A Windigo is exactly that actually. In Native American culture it’s a spirit that possesses a person if they resort to cannibalism and turns them into a monster. So they took it from there
76, unlike earlier games uses heavy inspiration from Appalachian folklore whether it's Wendigo, Mothman or others. Earlier games, especially New Vegas used common critters from Arizona region. I like it much more than the 76's interpretation.
Kangaroo deathclaws, Radspiders (funnel web and huntsman variants), Wombat mole rats, koala drop bears, Dingo Nightstalkers spliced with an Inland Taipan, Emu terror birds and on top of that a few classics such as ghouls... Fun XD
I wasn't a big fan of Fallout 76's gameplay. But the design elements (particularly the cryptids and other monsters) are some of the best in the series. The world design is also pretty impressive.

My first Fallout was 4, so I had no idea they were a low tier enemy,I went by their appearance and I had to work up the courage to keep going on that route (I was doing the wasteland survival guide)
A subset of the ghouls, the marked men of the Divide, are extra horrifying. They were once NCR and Legion, fighting in the area before it became the Divide. The harsh sand and winds of the Divide flayed them to the muscle, which should kill them, but the radiation keeps them alive. The whole time they're still fully sentient and have banded together to kill anything that isn't them.
I'll say this: the Deathclaws are worse. Cazadors are tricky but you can at least use VATS on their antennae, which makes them go crazy. Deathclaws... almost nothing works.
I think the FO3 centaurs should have been number 1. Those are the only creatures that freaked me out. Well, maybe those and FO3's abominations. Although, the first time I saw a hermit crab at the drive-in in Far Harbor, I thought they were awesome.

For its (many) flaws, Fallout 76 has some killer ideas in regards to the cryptids. The wendigo is one of them, but another one worth mentioning (at least, regarding this list) is the Snallygaster. The thing is a bulbous sack of flesh that spits acid, has waaaaaay too many eyes, and has a hideous sound it makes.
Fog Crawlers are in Fallout 76 and usually reside in the Mire or sometimes the Cranberry Bog. Try doing the event “Fog Crawler Horde in The Mire” and you’ll face at least 7 of them and it’s INSANE
My buddy Tom was so sketched out by the mirelurks that he wouldn't even explore valuable vaults if they had those in them. He was in his twenties at the time btw. Lol.

Fog crawlers appear in 76, predomintly in the Cranberry bog area. Usually seen in random encounters, or some events such as the scorched beast queen event.
I’m very happy 76 made so many on this list. The game is like playing in the world of Love and Monsters which is an amazing movie. Fog Crawler is in 76 as well though. And the Windigo has a boss that’s even more creepier. Love Fallout and 76 is a game of freight and fight now. Good list
If you don't trade out the artificial heart you get in the beginning of old world blues for your original the cazador becomes significantly less dangerous to anyone who is properly equipped

The real monsters are humans. Humans are far more dangerous than any arthropod. Most other animals fear humans or avoid them. I blame the media for villainizing arthropods and them out to be horrifying monsters.

Centaur is clearly the most horrible of all of them, It is so deformed that it isn't even able to scream or make a noise, It just runs towards you with flying tentacles out of its mouth
There’s a mod for fallout 4 that adds the centaurs, and seeing them in game is pure nightmare fuel 😂 You can get Nightkin too and the invisible suicider is an absolute menace.
It is absolutely confirmed in vault 76 that wendigos are humans. In the wendigo cave you fight the progenitor wendigo you find letters and evidence that the wendigo in the cave was a ex member of the gourmand, he and his wife we're kicked out and took shelter in the cave they ambushed travelers and ate them once the wendigo curse took over he ate his wife.
Cazadors really are annoying. But there was another bug in the Fallout games which I really think are disgusting aswell. I forgot the name but they have really really long legs and can suck your blood bonedry.
Good thing that Fallout is a series about mutations and radiation, so the devs have total freedom to create (and to change) creatures as they want, simply using the good old "they mutated!"...

If the normal range of Fog Crawlers isn't enough for you, be over Lvl 70 and help Far Harbor with their sidequests - then the Shipbreaker appears on the island, and that thing is a Grade A C**t-version of the Crawler

Wendigo in Native American lore is a person who is so greedy and selfish they are punished with an endless hunger and greed for all things. This drove them to devour everything that is stockpiled for their people to survive the cold months. When all of the saved and wild resources are completely gone they feast on their own family and complete the terrible transformation. Immortal and starving, wondering the world destroying and consuming all.

The aliens in m.zeta are not the same as abominations, what youve show were just the shielded aliens, the alien abomination is terrifying and one of the biggest scares i got from F3 was via said creature, please look into this and research it properly, they are multides scarier and more powerfull than the aliens and you find them in the laboratories half way thru the dlc

Cazadors made me put down New Vegas for months! I thought to myself...if the bugs in the game is THIS hard, I have no chance in finishing this game.
I forgot all about the cazadors in New Vegas. I was expecting the bloodbug to make an appearence but i guess not.

the ghouls in the subway of fallout 3 were the stuff of nightmare's. Some of the best horror sequences were the subways of the capitol wasteland.

The monsters... one of the pivotal parts of a single player FPS, the more scary, the more you will tolerate monotony in the campaign.

I had never played a fallout game before until fallout three and when I first saw a centaur I screamed and threw my controller across the room
