A great video addressing the topic of logo creation according to me. As a bookstagrammer I've been wanting to get my own website created on Canva, so was just searching to get started on designing a logo, definitely helpful video... The best tips I've found is that of resizing the logo, saving it in SVG format for best quality of logo and having multiple variations of the logo.
Great piece of insight, I was planning to launch a new website on the back of an element gathered from Canva for a logo. Was shocked to see how many other companies are using it. I will now tweak to make it unique to me.
Thanks for the helpful video. With the circle logo, how do you create other versions? Earlier in the video, you mentioned that a long and tall version is also needed.
I was wondering about Canva logo, that you and someone else may use the same template. I did use one and saved it as a PNG, Cricut Design Space told me that the resolution (wasn’t exactly the word they used) was not great, I didn’t understand how they can say that when I used a Canva template, however, it printed horrible and I was still baffled until I came across your video. Thank you so very much!
Such a pleasure! I share more of this in my course but using Canva itself can be useful (the line tool has improved a lot since recording!), or another personal favourite of mine is literally using a pen and paper and vectorsing the drawing. Or if you want to get a little more intricate using professional programs like Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer can be great! But also not being afraid to hire and illustrator to help you create parts that you meed too.
Unfortunately yes, something specific like a microphone will be someone else’s. You CAN use it.. just means it’s not unique to you and can’t be copyrighted/trademarked in the future
Can you pull elements and use different parts of two diff elements for it to be copywrited? E.g two different birds and you pull wings from one and a beak from another ?
Good question!! Maybe. I usually recommend from scratch/basic shapes so it’s 100% your IP. What you’re saying may be okay. But definitely don’t take this as legal advice 😅
it was difficult because I didn't have a fancy tablet to draw this. Just my finger my lap top and mouse lol but I used the drawing tool to create mine. I mention this because for what it looks like now, you wouldn't have guessed it was drawn because the lines were so wobbly looking lol
Are we going to 'blank' create design for logo? Orrrr? Whiteboard? How do we know its vector? No practical steps here. Unless I missed a first prelude video
From Canva website: What kinds of products am I allowed to sell? Canva’s Content License Agreement does allow you to use both Canva Free and Pro Content to design and sell a range of products (see section 5 of the Content License Agreement) such as: e-books and magazines; templates; posters, mugs, t-shirts, stickers, and other printed products. Canva’s Content License Agreement does not allow you to use Free or Pro Content to design and sell your own stock content (for example, clipart files). If you want to sell stock content, you need to create your own designs from scratch.
When I teach my students this I focus on helping them create their own unique icon using canva shapes, draw tool or even sketching their own and uploading :)
Hi! If I save as an SVG file, and airdrop the image to my phone, I am not able to save the image out of the files app, I think bc iphone doesn't support that file type. Is there a way around this while still keeping the image crisp? If I save as png its not as HD. I want to use the logo for an instagram profile pic
You don't need to export it as SVG. SVG I great for inside Canva or for other needs (ie. some printing, web, etc). But for an IG profile pic I'd just make a 2000px square design (or anything larger than 800px) in Canva, arrange my logo there (perhaps with a nice colour in the background), then just export as a PNG and send to phone. No need to have SVG for that :)
You can use fonts in your logo (doesn't matter what program you use, Canva or otherwise), but I recommend not JUST having plain text as your logo. Either customise the font or add in an icon :)
@ that’s good to know. Just to make sure I have the right, So what you’re saying is PNG you can’t scale up or down if I save it to any other devices, but you can with SVG cheers for that 👍👍👍
When resizing the logo to the A4 size, you can’t upload the logo because of the file size exceeds the capacity of Canva 😢. Which would be the correct size so I can use it in my designs as well? Thank you!
I’ve never had an issue with A4 size. Is your logo quite detailed? Or what file type are you saving it as? If you have canva pro I’d recommend saving as a transparent SVG. if you do that it doesn’t matter what size the design is.
Are you asking if you can use Canva elements in your logo? Technically you can however it’s never going to be uniquely yours, able to claim full copyright yourself or trademark it.
I tried to upload my SVG file to Instagram, but looks like they only allow jpg and png. So I uploaded a png, but it's blurry when I zoom in. Do you have this problem too?
Yes, save SVGs for inside canva use then export as png or jpg for social media. Blurry images are usually caused if the canva file is too small (although zooming in isn’t a common thing people do on Instagram). Try making your canva design at least 1080px wide
What I really need to know is how to make eight different design elements in my logo One Design element so that I can add it to a business letter without the logo becoming the design that I'm trying to put the logo on so I can try to get my business off the ground. I hope that makes sense. Every time I tried to add my logo to the top of a business letter the logo becomes the business letter like it becomes the entire it completely replaces my design and I don't understand why this is happening. I am not a graphic designer I just have a canva pro account and I am using Canva AI to make designs.
Why have these logos in elements, like palm trees, ribbons, animals etc if you can’t use them. I’m in the middle of making my logos for T shirts and I’ve been using them plus what I see on the internet to compile my different logos. Love the video, it was an eye opener 👍👍👍
@@jacquinaunton that’s ok. As long as they sell, that’s the main thing. A lot of my characters are like Frankenstein’s. They’re made up of bits and pieces. So I should imagine they’re unique to me. Not everyone is a good artist.

Gave me new ideas on how to use my logo 👍👍👍 My logo predates Canva (made the original in 2007, put the hat on in 2013) 😉 I made it in a vector program (Xara) that my sister owned and used for her clients. Because in that time faxes were still being sent, I even have a version without colour. While watching your video, I realised that it in no way 'follows' your design rules 🤭 But I still love it - it literally made me money and it's very recognisable in a weird way: people refer to it as "that purple elephant". That's mainly, but not exclusively, because of the companyname that goes with the original one: (translated) The Purple Elephant. Funny how the mind works. 😁 Long story short: I'm aware of the limitations of my logo. But for me the pros still outway the cons big time ❤
Sorry to hear that! That’s the trouble with an online program - it really does only work well if your internet connection is really stable. I always find it hard to use on road trips and out on trips because of this too
I'm in desperate need of logo and branding for a jewelry business. I stay awake at night with stress. I thought Canva would work, I can't pay $1000. any advice?

It really depends on how you want your jewelry biz to be perceived - if you you don't mind starting off with a more amateur look, or you want to hit the ground running with a strong professional brand
