    To be able to hate the Other with a good conscience and get the adrenaline rush that goes with righteous indignation - that's what the appeal is

    • @LUV733
      @LUV733 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Beautifully expressed. The energetic charge of being triggered by "an- other's" view is potent and addictive as it engenders a false sense of empowerment. Sadly it has the potential - as is presently apparent- - to create deeper divisiveness and polarities in "communities" & the "divide and rule" intention is accomplished. The people are at war with each other.....

    • @borderlands6606

      The appeal is low hanging fruit. To be able to claim the moral high ground without any personal effort and at no risk to oneself, is the attraction.

    “‘Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.’”
    -Syme on Newspeak, Orwell's 1984

    • @marieparker3822
      @marieparker3822 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Orwell is right about political oppression and dictatorship, but wrong about language - he was not a psychologist or psycholinguist (in any case, psycholinguistics has advanced a lot in the past 75 years). The definition of 'Newspeak' assumes that there is no thought without language. This is a mistake. Concepts are possible without language - scrubbing words out of the dictionary or books will not destroy concepts. Pre-linguistic babies have concepts, as well as non-human primates - and possibly, to a lesser extent, other mammals (psychologists have obsessionally demonstrated this).

      @@marieparker3822 Language is about communication, not concepts. And Orwell was right, you cannot express your thoughts if you cannot describe them so other people understand them. @@marieparker3822 yes. Words as violence is simply the incubatory step of criminalizing thought. Minority Report on deck. It ends up being like Shrodinger's cat. People/animals do in fact feel things (they came first, not second) without a formal language being needed. The language simply codifies it in a way that allows for the idea to be transferable, **but at the cost of intrinsic fidelity**. Think of a hug with no words spoken or thought. A cat just fed and purring expresses contentment without saying it. Words are subject to the telephone effect/a tape that has been copied and degraded -- they are an abstraction. Hearing and experiencing the cat purr is not the same as telling someone the cat was purring.
      I apologize for the imperfect analogies, but they show the limits of words.

    My oldest sister is a very successful and intelligent woman..... but sadly, she too has been sucked into the woke ideology. I have one other sister and there are four brothers, and our eldest sister is far and away the most successful financially and in terms of social status and economic class. It is such a stark difference that I have sometimes gotten the impression (perhaps falsely) that she is somewhat embarrassed by the stock she was born among. She recently sent out an Email to her siblings which essentially amounted to a virtue signaling, false humility declaration. It discussed stats on income levels across racial demographics and the number of white males in political office, etc... all the typical "proofs" offered for male and white privilege. What she ended up saying was that she formerly thought her success in life was due to her hard work and intelligence, but she had come to realize she was simply born on "third base" by virtue of being "white" and therefore had a very short way in order to "score".
    Now one of the things I found so amusing about this was that she sent it to four white males whom she claims to love, and not a single one of them are anywhere near her level of success and wealth... not one of us is even in the ballpark with her. And yet, according to what she said and how she said it, all four of her brothers would have been born halfway to home from third base; we would have been born in a far better position than even her.... and yet not one of us would say we had really been able to "score", at least at the level she has achieved. And she is completely oblivious to how insulting and demeaning she came across to her four brothers. We joke about it with one another, of course: "Hey bro, you still sitting somewhere between home and third base? Yeah, me too. What the hell is wrong with us?"

    People do not use critical thinking and are fooled by manipulation of the words used to deceive them. I am reminded of a quote " truth always rests with the minority" by Kierkgaard. Ask a woke person what is meant by the words they are using and they look at you as if you were a fool but they can not define what they are saying except to repeat it. I have had a friend go hysterical when I asked if she had researched the subject we were discussing and tried to calm her down dropping the subject. She got what she wanted but you can not discuss a persons religion (Liberalism not the real liberal thinking but the false narrative they are telling)))

    I love how you touched base on the intimidation portion and feeling like someone is trying to force it on you. I ended up shutting down this idiot scheduler for a doctor's office when they started incorporating questions for the patients (including me) by asking how we identify. I told them to take my friggin' info, I don't identify as anything. I'm who I am. Ask for name, date of birth, address and we get to look up appt date options. I filed a complaint with their office and told them unless they cut this sh*t out, I refuse to book future appts. The majority of us live in a real world, but if you want the people who live in a fantasyland to tell you how they identify, then you can plug their fantasy words into the database. They were trying to intimidate me by saying bullsh*t phrases, but I just wasn't having this woke sh*t thrown on me. After I filed my complaint, they blew up my phone, sent me tons of letters apologizing. I never went back, it just gave a bad taste in my mouth

Walking up to a stranger and talking to them was not done unless absolutely necessary, usually to ask for directions. Now people feel entitled to walk up to others and berate them. Not for doing anything illegal, but for doing something they don’t like. Where did this entitled attitude come from? And why do people comply or engage with these individuals?

It's their choice. All worship groups, bookwriters, and every fake minister KNOWS selling anything using the gospel is against the Bible and evil. Do you really comprehend that they are INTENTIONALLY LYING to people?
      Malachi 2 proves Malachi 3:8-12 is prophetic instruction for the thieving church leaders to repent and bring back the money they were never supposed to take and God will end Covid. Every single minister on television has known this since August of 2020 but they LOVE MONEY so much, they INTENTIONALLY CHOSE TO KILL everyone with Covid instead of bringing it back!

    Many good points. Murray said, "In the absence of religion..." That's it, exactly. The woke religion not only fills the void where God should be, but Christians are as Paul says, slaves of Christ. We don't receive our reward until we go to Heaven. And. it's not from anything we've done. It's because Jesus paid it all and did it all. Christ is the only one who is ever in the position of God, to receive praise, and to be raised up. But the woke priests and prophets say' "Look who I am and what I've done. I'm something special." Wokism is nothing without virtue signalling, putting others down and raising oneself up.

  • @mmille10
    @mmille10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree the in-group/out-group dynamic is one of the big things in it, "We're the 'good' group, and anyone who doesn't share our ideology is the 'bad' group. So, be in with the 'good' group." Also, the vision of achieving social justice on Earth sounds like a good thing, in the absence of critical examination. There is certainly the "cause of good against evil" in it that provides a sense of meaning and identity in one's life. Some older religions have had that same view of themselves.
    What's also a feature of it is a social hierarchy, that if you're someone who can claim historical oppression by consensus then you get more perks than someone who can't. That sounds good to a lot of people who aren't white. It has made me wonder why white people are going along with it, though, because they know this scheme sets them up to be at the bottom of the heap. They have no claim to being oppressed in this ideology. In fact, they are the oppressor, which is to be deferential in all things to the oppressed. It seems to be the result of demoralization among them, that they are either so ashamed of themselves for "what our ancestors have done" that being called a racist is the kiss of social death, or they're wealthy and can just mouth the right words that will get them off the hook so they don't lose their career and social status. Though, I've heard about wealthy white people who really believe in this stuff, and won't countenance anyone in their ranks who doesn't. I have trouble understanding what they get out of it, except perhaps a sense of revenge against, or creating a separate identity, from their racist parents (whether that's real or not).
    Murray's point that this is being used as a substitute for what was once the dominant cultural religion is a good one. People are trying to fill a "god" hole with something that I dare say doesn't do the job, which to my mind should be causing atheists that are of an evangelical persuasion for their own cause to question whether that's a good idea, because look what's sprung up in place of the faith they've been convincing people to throw away. It's just a new faith that makes no explicit claim about the existence of a new god. Nevertheless, it has an implicit god, equity, and an implicit devil, "whiteness," and it most certainly has ideas about sin, and condemnation. What's missing from it, if it ever sought to be a healthy faith, are principles of redemption and forgiveness.
    It has taken the archetype of the social activist and made it into a role of warrior priest, or evangelist, not for redemption, but damnation.

    While Douglas Murray is right that the woke ideology might be an answer to the main religios question of "What should we do with our life here?", it's strange that he (and most of us) has so outdated notion of religion as of something describing an afterlife. People always had religion to guide them, religion is about the connection of a person to the infinite world around him. As L. Tolstoy wrote in the essay named "Religion and morality":
    "A man without religion, that is, without any relation to the world, is just as impossible as a man without a heart. He may not know that he has a religion, how can a man not know that he has a heart; but just as without religion, so without a heart, a person cannot exist."
    and more background:
    "...every person, waking up to a rational consciousness, cannot fail to notice that everything around him lives, renewing, not being destroyed and steadily obeying one definite, eternal law, and that he alone, recognizing himself as a being separate from the whole world, is sentenced to death , to disappearance in boundless space and infinite time and to a painful consciousness of responsibility in his actions, i.e., the consciousness that, having acted badly, he could have done better. And, having understood this, every reasonable person cannot but think and ask himself: why is his instantaneous, indefinite and fluctuating existence among this eternal, firmly defined and infinite world? Entering into true human life, a person cannot avoid this question.
    This question always confronts every person, and every person always answers it in one way or another. The answer to this question is what constitutes the essence of any religion. The essence of any religion consists only in the answer to the question: why do I live and what is my attitude towards the infinite world around me?
    All the metaphysics of religion, all the teachings about deities, about the origin of the world, all external worship of God, which are usually taken for religion, are only signs that accompany religion, different in geographical, ethnographic and historical conditions. There is not a single religion, from the most exalted to the most crude, which would not have at its core this establishment of man's relation to the world around him or its root cause. There is not one of the crudest religious rites, as well as the most refined cult, which would not have the same basis..."

    Another language twist: justice is about Law (Jus in latin). Something just is something following the law. So injustice means something against the law. If you want to fight against social injustice go to a tribunal. Actually by social injustice, they mean social inequality. But using the word ‘injustice’ it sounds more moral.
    The problem with social (gender, ecology…) is that the only place we’re all equal is the cemetery. Death makes us equal. Life is about inequalities.

    The void of meaningless left by the lack of religion is one answer definitely.
    Another is self-worth. In cultures that have taught us to hate ourselves (just look at the billion dollar industries of diet, beauty, etc) we are desperate in part to feel good, but also to not feel bad. They are different.
    To not ‘feel bad’ we do a variety of things. A popular one is to escape (drugs, rpgs, shopping).
    Another is to not be/feel inferior, by making oneself superior. Morality has always been a fabulous weapon which is in part the draw of religion by some!
    We create an all-encompassing narrative that positions us above others (an ideology based on a hierarchy of right-wrong).
    Another explanation is good ol’ fashioned desire for power.
