....I just had big issues to square the board I'm making, I love woodworking because it's my happy and relax time, and then I get pissed off. These videos calm me a lot, wish I had your equipment!
The maple strip turned out nicely as an accent piece to the bottom of the board and complements the maple splines. (It's not a mistake, it's a feature.)
Thanks. You're absolutely right about the saw. I've made that same mistake numerous times. I think it's counter intuitive to have the gold Veritas brand on the side that goes away from the work piece, and that always throws me off. I should remember to read the fine print on the other side. 😊
This is wonderful work. One question, - is there any benefit of using playwood below the brown and white wooden squares? Does it make board strong? There are some boards which do not have plywood below squares, do we face any issues with those in long usage????
If you use solid wood, the wood will expand and probably pop the joint on the frame, or warp the board. By gluing to the ply substrate (which wont expand), you are stabilising the board somewhat. If the grain on the bottom piece runs counter to the grain on the top, this will also help to stop the board warping. Any true solid wood board should not have a frame, and if it does, it is very likely to become scrap wood at some point in the future. Not sure if you're asking about the drum sander or the handheld random orbit sander. The drum sander is a SuperMax 19-38 sold by Laguna Tools. The random orbit sander is a 6" Mirka Deros sander amzn.to/3o8MMCN It's not an inexpensive tool, but a great purchase if you do a lot of sanding.
I do take custom orders (like this one) and could definitely make something to your exact specifications. You can email me at woodumakeit@gmail.com if you'd like to discuss in more detail.
The trick that I use is to lift up the back end of the board ever so slightly when feeding it into the planer and then lifting up the front end as the board exits the planer. This has worked really well for me and I almost never have any snipe.
Fantastic work Mike🙌. I would make it. I don’t believe you’ve made a chess board video for sometime now. I always enjoy watching your consistency. You have a nice set-up. Why is your planer on the ground though?
That's a good question. I want to keep the planer on wheels so I can move it out of the way, when needed, but maybe it's time to build a cabinet under it to raise it up off the ground and to give me some additional storage space.
I aspire to build stuff as pretty as your do. When you were using the mitre saw I couldn’t help but not notice cause I have a dexcom. Are you diabetic ?
@@ScoobySnackOGNo problem at all! I wouldn't choose anything else. I've used a couple of pumps with tubes while participating in clinical trials and don't like them at all. There is much more freedom with the Omnipod when it comes to showering, swimming, etc. and there's no tube to deal with.
No , I wouldn't make it because I like flush surface boards. Raised playing area above the border has always seemed a bit clunky to me. I prefer a board that is part of a game table top with room for captured pieces and chess clock + elbow room and perhaps , a cuppa tea. Cheers
Glad to see you’re still making videos, I only about a month ago found your Chanel really enjoy watching you make these amazing chessboards
Love your work. It's absolutely wonderful and has inspired my own chess board project.
So satisfying seeing all the steps and pieces fitting perfectly, Zen four my soul.
What an elegant fix! Great job, beautiful as always
Wonderful as always Mike. Great job
Thanks!
GREAT board, the layers really give it wonderful defination and the attention to the bottom really "seals" the deal ! !! !!!
I always love watching a craftsman at work
Great looking chess board! Nice work.

I'm so happy for a new chess vid!!!
Stunning piece, Mike! Really amazing work! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

I believe Bob Ross made a statement concerning this very thing :'D
Excellent work, beautiful chessboard, great video thank you for sharing it.
Beautiful job, man.
Beautiful work as always. Thank you for such a peaceful build. BTW: That flush trim saw goes the other way toward the work.

@@Woodumakeit It is. Why wouldn't they want their logo facing out, right?
Man I love the board so much, but I wanted to know what chess pieces are on top of the chess board when taking photos of the final product?
Bravo!
Thank you.
Agradecido por ver sus obra

Nice job
Great work! Does anyione know what kind of sander that is?

Yep, type 1 for 30+ years. That's an Omnipod on my arm and I wear a Dexcom on my ab.
@@Woodumakeit kind of personal so I apologize I don’t mean to pry. How do you like the omni pod, I really want to get one but I’ve been on the fence

If I had a dollar for each time I cut into a tenon or biscuit. Nice recovery.
