You CAN cut AGAINST the grain people... Actually its better, you get ALL the hairs... All you do is go a guard up... If you get a #1 with the grain.. Use a #2 AGAINST the grain.. Im a barber and a former waver.. And thats how i used to cut my waves..against the grain..cleaner cut

The cut would of looked better and easier to cut if he had washed it first. Wash it and throw something light like a butter if you need the hold versus a pomade and the end result will look clean and neat.

AJ Smith you can go against the grain.. Just got up a guard... I was waving for years and a barber as well.. If you usually get a #1 with tthe grain, use a #2 against the grain...waves have to already be established tho... Trust me..
