I can second this! I've watched them recently as I'm transitioning to vegan and they've all completely opened my eyes to the horrors of animal cruelty, exploitation, and how agriculture affects the environment.
I can second this! I've watched them recently as I'm transitioning to vegan and they've all completely opened my eyes to the horrors of animal cruelty, exploitation, and how agriculture affects the environment.
my favourite documentary is 'born in to brothels' which is such a heartwarming documentary about a photographer who goes in to the brothels to capture life there but ends up teaching the children photography and giving them another option in life.
Tbh, my favorite documentary right now is I Know That Voice, which is all about voice acting and its origins, bigwigs, etc. They interview lots of actors from childhood cartoons about the industry and it's super cool. It's available on Netflix right now as well!
The Cove and Blackfish are great documentaries. The Cove is about dolphin hunt in Japan, Blackfish about orcas in captivity ( it focusses especially SeaWorld).
I like your favorites videos. Glad you added documentaries to your favorite things. I'd like to recommend some documentaries. 1.Being Elmo:A puppeteer's journey 2.The King of Kong(It's about a man who's trying to defeat the world champion of donkey Kong, an arcade game.) 3.The short game(It's about best 7 years old golfers.)
The Summit is a GREAT documentary about the 11 people who died whilst claiming K2. You also absolutely have to see all the ones of Netflix! I don't know all their names, theres one about men finding love with Russian women, about a young girl being adopted to an american family, obviously black fish and true cost as well. ah just all the documentaries!! xx
There's a documentary called 'Hot Girls Wanted' which was produced by Rashida Jones (from Parks and Recreation) and I found it super interesting! You can watch it on Netflix, or putlocker, and it's about the porn industry. Essentially, it follows a group of 18-25 year old girls, and their beginnings in the industry.
Scott Helman! Knew right who you were talking about. Been to WOTE's show as well last month. Best concert of the year, so much energy and happiness! :)
This is so much more interesting than most monthly favourites I've seen because you actually include things like books and music, I love that! Hope you have a great rest of trip in New York! Wish I was back there! 😋 xx
Go to Bubby's cafe in the Meat Packing district of Manhattan. the best brunch you'll have, blueberry pancakes, bacon and maple syrup. It also places you right at the start of the Highline, an awesome converted railway now scenic walk way
I recently watched the Glen Campbell Documentary which is a little before your time but it was great. It documents his final tour and recordings while slipping deeper into alzhiemers. A great Alzhiemers awareness film as well. Nostalgic if you grew up hearing his music while riding in cars with your dad. :) Such a talented guy with such a great voice. It's on netflix.
For documentaries, I'd rec Finding Vivian Maier, who was a photographer that only became famous a few weeks after she died. I had no idea who she was before I watched it, but it's sooooooooo good and inspiring.
Other docus to check out: Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father -- You will need a box of tissues. A whole box. No lie. Miss Representation - The way women are portrayed in media. Hot Coffee - Remember that woman who spilled hot coffee on herself and then sued McDonalds? This tells the story from another perspective and it seriously blew my mind. I had no idea what tort reform was before I saw this and now I'm full of rage! Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom - This one recently destroyed me. It follows the uprising that drove Viktor Yanukovych from his presidency. And what happened after. Mile…Mile & A Half -- I recommend this one because it's about a bunch of average people who hike the John Muir Trail (219 miles), and it reminds me of your trip hiking through the US. It's so inspirational and despite the fact that I don't like to camp, this made me want to do a long hiking trip.
A few of my favourite docs: Queen of Versailles The Artist is present Dear Zachary The September Issue Girl 27 Great Crimes and Trials series, Life with Murder Cropsey Casting By
well, I'm Brazilian and there's this documentary director who's really famous and important to our national film industry, his name is Eduardo Coutinho and some of my favorites of his are: Edifício Master (about the people who live in one of the largest and oldest buildings of São Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil), As Canções (interviews of regular people talking about songs that marked their lives in some way) and Jogo de Cena (interviews that mix actors and non-actors telling their life stories. it's impossible to know which are acting and which aren't). and there's another two really, really good ones that are also Brazilian but I can't remember the names of the directors: Tarja Branca (about adulthood and childhood in the modern age, loosing one's inner child and the ability to play) and Janela da Alma (about photography and vision and the poetics of what's to be seen). hope they're not too hard to find, all the way out there in the UK! if you get interested and can't find them online, get in touch! I have 'em all on my computer (: have a nice day, Hannah
I've also been binge watching documentaries lately. Two of the ones I really enjoyed were Secrets of Richard III and Secrets of Henry VIII's Palace. Both of them are on Netflix.
Congrats on getting verified! :) I've seen a lot of documentaries over the years, but I can't think of the name to any of them at the moment. Loved the video! Thanks for the recommendations! :)
I got the book of george the poet for my birthday! it's amazing! every poem hits me somewhere right in the feels. I can't wait to see him live one day. he's goals for me (I like to think I'm a poet too haha)
Hannah. You recommend The Martian in your last favourites or the one before and OH MY GOD you have ruined my life for the past couple of days it's SO GOOD. Honestly, amazing! Thank you so much 💛
My favourite documentary is 'this film is not yet rated' it's about the rating system in the USA (like pg R not 3/5) and how they judge certain aspects more harshly than others
I was so happy for you when I saw the instagram photo of you outside the Museum of Sex! Also, so obsessed with that shirt! Hope you're having fun in NYC :)
I just finished watching Honor Diaries on Netflix. It's a docu about female oppression in Muslim-majority societies and covers honor killing, FGM, forced marriage, and other related topics. It is centered on a group of women's rights advocates who are Muslim, so that helps take it from preachy to very, very inspiring. Definitely check it out!
bowling for columbine is an incredible documentary about american gun law and everything surrounding the subject. Packed not only with clever and interesting insight; touching, poignant and moving interviews and clips but brilliant satire and humour. Worth the watch :)
Ooh documentaries are ace! I have a list as long as my arm to recommend you but I'll try to keep it concise! Blackfish, Waltz With Bashir, An Inconvenient Truth, Searching For Sugarman, Virunga. Although some might consider them travel series I'd recommend The Long Way Round and Down, if for nothing else seeing Ewan McGregor riding a motorbike and looking fine as fuck whilst doing it! I could easily go on for a long(er) time, but I'll leave it at this Vice do a fair few of interesting documentaries as well :)
I recommend you check out the podcast app on your iPhone. There are so many cool podcasts on there but my favourite has been Desert Island Discs. It's so interesting to hear about the lives of the celebrities and their music choices which also gives you new music to listen to. :)
I saw Hot Girls Wanted on Netflix, which was produced by Rashida Jones. It's about the porn industry, specifically the way young girls who become part of the industry are affected by it. I thought it was really good, didn't break as much ground or really get to a powerful point, but was very informative all the same. I've never stopped hearing good things about both The Act of Killing and The Look Of Silence, two documentaries about the genocide in Indonesia.
I fucking love documentaries. For some reason every skateboarding documentary I've watched has been crazy good, i skateboarded for like a day and was like na but the documentaries are so good Im obsessed. Blackfish is great, I reluctantly recommend Cowspiracy as I adore animal products but we really can't survive as a species eating it anymore. Gah I'm trying to remember more, literally anything by Louis Theroux is great. Fed Up is pretty good too.
You should watch a documentary called 'Born into Brothels'. It won an oscar in 2004. It's amazing. You can watch it on youtube(because I'm not sure where else you could find it)
For documentaries I recommend Jesus Camp. It's about an extreme evangelist summer camp for children and is quite entertaining but if you analysis it too much it suddenly becomes very scary. The editing is done well and even though there is no narration the easy the different speakers are cut together tells a story on its own. I think it's on Netflix but I can't be sure.
My favourite BOOK this month is Every Man Dies Alone by Hans Fallada. It's based on a true story about a couple who were part of the German Resistance during WW2! You should check it out! It really gives an insight into the German Resistance and how the Nazis dealt with it! :)
i really loved indie game: the movie! it's really good even if you don't like video games at all, it's got really amazing production and the way it presents the idea of people's passion and the drive to create and share is really amazing, you should watch it
believe it or not i think i have a translation of that book in spanish??, my friend and i bought it as a joke at an old books fair thing and the publisher is called the vertical smile and now i have realize that i left it in plain sight at home (i'm away at college rn) and that might not have been suck a good idea... ALSO YAY OMG THE ROCK VERIFIED, CONGRATS YOU ROCK ehh??
YOU WENT TO TORONTO AND IM IN EUROPE INSTEAD! I'm so sad :( also I've just noticed that you can tell if someone is from around Toronto by how they say it. People from the area leave out the second t. The more you know
Killing the makeup game. Missing you already! xx

Documentaries I recommend are cowspiracy, earthlings, and forks over knifes - all life changing!
Yes I'd recommend Cowspiracy too- it's on Netflix. And earthlings sounds good I might watch that some time soon!
I can second this! I've watched them recently as I'm transitioning to vegan and they've all completely opened my eyes to the horrors of animal cruelty, exploitation, and how agriculture affects the environment.

Your hair looks so gorgeous in this video Hannah!! :)

The Cove and Blackfish are great documentaries. The Cove is about dolphin hunt in Japan, Blackfish about orcas in captivity ( it focusses especially SeaWorld).
I would love to see you vlog! America is usually pretty interesting to vlog about what you're doing that day or what you've already done there!
"The true cost" is a documentary on netflix. It's an informative look into the fast fashion industry... it will change how you look at fashion.
I like your favorites videos. Glad you added documentaries to your favorite things.
