started begging my grandfather at 14 every chance I got to get on the backhoe or the loader or the dozer by the time I was 16 was working for him 10 of the best years of my life we had that kind of connection he would just have to look at me and I would know he wanted the grade up if I was grading or little deeper on a dig miss those days your a lucky man god bless

I love watching heavy machine operations having been a heavy machine operator as was my father who had tickets to many machines from steam face shovels to heavy swamp dozers to heavy draglines He did a lot of canals in the fifths and sixtys .I guess machines are in my blood love your work stay safe

Those roads look really slick
This brings back memories,I actually know a little bit about how to operate a JD770A.The reason why is when I was a kid the county had two of them they used to maintain the roads where I lived.The road we lived on was about 4 miles long and dirt the whole way.
The Grader operator was a man named Mr Hubert.I and my neighborhood friends were all about 8 or 10 at the time and everytime we heard the Grader coming we would run out to met it. Mr Hubert would stop the machine and let us kids ride in the cab with him and over a couple years he showed us all he knew about how to run that Grader,plus he had some company it what was probably a boring job.
I'll always remember him and that machine,it was the neatest thing that he took the time with us.
Neat story. It's too bad, that there aren't many who will/can take the time to do that anymore.

I think it's so cool we have a tool like you tube were we can watch good videos of people and machine's working together and u doing what u love. I've always enjoyed running equipment it's a way of life.
When you work together for some time, each knows what each is thinking and needing to do, it's called "team work" for a reason. Some people have it, some don't unfortunately. Another great video, cheers :)

I worked with my Dad for many years. It's a very special thing to be able to do.

Its a great thing when you can work beside your dad all day! My wife gets mad when she is working around my dad and i, we communicate with out talking! She feels like shes being left out! Lol

Hey Tim, one operator to another a trick I found helped me out many times pulling on water trucks or scrapers. When the road grader starts to spin I would articulate back and forth. Made a huge difference in traction. Again thanks for the great videos...

Definitely need to get that switch looked at. Probably wouldn't of had any problems pulling that truck if the front wheels were locked in. I'd imagine even doing any type of grading would be extremely difficult as well.

years ago when I was driving a tow truck I got called out to tow a grader out of the mud. Some guys had borrowed the local councils grader to do their own drive and got stuck. I was called in to get it out before the county foreman got back to his office and noticed it missing. I broke the tow cable twice trying to get it out using a three sheave snatch block...ha ha . used a D 9 to push it out in the end.

I used run a Cat 16 Blade back in the 70's its a BIG machine. I was completely surprised when you got out of your Blade and you slide the Control unit forward on it. I didn't know that they did that. Progress. That is cool.

You're driving what you need to dry that road up with...a dozer won't dry up a road but a grader will..2 hours of sunlight and 4 passes..you should see dust coming off the road...and it should set up like a rock with that red clay...

Hi Cottontop, I'm a new subscriber thanks to WTFarm Girl. On this video it was a little intense. It made you think like you were a snow plower keeping the roads clear of mud LOL. I didn't think that grader was going to get that truck out, I thought it was going to be a big project.

Y’all need a good military 6x6 truck to forward them loaded trailers out to the good roads when you have conditions like this. Some of them have big Tulsa winches on them that can pull just about anything out.
That road looks great compared to one we use in Sumter County.
Dirt track racer got upon the wheel seesawing the wheel, I have fond memories riding a road grader with my uncle the finish grade

I knew where you were before you answered it about the monies. Had a phone call this morning from the timber company near me about working on the county road. And the Deer flies. Ate me up walking land lines last week.Bad this year for sure. By the way, enjoyed the ride along .
I’ve pull my Dads truck out, too, many times...
Some dairy farmers just don’t have the equipment to plow there own driveways so that’s where I came in, plowing and and pulling that milk truck to the milk barns..
Dad owned serval dairy’s and had a daily milk route of about 15 other dairy’s, too..

Loved running road graders. The first one I ever run was a John Deere 672A the one with the “ T “ handle and had to operate the steering wheel with your knee. Then was up graded to the 672B where all the controls were by the steering wheel, the hardest part running that was remembering you didn’t have the “ T “ handle..lol. Then came the 772 CH that thing was a beast had 3 times the power of the A and B combined. Besides the power it had the best thing was the auto greasing if I remember right there was only a handful of zerts to hand grease including the circle. Do you run a flat board or stingers? We used stingers. In PA where I’m from most of our dirt roads are gravel so stingers work great. Great video keep up the great work.
Make suer you check your front wheel drive motors out on that machine friends of mine have one and motors went out cost 20,000 to replace them.

Have you ever tried Yankum kinetic recovery ropes, seem like they would work very well when your in very muddy conditions yanking equipment & trucks out of the mud.

Your front tire not pulling. Why not bring in a couple of loads of pea gravel. It would stiffen up that road.
Depends on the county actually, some frown upon individuals putting down gravel, others, appreciate it. However, the drawback is, how much would that put Tim and his Dad in the hole for? Gravel ain't cheap anymore. If they could get the county to split the cost, I'm sure that would help offset their cost but, even then, time is money. Means have to out weight the costs.
Ham68 they might be able to get it from the county. They wohld have to get with the Road manager. Also they may be able to get free used pea gravel from a roofing contractor.

I noticed the logs were not tied down on your days trailer do you wait until the trucks reach the blacktop? Or do you not strap them down at all? My dad and grandfather were loggers over in Alabama.
It was actually tied down. We use cables to tie our loads with and they’re hard to see at a distance.

i m suprised you cut exactly as i do.
and believe in big power short bar . let the saw do the work. i sharpen by hand without guide.
However i dont in woods...but change chain & clean bar. ( 5 chains per day).
told people same as you but they dont listen. so when you showed all this and cut 38 inch with 20 ..it tickled me and said to myself yep yep yep, finnaly someone that agrees with me.
i ve cut cleaned cleared trimed skidded bucked stacked loaded trucked debarked headsawer grader loaded and trucked to finnish miller.
