  • This is one in a series of “Vodcasts” produced by the IAEA that discuss the basics of the safe transport of radioactive material. For a good general understanding of the transport of radioactive material, it is encouraged that all ten of the IAEA Vodcasts on this subject be viewed.

Remember getting several radioactive transport packages from a Sandia Labs auction years back. They were empty of course, but the instructor for the RSO course at UW madison liked them for showing students the difference in requirements for fissile vs high gamma vs alpha and beta. The plutonium canister for example had a special filter on the top to release pressure and was little more than a regular Vollrath can with a thick blue boron loaded silicone rubber insert which was very surprising to say the least.
