I can never get enough reminders to come to creating music with a fun-loving, curious, beginners mindset. Always appreciate the attitude you bring to these videos Ricky 🙏🏼
I love the Monotron Delay! I recommend it to anyone who loves dirt and grit, this video showcases that well. My favorite is to run 'clean' digital synths through it, especially sometime like an FM synth that doesn't have a filter. It also makes a rad sound if you happen to be recording in the moment when the batteries run out!
I love this whole line of gear so much…I use my Monotribe + Monotron Delay for almost every track I make! Had no idea how much mileage I’d get out of em back then. Unbelievable value.
Thanks! Love you man. Our styles are so different but I appreciate your approach to music so much. Your reviews and gear breakdown have been a big help.
It's so good. The delay can become this infinite sound just buy turning up feedback and hitting the side of it. The noise and hiss will make it's own thing.
A favorite chill for me is to put some video with only speaking, through the delay and just fiddling with it. I set the speed to 75% for extra chill factor and its marvelous to knob around on.
Monotron delay is a pure joy! I love that it was designed with keeping user modifications in mind. My favourite mod is passing vcf through lfo, which gives another dimension to your sound (wobbling/tremolo effect).
With all the gear you have my friend Did not see this vid coming.. Just brilliant Was playing with vocals through mine only a few weeks ago Love the channel
Monotron Delay was one of my first 'pieces of gear' too, very dear to my heart. Can make incredible crunchy 4/floor kicks with a ribbon swipe, the filter and infinite delay. Sample that and your track's already got rhythm and thump.
Made a super tiny techno set-up (bit ranger , soft pop mkI , volca beat , monotron delay) using only its delay and filter , I loved how the delay was filling the blanks when the feed back was cranked up
The monotron was I think at the origin of the analog synths revival, after it came out more and more synth reissues were made It's my first analog synth :)
You're giving away all of my secrets! Great video man, what a fantastic little unit it is. I love pairing it with the Volca Keys for a seriously deep and powerful sounding battery powered setup. It is probably the best effect out there for the money.
I absolutely love using the first method (maximum feedback, play something, whack time knob to minimum and sharply back to maximum) to produce some absolutely gnarly kick sounds.
Ive recorded a huge swathe of percussion sounds through the Monotron filter - the overdrive tone is fantastic... Nothing sounds anything like the original tone, but man! It brings it every time 👍
these are also really easy to take apart and Korg was kind enough to give nice, big, labeled copper pads on the board for our circuit bending pleasure ;)
Absolutely love your videos. I have two of them. I love them. I use them on almost everything. Bought them when they first came out. bought one then bought another because I was like well, this is really cool I want another one. Thanks for the video.
Man, I love the monotron delay, honestly one of my favorite analog synths. It’s hard to beat analog osc + analog delay for like $40 (idk the price these days). I just wish it wasn’t so noisy; the signal to noise ratio is terrible. I wish they made a “pro” model or something, with better components. Anyhow… I always have such a good time playing with that synth. A must have for anyone who’s into synths.
I have one of these bad boys on my desk, I got it when i went to buy the pocket operator (after watching your vid!) and saw it was going for about £30 on offer, so grabbed it. Literally, the first thing you used it for is all I've been doing with it almost every day since I owned it. Work getting me down? Crunch out some feedback. Waiting for a respawn? Hit the feedback nob to full. Been on hold for the last 15 minutes? You get the picture. Love this device, though to me it's a toy, for someone who knows what they are doing with it can get some great sounds out of it - love the video man
I love the filter the most, honestly. It's based around the MS-10/20 circuit, and behaves almost identically. With absolutely zero mods though, the Monotron shines as an effects processor, with a bit of a built in dub siren 😁
Reminds me of my time messing with my monotron duo and the cutoff it has as well as the noise that I could kinda shape when a cable was plugged in the aux jack.
Moog CP3 style mixers have lovely saturation too. Smashing a bassline or drum loop through a Manhattan CP3 style VCA sounds great. Makes it big, bold and 3D.
me: "should I buy a monotron delay? they're only $35 bucks.." me: "i don't know... you already have so many music gadgets like this... maybe find a video about it to make sure you want it." * watches 2 minutes of this video * me, to me: "ok i need this. right now"
Still absolutely love mine, so much character from it, drives so easily. Last I used it was using the PO-12 pocket operator and smashing and echoing out those already smacks beats the PO can create.
I LOVE that you did this video! I really dig my Monotron Delay but to be honest...I have never actually run a full track through it, no idea why I never thought to do that lmao. 'Bout to have some fun tonight!
Thanks for taking so seriously such a funny and tiny device. I haven't used mine since forever but there's something that prevents me from selling it. I wish it was stereo but, it's in the name, mono 😅

Love this little thing. Bought it with the Monotron Duo at the time, paired it with synths/samplers, but I currently use it at the end of my guitar chain.
PT2399-based delay pedals also have a similar lofi crunch. But most modern delay pedals have moved to more modern chips, but there are still some builders making them, and there are several DIY pedal kits available based on this chip. The chip was originally for Karaoke machines, and it is somewhat obsolete but I think it sounds pretty cool.
hilarious! i started producing music with this same tool. funny part is i have been wracking my brain on where to find a filter for my live sets .....Zeus and thank you! you solved a possibly expensive issue for me
about time someone showed the people what this thing does. super slick and gritty! have had one of these for several years and am still coaxing surprises out of it pretty regularly. have been wondering though, if i were to attempt to upgrade from this is it rly something like the zen delay or nothing as far as features? Zen delay is 10x the price, and a pricetag i have only ever spent on a full audio workstation
no not really, it just is what it is (minus mods to what is in the circuit) the low pass filter is really interesting though because the time and feed back are reactive to the change in the filter as well as vice versa with the delay shifting the filter response. its really cool
This sounds dope! I love that tune you are playing. Is it yours? I could listen to this jam for ever..just this chords, beat and Montotron FX.. Please release this one 😃
Lol, love it, spend thousands getting the signal good and then run it through a £40 noise machine, same with guitarists, spend thousands only to run it through a £30 Pedal lol, keep them coming Ricky, can't beat using gear it wasn't really intended to do. : ) I use my NTS-1 for guitars and run a Korg KR mini into an SQ1 and watch the input beat glitch the sequence....
Have a Korg EMX and this kind of reminds me of a dirtier version of the tube distortion the electribe has. Though I'm always afraid to drive the tube gain too much in fear of wrecking my monitors
Paranoid London love their Monotron Delays

“Why not?” EXACTLY the thing that many are missing! Too hung up on the “right way” to do things. That stifles creativity! Go for it! 😎👍🏼

DOOODE thank you so much for this! Happy to help :)

That is such a good idea

How do you do that mod?
@@WarrenPostma I just soldered the "cutoff" captioned contact with one of three contacts (middle one) under the "lfo" captioned contact. Have fun)
With all the gear you have my friend
Did not see this vid coming..
Just brilliant
Was playing with vocals through mine only a few weeks ago
Love the channel
last time I saw Paranoid London live, they had a couple of these just for the crunch! Sounded so good!
I love running my PO-33 through the Monotron delay for the ultimate lofi house jams!
Good idea

I picked up one of these for $50 ages ago purely for this reason. Love it.
I've had so much fun with just a DFAM and a monotron delay. Such a blast!
I love this thing so much, especially putting synths through it and using the filter/delay
You're giving away all of my secrets! Great video man, what a fantastic little unit it is. I love pairing it with the Volca Keys for a seriously deep and powerful sounding battery powered setup. It is probably the best effect out there for the money.

Dear God. Your man camera's color balance, your lighting ... everything is SO awesome. May God bless you !!!
Not only do you make dope house tracks but the gear reviews are awesome.
I love this thing. I work in game audio and use it often for the crazy evil bass tones
Ive recorded a huge swathe of percussion sounds through the Monotron filter - the overdrive tone is fantastic... Nothing sounds anything like the original tone, but man!
It brings it every time 👍
Hey Ricky in the last 2 days I have rewatched this 3-4 times , just for that 1st pattern. That groove bro that’s some addictive sheet right there
Your one of the main inspirations that got me back into enjoying making music. Thank you for videos like this.
i love that little delay, i should dig it up and play with it, i also have the monosynth one but with cv gate breakout
I always, always use this on the Volca FM. It really elevates (and crunches) digital signals.
these are also really easy to take apart and Korg was kind enough to give nice, big, labeled copper pads on the board for our circuit bending pleasure ;)
Got my nephew one years ago. I still need to get one for myself.
Man I've always thought about doing this and never got around to it. Sounds like I should have! Great video.
Ricky this video is dope. Great job, love the simplicity, and the tune is a jammm!
Oh man I totally have one of those. Such a wild little beast. I used to rip noisy freakout solos with it at shows in a band I was in years ago.
I’ve had a monotron for over a decade, never considered using it this way.. time to blow the dust off er, thanks for the knowledge! 👊
Absolutely love your videos. I have two of them. I love them. I use them on almost everything. Bought them when they first came out.
bought one then bought another because I was like well, this is really cool I want another one. Thanks for the video.
Used to use this to get some analog warmth from my dawless mixes especially with that crunchy delay
I just received one and I’m putting this video through it 😊👍
Yes, sir! Monotron delay is a clever little lo-fi wonder, and doesn't cost buckets :)
I've never had any interest in those little korg doodads, but i didn't know you could do this. That sounds so sick

I love the 909ish hats going into the monotron delay for real dirty techno. I tried a bunch of other delays but they sounded too clean for my taste.
I bought one a few months ago and was looking for something cool to do with it. Great vid, thank you.
I have one of these bad boys on my desk, I got it when i went to buy the pocket operator (after watching your vid!) and saw it was going for about £30 on offer, so grabbed it. I use to have to create crazy texture but I return it because it was to noise. I might get it again. You are so creative man!
I love this little unit, but the noise does annoy me at times...
it's such a dope little thing, i never get tired of it
The monotron is such an underrated tool in my rig. I would argue it’s a must have fx unit for all synth enthusiast.
I love the filter the most, honestly. It's based around the MS-10/20 circuit, and behaves almost identically. With absolutely zero mods though, the Monotron shines as an effects processor, with a bit of a built in dub siren 😁

Nice! Korg's little NTS-1 with an amp sim patch loaded... oh my!
I love the amp sims on the Wavestate, and I'm pretty sure they're the same code. There always seems to be one that works with whatever sound I choose.
Love the monotron delay. It has such a great sound
I thought I my studio was about done. You have proven that now I need one of these :P
I definitely feel it man, this gives me empty mall / backroom kind of vibes 😂
haha!
Your vids are a constant source of inspiration
me: "should I buy a monotron delay? they're only $35 bucks.."
me: "i don't know... you already have so many music gadgets like this... maybe find a video about it to make sure you want it."
* watches 2 minutes of this video *
me, to me: "ok i need this. right now"
I take one everywhere I go. I love running drums and various cheap casios thru it
Still absolutely love mine, so much character from it, drives so easily. Last I used it was using the PO-12 pocket operator and smashing and echoing out those already smacks beats the PO can create.
that was a lotta fun. thanks, enrique!!
I LOVE that you did this video! I really dig my Monotron Delay but to be honest...I have never actually run a full track through it, no idea why I never thought to do that lmao. 'Bout to have some fun tonight!
I sometimes use it solely for the hiss it produces to use as texture. love this thing
Love it. The Stylophone Gen-X1 is great for the Same thing with a bit more features as well
Great result, good work!
Oh man, so dope!! What a cool use case. That grit is great!
Yo, Ricky the master of budget gear is back! - I've had one of these for an age, but digging it back out now...
Wow! I wanna get my Monotron out like right now and jam with it! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Just ordered this. Fire track by the way 💯
Just great 💫💫 could even use on vocals as some one said below but on a bus in parallel⬆️
This is awesome. I love to see creativity in music production
love the monotron best bang for buck

this is something legowelt explored ten years ago..
I really enjoyed this Video. Let's free our creativity. Doesn't matter what gear u are using for music creation. The main thing should be having fun.
My monotron delay gives me TONS of inspiration.
Did you see the recent electronic beat TV episode with paranoid London? Seems like you're both on to something...
I just got one of these things. I love it. It’s amazing.
I do this with my kp mini 2s on the ferry to pick up my daughter. Fun times with a small kit (digitakt or Circuit)
This thing is so fun. Plug a mic into it and play with feedback for added fun!
i so love this lil thing
Yeah. And then, Korg put that delay into the OG minilogue and the rest is history. ;)
Great video dude, thanks! And awesome music.
about time someone showed the people what this thing does. super slick and gritty! have had one of these for several years and am still coaxing surprises out of it pretty regularly.
have been wondering though, if i were to attempt to upgrade from this is it rly something like the zen delay or nothing as far as features?
Zen delay is 10x the price, and a pricetag i have only ever spent on a full audio workstation
Modded both Delay and Duo by adding Syntherjack mod, the machines became even more interesting and fun to use.
What does this mod do?
luvin the crunch,
Small synth, Huge sound!
Also I'm curious if you can hack the LP filter into multimode or a switch between LP and BP.
no not really, it just is what it is (minus mods to what is in the circuit) the low pass filter is really interesting though because the time and feed back are reactive to the change in the filter as well as vice versa with the delay shifting the filter response. its really cool
This sounds dope! I love that tune you are playing. Is it yours? I could listen to this jam for ever..just this chords, beat and Montotron FX.. Please release this one 😃
Gah daymn it sounds fire 🔥
The resonant filter in combination with the feedback is sometimes bad news😬
And it would be really sweet if you could only output the delayed signal.
With this vid came out before I sold mine! Had fun smashing up drum breaks with it though!

That lil thing is dope!
I was going buy one of these korg things think im might buy one now after seeing this
I love mine, it's bonkers but has an immediacy to it nothing else does.
They're great for running a guitar through.
awesome upload........................
We (the band I’m in Year Twins) used the monotron on our 1st album. It’s an emo album lol.
thx man, ill dig mine out of my bin and clamp it onto my behringer neutron - it will be waaaaaay more better than the internal delay :D
