The horse is definitely part of a children’s toy. It would’ve gone on a buggy. The hole in the side of the horse is where it would hook onto the trace or the poles that stick out from the buggy

I see a common thread in us "treasure hunters" ...the order is the only thing that varies. I started out hunting "arrowheads" ...then bottle digging...and finally metal detecting. Whichever we may have started with first...we eventually seem to touch on them all. Thanks for taking us along on the adventure once again Brad.

I agree. They seem to all be in a category of their own. For me, I always have thought of them as being lumped together. If you did one you did them all. Arrow head hunting for me, I think of it as artifact hunting. You almost always end up finding something else from the same period as many of the arrow heads we find. I found a black onyx spear head on one of my outtings and it is gorgeous. What a work of art it is. I imagine the owner wasn't to happy about loosing that one. That is if he hadn't been killed by man or beast.

In the 50 years I have been bottle digging, I have dug up at least 2 dozen of Dr. Kilmer's Swamp Root bottles, but never in all of that time, have I ever come across a sample bottle like the one you found. Sample bottles in general are rare, especially in a cylindrical shape! Congratulations what a find!!

    " Olden days"?
I learned to iron as a young lad, using one of those flat irons. All heating, cooking, and hot water was supplied by wood fires. We ironed in the kitchen next to the stove/ oven. There was a large fountain/ kettle, which kept water hot, and almost always something cooking in the oven. I don't remember an iron holder, as we put the irons back on top of the stove to reheat, but we probably had one. I still have a couple, plus ones you filled with hot coals.

Thank you! I really enjoy digging with Brad. It's unbelievable the things we've found in that small dump site. On a side note I used to work at a college in town until they closed 4 years ago as the controller. I managed the financial part of the grants for a biology professor that I became good friends with that is doing a multi year study on ticks and lyme disease, about 10 years so far. He has used my 13 acres as one of his collection sites since he started. The last time he reported to me about 25% of the ticks he has found on my property have lyme disease, a little less than some of his other sites around the county. I always check for ticks after but it was more of an issue when I was making maple syrup in the spring, not so much at this time of year or in the summer.

Really cool finds Brad, I used to go bottle hunting with my brothers. All the old places are gone now, we once dug in our Grandmother's back yard and found an old car from the late 1930s, it was all there too. She made us cover it back up because she didn't want some old junk messing up her lawn. Hope you go back soon, it looks like you hit the jack pot.👍❤️🇺🇸

Dumps like that (with a high density per square meter) will have to be big. Because they'd dump stuff in one area, then move to the next convenient spot so they don't have to move the cart or wheelbarrow too oddly, so the next spot gets packed and they slowly pocket the whole area. Stuff that gets decomposed gets decomposed add some vegetation and you're back to today. For example, my family has owned the same piece of land for nearly 8 generations. Our old house is in the hundreds. The dump area we've slowly dug up is massive in scope, from each generation either overlapping or getting to a new spot or doing both. It all boils down to one thing, if you have a dump on your land. You don't want to see it, so the concept of modern junkyards where things measure in the mountains and you see those big Caterpillar D10s move things to flatten or crush things... that doesn't apply here. So they did it in a fashion that allowed things to become overcome over time, muted, hidden by bushes then vegetation. The detritus from food stuffs alone would've been a good incentive for weeds and other things to grow over the area. So depending on how old the group that owned that place is, how long they did it for... it could easily be 10 m across even more. I'd dig test pits if i were you, it's probably big given the sheer density of this video alone.

You can use a plastic bristle (preferably with long bristles) to clean bottles easily and effectively. The brushes used for carpet cleaning are great as they're not too hard to break an already broken bottle (if you use sodium silicate you can fix chips and cracks - you put vacuum on the bottle, and pour sodium silicate on the cracks) but they're firm enough to dislodge any stubborn patch of dirt from features.
