I say this a lot, but it's truly amazing to me that I can watch matches like this any time I want in 2022. Thank you, technology. No more digging through DVD piles.
This era of RoH was absolutely amazing, and all these guys would go on to solidify their legacies as legends. Samoa Joe here, with this build, and his skills; just a beast and GOAT contender. Nothing needs to be said about Dragon ofc.
Such an amazing match. Great commentary too, helping to provide context even 13 years after the fact. My main takeaway though is the reminder of how people in the crowd actually cared about the wrestlers here. In the early parts you can hear individual people here and there shout out a quick "come on, Bryan!" or "beat him up, Joe", because they're actually invested in them and have a favourite; they care about who wins and loses. Where as nowadays with most crowds they'd either be dead silent sitting on their hands during those early exchanges, clap to try and get them to quicken up the pace and do "cool spotz", or just start doing chants to entertain themselves. Speaks to a lack of investment in who wins or loses in my eyes, and just wanting "oooh and aaaah moments". Don't know if the wrestlers or the crowds are to blame, though; perhaps both? Of course you still have Japanese fans rooting for their favourite wrestlers by shouting out their names, and screaming out "ganbatte!" when the babyface is taking a beating, but the last time I can remember seeing an American crowd act like that was during the match to crown the first Chikara Grand Champion between Quackenbush & Kingston. I especially remember the lady shouting "we believe in you, Kingston!"; that's some real emotional investment right there. But that was several years ago now, and I feel like all I hear is chanting and singing nowadays, which makes we wonder why people aren't as invested in seeing their guy or gal win anymore. And it's weird because it feels like on the indie level especially people care about the wrestlers outside of the ring more than ever, yet it doesn't seem to translate to inside the ring like it used to (and it's not like we didn't know it was fake back in 2004).
CrossfacePanda the current crowd in WWE is filled with old people(no hate) and little Kids with their moms. So we can't expect them to be like ROH crowd. If you see nxt, then you'll clearly see the difference. The crowds in nxt (and small promotions) are filled with young energetic men.
Jason Hepler Honestly now I like this match more than Joe vs Punk II, but I still like Joe vs Punk III more than this match and it's my favorite Samoa Joe match.
Alot of people in the comments worrying about where the match took place, but it doesn't matter. They could wrestle in a field, and it would still be a classic.
I figured you would enjoy the match because this ended up being one of the last matches that Danielson and Joe would have before Joe would resign with TNA, which would happen in 08 so it was a good match for them since Danielson was one of thier best workers and still is till this day now being signed with AEW, anyways.
It can be depending on the storylines that are being told, which is mostly why the match you're seeing got over because of the chemistry that they had at the time that got some anticipation from it, anyways.
Ya just push min to the main event almost immediately on the main roster and even after countless injuries keep him on the job and become one of the best announcers today easily
The fact that WWE didn’t sign Samoa Joe in 2003 to 2007 is a damn shame. Atleast he’s their now, but he isn’t nearly as healthy. Hopefully he wins a world title before he’s done :/
Definitely one of their best matches since they would eventually build that storyline towards WWE, which is the last time they would have another match and storyline against each other because of it, anyways.
Anyone beside me curious how that ring is made? It's so bouncy it's a borderline trampoline. Not that I blame them because ROH is the original flippy, high fly promotion so their ring has to be as flexible as possible, but not it has me wondering how they make it.
Don't know but who knows, I never heard Steve Corino mention about it or either heard Cornette talk about it if they did then, you would have to probably listen to those interviews or podcasts anyways because of it in the process.
You mean better off being 40-ish years old, with a history of injuries, no health coverage, wrestling a much more dangerous style for very little money?
Charles Clark get of the video then if the match sucked and so what if joe is fat at least he can be athletic and put on a great match your ass probably fat too

Bryan Danielson one of the best wrestlers ever step in a ring .
Silent Sycho I don't mean the character buddy
Silent Sycho You are probably a hater of him but ok
King of Kings I never liked him or his gimmicks but he's without a doubt one of the best technical wrestlers in history.
SP Brazy Even then, he was/is/always be one of the hottest babyfaces ever.
Phenomenal One I hope too if he can't wrestle anymore for the wwe I hope he returns to Roh to start a feud against Cody

@@amartyasau4175 you bring a good point. NXT crowds are good and very similar to that of ROH fans most are energetic.
again the commentary in this helped tell the story Joe and Bryan told in the match from start to finish.
One of the greatest matches of all time, my 2nd favorite match of Joe's legendary title reign. Also Bryan Danielson is the greatest.
Am I correct in assuming the top 2 are his draws with Punk?
Jason Hepler Honestly now I like this match more than Joe vs Punk II, but I still like Joe vs Punk III more than this match and it's my favorite Samoa Joe match.
Chase Redd this match was boring
Chase Redd Bryan danielson is overrated
Ciaran McIntyre Shut the Fuck up
Two of the very best in ROH.
ROH: Midnight Express Reunion - October 2nd, 2004 - National Guard Armory - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
14 years later...these two would meet again in WWE Smackdown
And as expected, it sucked.
@@FaysalIsGoated Nah it was good for what it was, but it left a lot to be desired unfortunately.
Make that AEW
@@alfiegoldspink7003 Joe may go back to Impact or ROH
And they are now in AEW

Thanks 4 the info man by the way awesome match
Samoa Joe vs Bryan danielson
Whose watching this match after the announcement next week that these two will square off next week on SmackDown, because I am. I can't wait 😁
Back in the day ring of honor had the best talent
These two had one of the greatest matches I've ever seen back in 06, I believe. It went an hour and it kicked about 10 types of ass.
Very cool that these guys are going at it again in 2018.
What a match!
It’s 2023🎉 I love it

Bryan Danielson is the greatest ever.
The good old days when wrestling was real dame it 🤼♂️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I would love to hear ROH chants on the next Smackdown when these guys meet again!!
I'm still hoping to see them meet in AEW!
One of the best matches Joe and Bryan ever had.
To think both are at wwe now well just Joe and BD is at AEW
@@brownhag yeah indeed. a long journey for both of them... though I wonder if Joe could make it to AEW perhaps despite he's in NXT.
I guess this is before we knew them in WWE and back before we all love Daniel Bryan
Good wrestling is timeless! 👏 👏 👏 👏

Good Much ! I Was Feeling It 💯👨⚖💪
Wwe what have you done with Samoa Joe??
Samoa Joe is kinda old now tbh and might be one of the best to call the mic since Tazz and J.R. so idk huhu
RoSs haha what
TNA already took care of it by keeping him on sideline for so long. Wish he had more years in ROH/Japan during those times

Todd Sinclair with that quickest count in the business.

Because he was with TNA
Mitchell Sommer well yeah. He can still get signed after his contract ends.
@@aaronm8143 Why would he want to sign there? At that time Vince was giving anyone that is remotely good to Cena.
Who is the play by play commentator?
Rematch on Smackdown next week !
This great here look back at Daniel Bryan and Joe match here in this wrestling company... 🤘🤘💪💪💪👍👍
This match will finally happen again next week on Smackdown!

Great match
What a match
Classic ROH is the best non japanese promotion of all times
Bryan paying tribute to the "Best wrestler in the worlllllllllld", Shane McMahon. 12:08

Who is on commentary with Gabe?
King Sizzle! I think it may be Les Thatcher.
Two hall of famers !!
That was awesome
Run this back in AEW!
One of the best matches that Bryan and Joe have ever had.
5 star world title match
BD wrestles like the ghost of Dean Malenko
Is that Jimmy Jacobs on commentary?
Samoa Joe is machine and Wested by WWE .He would be a top superstars right now anywhere in the world not in wwe
Let's see how he works out in Tony Khan's AEW/ROH
I can't be the only person who is extremely annoyed by the commentator. But love this thank you
It’s kind weird to see Danielson without his hair

This ref sucks. I get that he's not gonna do a slow dramatic count in ROH but that was still wayyy too fast
Set up a WWE match between these two☺
And... done! 5/29 on SmackDown.
