    I thought this was a great idea until I realized the coal wasn’t touching the inner ceramic surfaces meaning that it will generate less surrounding heat. Also it’s literally impossible to make a burn off with the ash basket inside because the ceramic doesn’t get hot enough. Also, it prevents the ceramic for keeping clean as more meat drippings and fat stick to it. Taking the iron grate out is a mistake as it’s a far better heat generator. Notice how the upper ceramic ring is totally black meaning it gets no heat. In sum, great idea but doesn’t work well in practice. Mine is up for sale

    I have a BGE large I do use mostly for long slow cooks with pork butts and brisket. I use the CyberQ DX2 from the BBQ GURU, it's a controller which allows me to get 16 to 20 hours of cook time at 225 degrees. I am curious about these Kick Ash baskets for better airflow around the lump charcoal.
    Tip for cleaning. I fill my BGE up to the bottom of the top ring, that's about 13 or 14 pounds of the lump. After each time I cook I open the vents and let it burn off. That way there's only ash left to cleanout. If I need a hot fire I use my Weber Kettle.

    This was such a great idea. I wish I had thought of this 12 years ago when I purchased my first Green Egg.

    That is definitely needed in the egg design. If I had a BGE, I would have this basket for sure. Nice review.

      This basket is soooo handy and it actually makes the whole process of using the EGG a lot more enjoyable.

      Well guess what. I just now got a SNS Kamado, and also picked up a KAB. This basket is a must. Haven't even done a video yet, but Stay Tuned. Your review was very helpful. Still going.

    Nice review. This is high on my must have list. Question: Did you leave the plate in the bottom or remove it? It seems like you should remove it and just use the basket.

      Yes I did remove it and only the basket is being used to create a lot more air flow. Works awesome

    Great product, I love my KAB. Do you still have/use your Akron?

    • @SmokinSteve
      @SmokinSteve  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do still have the Akorn, but am currently using the EGG. They are very much alike .... One being metal and the other ceramic, other than that they operate about the same. Same damper control, same outstanding food. If you can regulate the temp on one you can do any of them. It's all good ... Smoke On!

    Just got the basket and the ash can. Outstanding ,much better airflow and easy to clean. My BGE is on a small back door porch and when you clean you track in charcoal spooge.This is worth every penny and you come to temp and hold a temp easy with good FoGo charcoal great and even ventilation and dump said basket in bucket .Easy to keep the area clean . I think you save charcoal , but im no genius just a thought ..

    I bought one today. During slow n low cooks like brisket would you be better replacing the stone to help keep that fire low?

    • @SmokinSteve
      @SmokinSteve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not real sure of your question. The way to control your temperatures is by adjusting your dampers, both top and bottom. I would go ahead and fill the basket up with lump charcoal for long cooks, but just a few of the coals have to be lit to get smoking temps ... 225°-250°. The Stone or heat deflector needs to be in place to prevent direct heat on your food when doing low & slow. Hope this helps

      SmokinSteve what I was referencing was the increased air intake from the basket.
      I recently purchased a kickash basket, I find I can get my temps up hotter than before, but I’m also finding I can’t hardly run my green egg(large) below 250 now.
      Have you noticed this at all?

    • @SmokinSteve
      @SmokinSteve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t had any problems at all regulating temps. It’s all in damper control. They may be opened just a tad to keep it at 250°, you don’t need much air to keep them at low and slow. If you’re getting too hot, there is too much air so the damper would need to be closed more. Hope this helps

      I don't have a Big Joe or Big Green Egg, but if I did I would get one of these. I can see how it is very useful.

      I agree .... it’s not hard at all to see the benefits from having the Kick Ash Basket. It will make setting up for cooks so much easier and quicker. Lovin’ it!

    Funny how now the Kamado joe Classic 3 comes with a basket exactly like this. Eventually they all will.
