    Great video! I immediately subscribed! But I have a question, if my amp has volume and gain knobs, which one should I use as your volume knob and what do I do with the other one? Thanks in advance!

    • @TastyGuitarcom
      @TastyGuitarcom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on the amp. For a clean tone like this most of the time I would use the master and turn it up to the edge of breakup and set the gain pretty low. But on some amps that may be too loud, depends on your venue. In that case you have 2 options 1, bring the master down to a volume appropriate for the stage, you may need to add a little more gain to give the tone a little bite, or 2. Keep the master up high to push the power tubes and get the great tone that goes with that... and tame the volume using an attenuator for an appropriate stage volume, this is what i do in those situations.

    Cool vid Rick. Gotta ask: why is your speaker backwards? Or does the Magnatone have the controls at the back?
    Also, it’s interesting to note the differences in your wrist movement compared to Corey Wong. His really is quite wild, while yours seems to move much less, with more movement in your forearm. Not a criticism at all, you both are outstanding, just noticed the difference in approach. Cheers!

    • @TastyGuitarcom
      @TastyGuitarcom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Controls at the back of the amp. There is no one correct way for right hand technique, I do what works for me, I haven't watched CW enough to give an opinion on his technique but it's obviously working for him.

  • @romain_ogam

    Hi Rick do you also backup on volume knob of your guitar, I find some frequencies very harsh especially on ES style guitar for funk playing. I usually set the volume around 8. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that

    • @TastyGuitarcom
      @TastyGuitarcom  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I will usually set the full volume to a slight breakup on the amp, so I can back off the volume knob a bit and clean it up. But I have a treble bleed installed so I dont lose high end when rolled back

    I'm new to an electric guitar and all these effects, how do I make it sound this funky, because I can make it sound only distorted or clean

    • @TastyGuitarcom
      @TastyGuitarcom  ปีที่แล้ว

      It helps to have a good quality tube amp and push it to the edge of breakup(slight distortion) and have plenty of mid-range in the tone, that helps achieve this kind of tone.

  • @lancelotlink6545
    @lancelotlink6545 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why a cab simulator? I thought you wanted your sound straight from the amp? Not being a jerk. Really asking? I don't use computers or simulations. How would I do this with just amp and pedals?

    • @TastyGuitarcom
      @TastyGuitarcom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I live in a condo and can't be blasting out the neighbors, that's the only reason to use the cab sim

    • @johnhareiel5118
      @johnhareiel5118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TastyGuitarcom I saw that.....but what does a cab Sim do? Does it give you the same sound of a cranked cab but at a lower volume. I'm wanting to learn how to really play now instead of just bashing power chords and getting into pedals, sound, tone etc. Still learning. Is a cab simulator kind of like an attenuator?

    • @TastyGuitarcom
      @TastyGuitarcom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnhareiel5118 this is the model here and will tell you all the things you can do with it www.two-notes.com/en/torpedo-series/torpedo-captor-x/ I'm using it as a load box so I can get my cranked up amp sound but stay completely silent in the room. You could also use it as an attenuator where you still use the speaker in the amp but just have lower volume settings, but that is not how I am using it here. I'm plugged straight into the amp, the amp is pushed to where I like the tone, but the speaker out from the amp goes into the Torpedo, then the output can be sent to a mixer or headphones. Great for getting a nice tube amp tone completely silent. Because most tubes amps need to be pushed to a get the best tone, thats the point.

    • @johnhareiel5118
      @johnhareiel5118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TastyGuitarcom o.k. I played my whole life but just now getting into pedals- sound instead of just guitar to amp. I was wondering with you saying you just wanted straight tone with no pedals and I'm like but he's using a cab simulator. Making sense now. Thanx. I'm gonna check out your other vids too

    • @johnhareiel5118
      @johnhareiel5118 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I asked my luthier buddy if I should get an attenuator for my new Fender Twim and he told me I can't hook one up to it being built different than a Marshall, etc. He's got one on his 100 watt tube Orange amp. I'm learning amps as well finally or trying to lol. I plan on getting a Marshall JCM 800 2203 one day too and will get an attenuator for it

    You want funk tone? Lose the effects. Let the guitar and your technique come through. Of course, that’s the easy part. Then ya gotta bring it like Rick.
