but it is 100x better than it was 1 month ago. Farming is actually rewarding and fun now because we actually get items that might be good.
I played Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3 and I like both of them equally...I don't even see a difference in game mechanics or anything like that! To me they feel exactly the same. Diablo with a skin and to look like Torchlight and Torchlight with a skin to look like Diablo so what are people bitching about? I'm curious to find out.
Let's pretend Diablo 3 didn't deserve that. Yeah, that's a good idea. At least Torchlight's style is consistent, so why would people complain, except if they didn't like it to begin with?
Bought 4 pack on steam: 60$ (contains 4 copies of Torchlight 2 and 4 of Torchlight 1) Sold the extra 7 copies to people on the forums for a total of $53 via paypal :D
This game is so fun as itself. Diablo composer a big plus. Better than D3 for sure. But it doesn't feel right knowing you can mod the hell out of the game and change everything. I wonder how it would be if it was all server based like other MMO's
rediscovering this game after so many years, still hold up, incredible fun
I like how the coop player's name was "Diablo." lol
+Christopher Rankin Yeah haha
it means devil in spanish which is probably why they could get away with it
@@getrekt3983 he meant that a game is called Diablo which is very similar to this but much more popular
@@getrekt3983 this is literally a diablo clone and diabloe developers worked on it. Lol
Played this last summer. I even wrote a 2 hour review of this game. It's crazy. Loved it, never played a Diablo game. Hope they make Torchlight 3.
that would make me so happy that i will explode with ember and loot all around : )
Torchlight Frontier 2019 bby

best top-down rpg i've played....though diablo 2 was the pioneer..
the perfect offline game to keep on your hard drive. timeless stylized graphics, and a ton of fun and customization. modding scene is nice too.

hey man, we all agree that the steam sale is great...
But that's just gross.
I got torchlight 2 for free on gog.com

I'm here for the 2018 Steam Sale
The real Diablo 3...
Droogie128 Yeah, what Blizzard didn't do on D3, Runic did with mastery.
Uh no, Path of Exile BEEN the real D3

Diablo... cheeky bastered.
5$ on steam right now (and finally available on MAC) !!!
Gonna start it this weekend. Thanks for the tip. Is there something in between normal and veteran? Or is veteran just a perfect difficulty setting to play on.
Best $5 I’ve ever spent!!! I’m addicted
Bought this at 2015 Steam Summer Sale. I had such a great time with this game. So great that i'm still playing it, making builds, testing combinations and stuff. It might be one of.the best games i've ever played!
Got it for £3.74. Fantastic so far and its better when playing with a mate.
Also worth noting are some little details that show the devs paid attention to gameplay and even player reviews of similar games in the past. For example, having portals pop up right near where you finish a quest reduces backtracking and is a welcome update.
I had a blast playing trough Torchlight 2 and recommend it to anyone who is into Rpg hack and slash games!

it's feels more like a Diablo game than Diablo 3 did.
I used to play this when I was 8 , I loved it so much
bought this game cause of this review. But i found it very boring and kinda soulles.
you probably should try the fate series
Are you saying the fate series is soulless or good cause I have a hard time understanding XD

1:15 that man named Diablo, he is the anarchist of video gaming
They both look very similar. I have never played any of these "grind" games. If I was interested in This or Diablo 3, what do you guys recommend?
Hmm I'll probably get this game at some point. I played through D3 once and I'll probably comeback for another at some point but I have a lot of games on my list of things I want to play.
And here is me playing it again on the console version, even more addictive!!
Do u have to play the first one? And also can u play solo?

D3 = Fancy resume / flashy presentation / a card without a gift
TL2 = Meaty portfolio / in-depth presentation with a fat font / a gift without a card
Bought it on the steam summer sale, couldn't be happier. Thank you based Valve!

"Few action-RPG's out there achieve such a sublime balance of threat and incentive of making the path through greater and greater power so consistently satisfying. It's one of the best loot-driven action-RPG's out there, and there's plenty of content to keep you hacking and slashing for a very long time"
That sounds like a 9/10 game to me. Not saying that's what it deserves, but the score makes perfect sense when you consider what he said in the review.
question on ps4 are you really limited to only 8 slots for "hot key" abilities? Am I missing how to do something?
Noticed
The single player is fun as well. It does get a lot harder (I play on Veteran)around act ii without friends but it's still good. I plan on beating the game on SP and doing NG+ online.
I'm not forcing you to. I never said you should buy a 60 dollar game if you don't want to. It's just that it seemed like you looked down upon it because of the price. It is obviously going to be 60$, it's a game that you can just go to the store and buy. Torchlight 2 is a digital only indie game, indie games are almost never 60$.
You had me at "uniquely to the individual loot drop"
Torchlight 2 has very high ratings. Games like these are all about preference though. If you like action and playing with friends (which I highly suggest because it's fun to compare loot and have a great time kill stuff) and going through random dungeons with tons of monsters.. this game can give you that. Diablo is similar if not the same as torchlight's game style so you might want to compare the two. Like I said it's all preference. :)
when I played yesterday there were about 3 pages of servers to join. I say if you like dungeon crawlers, this game is heaven
“We're not currently planning a console release. We haven't ruled it out but to do a port like we did last time, would probably not be on the cards, because of the limitations of Xbox Live Arcade, and the fact that we would have to downsample all our artwork this time." - Taken from "Torchlight II Faces Giant Rival Diablo III" article on IGN
What were you saying about it being exactly the same?
wow i had my doubts but this looks amazing
Is the multiplayer aswell as end game any good tho?
This game will be FREE on the Epic Games Store on July 16 for a week.
Right now I'm sticking with D3, the next patch looks great!
im thinking of getting this game but do mods work if both players have the same mod?
Hi just want to ask, can this game be played in offline/solo mode?
I just prefer the challenge of D3's inferno difficulty.
i do like it more, tough it isn't as complacated as dablo 3. i do like that complexness but some may not
I wouldn't call the visuals "unique", but it does seem fun.
Embermage with Prismatic Bolt and Magma Hammer! I feel like I made the right choice! XD
This is why I love Torchlight 2 you can mod it has more replayablility ect.
Thank you Charles you did the right thing. Excellent score. Anything less than 8.5 would have sucked.
Let's pretend Diablo 3 didn't deserve that. Yeah, that's a good idea. At least Torchlight's style is consistent, so why would people complain, except if they didn't like it to begin with?
Bought 4 pack on steam: 60$ (contains 4 copies of Torchlight 2 and 4 of Torchlight 1)
Sold the extra 7 copies to people on the forums for a total of $53 via paypal :D
This game is so fun as itself. Diablo composer a big plus. Better than D3 for sure. But it doesn't feel right knowing you can mod the hell out of the game and change everything. I wonder how it would be if it was all server based like other MMO's
Thanks! Didn't know there was a sale!
