Actually, what makes a good song? Some reactors were disappointed that there wasn't a lot of musically interesting stuff in these songs (though I beg to differ) and that similar stuff had been done before. Not trying to refute them because we all have different preferences and experiences when it comes to music.
But listen carefully to their melody. Day6 songs have amazing melodies. More importantly, they always gel with the lyrics. That is what pulls me into their music, all the time. Melody + lyrics + music arrangement + delivery of the songs. They do it so well! For example, their newest release 'Hi Hello' has simple chords and progression and nothing groundbreaking musically. But that is when the ingenuity of their melody writing stands out. And I LOVEEEE it. I listen to music to enjoy them and maybe feel some emotions, not to analyze them. Again, I know the purpose of this reaction series. So I understand why you guys won't react to 'Hi Hello'.
Can I also say I am always amazed by how Day6 songs throw me off guard. How a sad song can be super major or have lots of percussion. You were beautiful is not a very slow song for a very sad one. And if you only listen to it without the singing, you might even think it's a happy song! But with the melody and delivery, it sounds super sad. And oh, I love their subject matter. So refreshing. When it comes to that though, my favorite is How Can I Say. Cannot wait to watch the reaction to that one! Thanks guys for the hard work!

You just simply speak out all of the thing inside my brain OMG. Actually, I'm not really into Day6 at the start. I don't know i just feel like something is missing. But somehow i read the lyric, understand the meaning of the song and now i become their fan. You're so right they totally stick to the lyric. After reading the lyric, everything is make sense, i can see now how the melody like that, totally fit to the lyric. I also like how they pay attention into detail. Ex: I Smile is a sad song about meeting your ex when you still not move on but you still have to smile to him/her, and you can see they kinda force it when sing the "i smile" part. Also at Letting Go, Jae's part at first at the "hana mana" somehow his voice sounds like holding tears.
Kei Yoo bc they have studied music a lot songs may sound boring which is sad. But to people who have untrained ears the music just sounds nice, personality I think “simple”and “repetitive” songs are good at times

Comparing this to their latest day6 reactions, I can't believe how their reactions against Dowoon's drums changed. At this point, they were underwhelmed by the drums, but at the new reaction, they are amazed. Thank you for pointing out Dowoon's improvement.

i’ve listened to Day6 for a while now and i’ve been trying to figure out why Day6 is so different than most kpop groups. When i first heard them was from Congratulations and it gave off a very american vibe to me and i’m wondering is it just because they used band instruments? (i don’t know much about the analytical part of music so i don’t know how to describe it) I love their music because it is unique to most kpop groups but also very typical pop rock in american music to me. Please help me describe this better anybody who knows music.

It's really refreshing to hear all the reactors have so many different opinions. Also, it kind of comforts me as a 'layman' listener, because it proves me that my tastes are valid as long as I can defend them with good arguments, which are provided profusely on this youtube channel. I've always loved music but I can really feel how my ear has changed now that I pay more attention to all the things the reactors often point out. I find it so interesting how emotional your vocal students reaction was to these two songs. For musicians playing instruments, lyrics and the emotion they carry is something secondary to the notes, chords and beats going on. On the other hand, a vocalist is tasked with projecting all that emotion on paper to reality. Most musicians play an instrument....when your a vocalist, you are the instrument.....While watching this, I wanted to cry with them.
Thank you for sharing this video! I personally like day6 and I do respect all those musicians! It was interesting to hear their thoughts about day6's songs :)

In any case, I though it would be interesting if when showing them the Overcome lyrics version you mentioned that 마하켄다프펠도문” (Mahaken Da Pepeldomoon) comes from Arabian language and means “Forget the pain and sorrow”. Good chords are basically any chord that isn't a triad. So any hoed with more than 3 notes. 7th, 9th, 11th....best chords. Usually used in jazz, so when they're used in pop music? 10/10
